FYI, for anyone who’s not obsessively attached to every scrap of NFL offseason news, the Colts have reportedly made it nearly official by informing Andrew Luck that they will be picking him #1 overall.
I’ll dive into this a bit more in the intro to the official thread, but the point of this Mock is to draft as if you were the GM of the team you’re picking for. The goal isn’t to attempt to replicate the actual draft results, so if you think you team will take player X but you think they should take player Y, select player Y. That said, I encourage you to share these thoughts in the thread.
It’s probably not likely to be an issue, but I will however pencil Luck in officially, no point in garygnu getting cute and turning this whole thing on it’s head. Also, I notice that because of this garygnu (who initiated the idea for the mock) will only have one pick at the end of the 1st round. garygnu I’ll give you one of my 2 early picks of your choice, let me know which (Miami or Buffalo) you’d prefer.
With that in mind, I’m just going to go ahead and put in my pick for RG3. I’m pretty sure I don’t need to explain why, but just for completeness:
The Redskins haven’t had a true franchise QB since LT rearranged Joe Theismann’s leg almost 30 years ago. Sexy Rexy was never the answer. We traded away the farm so we could get this guy, and it’s a huge gamble, but what’s done is done, and frankly it’s nowhere near the worst bet I’ve ever seen. The whole salary-cap thing hamstrings us a bit extra for the next couple of years, but that’s a whole other enchilada. In any case, we’ve plugged that gaping hole under center, and have a QB to build a team around.
So I guess that’s going to put Hamlet on the clock whenever this officially kicks off.
I’m going out for the afternoon, but should be back around 7 or 8, maybe sooner. I’ll research Tampa, and try to post a reasonable pick for them according to need/best available player at those positions.
Kahlil isn’t 100% but fairly likely, giving me the first interesting pick…

Also, draft day trades are fully allowed. Chat it up people, I recommend PMs. Be realistic, but when you are on the clock don’t feel like you need to draft quickly just to move things along, use the time to negotiate if you don’t have a obvious pick to make.
Grey Ghost blocks PMs from the Dope so hopefully he’ll be around to contribute and can get gotten a hold off for negotiations if that’s in the cards.
ETA: Also, I’m going to see Tosh tonight and will probably be offline from 9PM-Midnight or so. No need to wait on the commish, but just in case anyone is looking for me. I’ll summarize all this stuff later in the official thread.
I just sent Omni a pm with two proxy picks (first choice and an alternate) for Tampa in case I don’t make it back online in time.
I’m sure everyone will be stunned to learn that both picks are SEC guys. 
I’ll keep them in hand just in case, but my initial inclination is to simply wait until you get back so you can entertain trade offers and write up your reasoning. This isn’t a fantasy draft, there’s no clock, if the goal were to just bang out 32 picks as fast as possible we could be doing it on some website somewhere. I want to keep it communal and entertaining.

Doubt the Texans will actually trade their 1st round pick—they usually don’t trade out of their 1st round position, and haven’t since 2008. Ergo, I probably won’t trade up or down this year either. I can see them doing it though this year to get some more players in the 2nd round.
If we’re starting this here, I can go ahead and pick. If we want to start a new thread, I can cut and paste it to that one too.
I think the Vikings would love to trade down from #3. Their biggest team needs match almost perfectly with the “elite” prospects in that first tier: Left tackle (Kalil), CB (Claiborne), and WR (Blackmon). In an ideal Vikingworld, they’d trade down to the Rams at 6 or Jacksonville at 7, which would (likely) let them grab whoever is left of those three while picking up an extra top 50 draft pick.
Unfortunately, this isn’t an ideal world for the Vikings. Personally, I don’t think any team is stupid enough to think they need to buy high to grab Tannehill, but I’ve underestimated some team’s stupidity before (how’s Gholston working out for your Jets?).
If they can’t make a move out, I think Kalil is the clear choice. I’m not sold the rumors the Vikings don’t like him that much (almost everything you hear now is lies), and he’s a top prospect at a very important position. If Blackmon were a Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, or Andre Johnson type prospect, I could see him, but he’s not. Kalil needs some work (he’s not as strong and nasty as he could be), but he’s a great prospect and should be a solid starter with a lesser chance to be a bust. And the LT position is a tough one to find outside the draft.

Take a look in your User CP under “Edit Options”. There’s a messaging secontion that contains the following options.
If I remember the error message I received I think it might have been that second option that’s the issue, you seem to only allow PM from your contacts and I must not be one. Never used “contacts” myself on the Dope so I’m not sure exactly what that entails.
Count on 2 Rounds. A 3rd and 4th is a option if the first couple go quickly and everyone is enjoying themselves.
There will be a new thread in a hour or so. Just want to wait a bit so everyone has a chance to get home from work and check this thread before we start. Hang onto you picks, let the suspense build.

The PM box is set to receive messages from everyone. It wasn’t restricted to just contacts/admins. So, I’m not sure how that error popped up for you. Oh well. Did you receive my PM’d draft board?
I’m sure I’ve enough choices to make it through two rounds. After that…that’s what the Web is for.
How did we as fans ever make it pre-Internet? I remember following sports in the 1980s and 90s and it’s laughable what we considered information and analysis back then.
OK by me. I have a ridiculously-long aggregate big board I can choose from.
And people to talk about it with, too. Even my 49ers-season-ticket-holder co-workers let the draft whoosh by them. Meanwhile I’m averaging Top-100 lists, watching film, digging for sleepers, and calculating trade values :eek:. I need to argue about the draft with somebody. 
Got your PM and I was able to reply to it. However when I tried to forward you the message I sent to everyone else I got this error message.
Might be something to take up with the Mods if you’re so inclined.
