Scrubs Season finale (series finale?) tonight!

Didn’t work for me. Kelso quitting would have been a better episode to end, though I did like the downer-close.

I thought it was the first good episode in a while. Not brilliant, but creative, lighthearted and touching. The show has been losing steam for me, but this was a nice return to form.

I admit I missed the first ten minutes (why can’t they just air it at the same time every week?) but as a potential last episode, it sucked.
I take it they never explained why Kelso was back? I didn’t understand that, but then again, I did miss the first third.

It stunk out loud

The appearance of Kelso was a big WTF & the jokes were either nonexistant or else so unfunny I missed them. The whole thing just plodded along.

As an episode, it would have been disappointing. As a finale, it seriously sucked. They should have ended it with the Kelso departure episode which would have tied it up in a great way.

Speaking of continuity why was nurse Roberts back I thought she died last season…

Oh, and I don’t know if this was just in the Chicago area or even just in my own family room but the High Def broadcast (via Direct TV) was synched poorly between the video and audio. People’s mouths didn’t fit their words. I flipped to the standard broadcast and it was fine.

Obviously this isn’t the show’s fault but I wondered if anyone else noticed.

She only appeared in the fairy tale…I’m guessing it was just a nod to the viewers.

I noticed Zach Braff directed this ep. Has he directed in the past?

I know a lot of people could care less, but the JD/Elliot thing is a huge loose end and they’d better wrap it up one way or another before the show ends.

No, there’s a new nurse Roberts - her twin sister Shirley (as in Laverne and…). At least they got that right - I have no explanation for the Kelso thing.

It’s got to have been shown out of order or something. Nothing else makes sense.

Someone tell me, since I missed the Kelso farewell…was it too depressing or something? Maybe they reordered so they could end on a happy/goofy episode rather than a downer?

-Joe

Not depressing at all. Since it’s already spoiled that he leaves, what happens is that the staff get together to argue Kelso’s case before the Board. While they’re getting together, Kelso is outside on a bench facing Sacred Heart, basically holding some new intern hostage with long stories about things Kelso has seen in his days there. Kelso’s lament is that he knew he was getting old but he would have liked to leave on his own terms.

The staff convinces the Board to keep Kelso. They inform him and Kelso tells the Board head “I quit” and says that he only wanted to leave on his own terms. With a big ole smile, Kelso takes the big oil painting of himself from the hospital wall, loads it into his car and drives off.

I liked it as an ending because it basically said that there wasn’t anything going on at Sacred Heart – same patients, same mysteries, same issues with the Board, same office romances, etc. We didn’t need to know what happens to JD & Elliot because there’ll just be another JD & Elliot around the bend. The sum is bigger than its parts.

Wow, we’ve watched this show from the start. . .even watch it in re-runs almost every night, and about 5 minutes in my wife was like, “I have stuff to do” and when she left, I watched the Celtics game.

What an oily heap of shit.

The two best parts were at the end when Kelso thanked Ted,
“Thanks for everything, Ted…sincerely.”

And when everyone was wondering if Kelso actually cared about Sacred Heart, and the intern held hostage earler just says,
“He did.”

Upon re-reading what I wrote, I meant to say there was nothing going on at Sacred Heart that hasn’t been going on for years. Not that there’s nothing going on :smack:

I didn’t get that episode at all. I mean, what the hell was that? Who’s decision was it to run that as the finale when it made absolutely no sense in the storyline. It had a few moments, but I was really disappointed. I’d rather not remember the show like that. I’ll just pretend it ended a few seasons ago when it was still good.

The whole NBC Thursday comedy block sucked this week. Scrubs was the worst of the lot.

I’m guessing it had something to do with the writer’s strike, and that episode being already done and “in the vault.” Maybe they had parts of another ep. that they intended to use as the “Real” finale, and then realized too late that they:

a) forgot to air this one before Kelso left, and
b) couldn’t put the parts they had together into a coherent episode.

So they ran with the only thing they had left.

I was thrown by Laverne’s return as well so I looked it up on Wiki:

After the show was renewed for a seventh season, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence promised Aloma Wright another job on the show because killing off Laverne was written under the impression that it was the final year of the show. Wright plays a new character that is similar to Laverne, but only J.D. can see the similarities. Initial reports that she would play Shirley, Laverne’s twin sister who is supposed to be the alcoholic, non-religious “anti-Laverne”, turned out to be untrue.

I think a fitting name for the janitor would be “Janitor”. Similar to how his girlfriend is named “Lady”.

In last week’s thread, I said his name must be Guy. His girlfriend Lady has called him that (“There’s my Guy!”), but it could be taken either way.

He’s already said his name is “Jan Itor.”! And the imdb profile for The Fugitive says that the role Janitor played was portrayed by “Neil Flynn”, but that could be an alias.

Interesting about Shirley.
