SDMB All-Pro fantasy football league 2012

Please don’t say anything to him… at least not until after I’ve played him in Week 13. There is a good chance I’ll be needing a win for a playoff spot. Haha.

Dang SenorBeef, I was all set to come in here and bust you up for buying into the Jermichael Finley hype but I see you are doing just fine with his measly, and typical, contribution. Enjoy owning that frustration!!

In other news… all hail Doug Martin!!

I’ve been plugging random tight ends into my starting slot all season, changing them pretty frequently - Finley seemed like the best of a rather bad bunch.

Apathy is apparently contagious. Omnipotents, No Use For A Name, and Taz are all leaving bye week and injured players in their starting lineups. I know Yahoo was jacked up on Sunday but it wasn’t impossible to set your lineup prior to noon on Sunday.

I know its par for the course in most other leagues but it still kind of sucks for the rest of us still playing.

In any event, we certainly need to change the name of the league. This is (a)pathetic.

Yeah, this league is a dissapointment. I find myself not spending much time on roster management or anything even because the league is too thin with too few starters - too easy to manage. I think we’re going to have to revamp the league significantly next year to keep it interesting. I’m open for suggestions as to what we should do with it.

Let me join, thats what. I don’t talk quite as much shit as you do, but I’m as competitive as they come.

Actually, if anyone ‘gives up,’ is just over it, I’ll gladly take their team and that burden off their hands - if anyone is interested just let me know.

I’m not giving up, but I tend to do a lot of lineup changes Sunday between 11 and 1, looking for matchup-related steals available in free agency in the last moments. As luck would have it, last week I had to attend a luncheon, so I did everything the night before.

Was this message supposed to be for this league or the Big League?

For me, it is completely opposite. There are a good number of starters available, so I have to continually think about matchups. I try not to play around too much because that only leads to trouble but I still have to evaluate my roster.

In the Big League, I am basically on auto-pilot unless I have to drop an injured player or fight to pick someone up off the waiver wire.

No, I meant it for this one - having 2 WR, 1 RB, and 1 W/R slot is a lot shallower than most leagues. I find that you start your studs and rarely have to make a decision. The hard decisions are rarely for your RB1 or WR2 slot - they’re for RB2, Flex, WR3/4, etc.

Okay, that makes a lot more sense. I know we are not even at playoffs, so this is a super early discussion, but adding a starting RB slot would change a lot of that. Just something to put on the board for next year.

In the meantime, I need to keep myself above .500

I’d like to get within shouting distance of .500

This is the week where Green-Ellis (18.30) beat out both Ray Rice (10.80) and LeShoure (14.70). This week, G. Graham (24.20) beat out O. Daniels (8.70). Yet, even had I chosen optimally, there was no way in hell I would even have come close to beating No Use For A Name’s 174.55, led by Matt Schaub (42.55) and Andre Johnson (42.30). Life just ain’t fair.

I’m barely better than a team on autopilot, and I’m trying.

Want to know something crazy? On draft day, Tazmanian devils was projected to crush this league - almost 1500 points, 13-0 record, 5 wins higher than the next guy.

He’s currently 1-10 with 857 points, projected to be 2-11 with 1072.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it.

Wow. That’s odd. He’s had some trouble with injuries (MJD, Jordy Nelson) and Gates has been more 2011 than 2008… again. But still, that strikes me as pretty odd. It didn’t seem like his draft was that overpowering. Oh well, I guess that’s why they play… Oops, shit. Can’t believe I almost wrote that.

I agree that another starting slot would increase competition a little, especially during the bye weeks. Might put a little impetus behind actually trading as well, which really seems to be a low point with this league. But, as SenorBeef point out, with such shallow lineups, you really can start a decent team every week with minimal waiver pickups and no trades.

We could maybe think of doing something radical to revive interest in this league. RB/WR parity has increased over the years in fantasy football - maybe we could try a league with like 7 flex spots instead of traditional RB/WR/TE slots to maximize strategy flexibility or something like that. Something to make this unique and interesting again.

Hmmmm… that’s an interesting suggestion. We should discuss it this off season but I’m all for a radical reinvention… at least insofar as it revives interest. Two QBs? IDPs? Definitely some options out there. We could do like Bill Simmons’ league where the winner gets to vote out one other player for the upcoming season!

I will maintain my desire to be in a league where the rest of the league gets to rename the team that finished last (and you can’t change it until you win). That’s motivation.

All flex and IDP? Can you do IDP and DEF at same time? I’m not big on 2 QB. Even with just 12 people, there will be teams screwed on bye weeks.

2 QB can be a pain once you get further into the season but I really like the idea of all Flex. I’ve always dreamed of fielding an all TE team.

I also like the idea of IDP and DEF (if that’s even possible). I’m basically up for anything that isn’t multiple QBs.
