SDMB All-Pro fantasy football league 2010

Posting this message to all my leagues.

We use a built-in system in yahoo to handle free agents during gameday with one tweak. In the old days, when a player went down and his backup suddenly became valuable, the person closest to their computer would be the one who rushed in and added him to his roster. It hampers the enjoyment of the games to always be worried about that, so we came up with a system whereby at the start of each player’s game, they were put on waivers for two days rather than being free agents. That way if MJD went down, everyone would have a chance to put a waiver claim on Rashard Jenning. Since we’re using FAAB this year, it would then be resolved by who bid the most.

We used to do this manually, but now yahoo has an automatic system for doing this. It has two settings - free agents go on waivers after the first game of the week, or players go on waivers from Sunday at 1pm. I’m going to use the latter, otherwise Thursday night games would make it so you couldn’t pick up a guy on Saturday. But this leaves us with one potential problem - if, say, Adrian Peterson were to go down in tonight’s Thursday game, his backup would be up for grabs as a free agent, which defeats the purpose of our system. So our custom rule is this: Even though yahoo waits till Sunday at 1pm to put all players on waivers, we consider any free agent involved in a game to also be on waivers. The proper thing to do if you want to pick up a player who played in a Thursday or Saturday night game is to wait until Sunday when all free agents go on waivers, including the ones from the games earlier in the week. If someone picks up a player from a team involved in those games, the pickup will be manually reverted.

Any questions?

**1. (11) Drew Brees (NO - QB) **
Picking at the end of the snake often makes my life easier and this is one of those situations. I like having Brees as my main guy this year because even if he’s not spectacular, he puts up fairly consistent numbers so that should limit my hair pulling.

**2. (14) Steven Jackson (StL - RB) **
This pick was easy. The Rams won’t be nearly as awful as last season and they still need Jackson to help move their offense so I expect nice production out of him.

**3. (35) Pierre Thomas (NO - RB) **
Last nights game demonstrated what I was hoping for with this pick. Being a nice receiving option out of the backfield and receiving most of the carries, makes Thomas a great flex play because of his numerous opportunities to earn points.

**4. (38) Antonio Gates (SD - TE) **
Gates is a significant part of the chargers receiving corps and as a result, has nice potential to put up big number weeks.

**5. (59) Hines Ward (Pit - WR) **
A strong, consistent receiver who might become a quick favorite of the inexperienced Dixon for the first few weeks. No matter the QB, Ward will play a significant role in the offense.

6. (62) Knowshon Moreno (Den - RB)
I have no idea what he will do this season but I just couldn’t resist.

**7. (83) T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Bal - WR) **
Despite all of the Seattle nonsense I expect to see him rise to play a solid role in the Ravens offense. Flacco likes to spread the ball around.

8. (86) Donovan McNabb (Was - QB)
This is a great number two QB option for me if I ever need it. It also gives me greater flexibility in future trading.

9. (107) Santonio Holmes (NYJ - WR)
Despite his suspension, I expect Holmes to end up with a rather productive season. I watch a lot of Steelers games and I know that he has a way of making big plays.

10. (110) Visanthe Shiancoe (Min - TE)
He has a way of finding the end zone all the time. Favre also likes to use him a lot.

**11. (131) Philadelphia (Phi - DEF) **

12. (134) Kenny Britt (Ten - WR)
13. (155) Darren Sproles (SD - RB)
14. (158) Austin Collie (Ind - WR)

All of these picks are high potential players who made nice little runs last year despite not being major contributors. I like the upside of these guys.

15. (179) Dan Carpenter (Mia - K)

I really love Ronnie Brown this week against the Bills, he always tears them up… but I can’t not start Jerome Harrison against the crappy Bucs, can I? Ugh. If I had given time to think about it, I might’ve benched Peterson this week and went with Harrison/Brown. Maybe that’s crazy.
Ahhh, football season is upon us.

Remember to get waiver claims in. I think they get processed Tuesday night/Wednesday morning at midnight, but I’m not 100% sure. FAAB is a silent auction system - you put in a claim (by finding the player and clicking the add button) with a bid amount, and if you have the highest bid, that’s subtracted from your year-long total and you get the player.

Pending trade. Frosted Lightning gives up Shiancoe, Kelly’s Heroes gives up Harvin.

We have a new feature this season: GM/Coach rankings. The GM column lists the maximum points you could have scored if you put all your top-scorers in your starting lineup. The Coach grade is a percentage of how many points you actually did score compared to how many you could have.

Your max potential score is really a rating of how well you draft, trade and manage the waiver wire/free agent pool. The points are listed as average/week instead of total for season.

Still up for grabs is Frosted Lightning needing Dan Carpenter to put up 7 points to beat Court Jesters.

And, less likely, Kelly’s Heroes needs Wes Welker to make up a 7 point gap and beat out Moss and Gostkowski.

It looks like we’re probably going to have 5 people tied at 3-1.

Of course there would be a blocked field goal on a night I need a kicker to do there job but thats fantasy for you.

Gah. Clayton goes out 5 minutes into the game and Lloyd is tearing shit up on my bench.

He put up 29 points on my bench. Blah. I think with today he probably moves up to being the #1 scoring WR and no one has ever started him.

That Harvin return TD has made my game into an actual competition, instead of me just waiting for Peyton Manning to throw enough passes to beat me. Go Percy!

My game is closer than it should be. Chitwood needs MJD to score 18.35 points. I was having a hard time picking WRs - I had to pick 2 (or 3) out of Lloyd, Knox, Calvin Johnson, Bowe, and Amendola and I picked the wrong ones. Calvin Johnson was supposed to be so hurt that he might only be used as a decoy, and the Giants are the #1 pass D. And after no one ever starting Lloyd yet seeing him put up 20 points a week consistently, I had to start him. And Bowe… well I loved his matchup, and I started him in 2 other leagues, but he seemed risky.

But Johnson and Bowe put up 24 and 26 points. Hell, I could’ve started any of them, or Thomas Jones (18) in my flex too. Bah. All sorts of points on the bench this week. My coaching grade is gonna suck.

League is too quiet this year. We got to 9 pages on last year’s league thread! I’m going to start beating people with sticks.

I’m willing to move Schaub and one of my RBs or WRs for a top QB. I’m willing to move Peterson/Hillis/Johnson only for a top QB + something else of value, but I’d be willing to do Schaub + Knox/Ronnie Brown/Thomas Jones/Dwayne Bowe, maybe Lloyd or anyone else for a top QB. Send me offers.
