Scrubs Finale

Not a bad episode, but not really a great one, either. I think I actually liked the penultimate episode better, but I like finding out that Janitor’s name is Glenn Matthews (or maybe Tommy) and that Hooch really *is *crazy. Also, I have to admit his final fantasy made me smile broadly, and like that Bill Lawrence had the next to last line of the series in a cameo as a janitor.

I’m still kinda hoping for an *Interns *spin-off.

I liked it.

I loved the walk down the line of people from the past. Was that nurse Flowers who said, “I really hate you!”

Goodbye, Scrubs…unless you come back next year.

No, that was Lonnie, an intern from the fifth season. I didn’t see Nurse Flowers.

I agree with the really good but not great.

I LOVED the fantasy thing at the end, a great way of saying “this is what everyone wants, but not really a schmalzy way of doing it.” (Was that J.D.'s son and Turks daughter getting married??)

I am bad with names, but I love that the big black woman who died had a line…technology is beautiful sometimes.

Last but not least…because I am a huge sucker for tear-jerkey goodbyes and stuff…and because this is how these things affect me…I was fine for all of the episode…

Then it was Cox’s turn…
The speech…

Then finally…

“He was my friend” Good Lord that did it.

(I’m such a girl…)

Laverne.

I didn’t see the finale (I’m only an occasional watcher of the show), but I’m curious – why would they need technology for this? I mean, the actress didn’t die, did she?

Nope. She played Shirley in the more recent episodes.

She only died on the show.

I thought she did…which is why I wrote it like that…although I could be wrong

No, she didn’t die in real life.

That may be the first time I’ve seen a blooper dubbed in post. The janitor says M Night Shamaylan “made a monkey face,” but his lips say “made a move on me.” Silly Disney. It made me wonder if Bill Lawrence saying “season wrap” on each of the actors was a dub too; seems the phrase “series finale” is verboten with regard to Scrubs on ABC.

I enjoyed the finale, and the closing montage was great not because of the schmaltzy content, but because JD being lost in the fantasy rings true to his character. Back in the early days of the show, JD would actually react to his fantasies (rather than just cocking his head and looking at the ceiling), and his smiling/laughing as the light played across his face reminded me of that.

I enjoyed it. Very sweet in many places. I think it would be better if they leave it there. Sometimes enough is enough.
The woman who played Nurse Lavern Roberts has not passed.

I read (on the Internet, so it must be true) that they thought they were on the last season and the actor wanted to move on to other things so Bill Lawrence wrote her out with the death. When the show was picked up for the next season, he wrote her back in as a new character.

I had read that she was coming back as her twin sister (with alcohol issues or something), but I don’t recall that we ever saw that. I have missed many episodes though.

She was in a couple of episodes as Laverne’s sister, Shirley.

It was a pleasant goodbye, and we know the characters have very good lives set up. Turk is chief of surgery, Kelso is going back into medicine, JD is now head of residents. Eliot may or may not give up being a doctor.

I took JD’s fantasy that Sam (his son) and Izzy (Turk’s daughter) eventually get married.

Was that Sam, or JD and Elliot’s child, though? I’d guess the former, but it’d make sense that the core group of four are now a truly extended family.

In either case, I loved JD fainting and Turk fanning his face in joy.

I think Sam is closer in age to Izzy than Eliot’s/JD’s child would be…I think he’s about nine months younger.

I thought it was about as good of ending as one could hope for.

Probably one of my top-5 all time favorite sitcom series.

AV Club interviwed Bill Lawrence:

read it here

Not groundbreaking or anything…but interesting

Aloma Wright isn’t dead according to the IMDB. I did wonder what happened to the plan to bring her back as her angry anti-religious twin sister. Ah well.

Anyways, a little sappy, but after 8 years of barely surviving over and over, they deserved it.

I only caught the last few monutes of the show myself. I’ve missed most of this season unfortunately and I hope I can catch up on it.

One of the things I love about ABC is that they broadcast full episodes on their web site. In fact, they get much more of my viewing business than they normally would otherwise because of this.

In the closed captioning, they did say “series wrap”. You’d think that they’d be consistent.

I liked the episode, especially the dream sequence and the Cox speech. I wish that Cox could have given him a hug after that but I’m not surprised that he didn’t.
