I hate Thursday games. I hate having three days to think about how my lucky-ass opponent got over 40 points out of three players from a 10-6 game.
Aw, poor thing.
I actually have a shot at closing a 65 point gap with 2 players.
Guys, I’ve been really busy lately (ah, the life of a small-town journalist) plus I’m studying for the LSAT, so if you haven’t seen or heard from me, rest assured that I’m still checking in even if I don’t get back to you right away.
Wow, that sucked. Before the Sunday night game, I was losing 98.15 to 27.6 with 2 players left to play. I was just getting blown out and the game barely mattered to me. Except that both of those players had awesome games and I came back… to lose by 4 points. I needed 70.55 points, and got 67. Ouch.
Now I get to beat myself up and say I could’ve picked up a free agent kicker, or started Hasselbeck instead of Roethlisberger, or started Maclin, Moreno, or Betts in my flex spot instead of Pierre Thomas, any of which would’ve won for me.
Pretty tough, but then again, you knew it would be a loss anyway. You can’t beat yourself up too much since there’s no possible way you would have started any of those guys at your flex over Thomas.
Since it was obvious I would lose the moment Omni got all those improbable points from a 10-6 game, I decided to look ahead and see how things looked for me the rest of the way. I’ll obviously lose to SenorBeef, that’s a given. I’ll be 6-5 going into a game with Isotopes where I’m a 14 point underdog, so if I lose there I could be looking at having to play in to the playoffs against Ellis Dee in week 13, assuming there’s even a spot to play into. A week, I might add, where not a single one of his starters faces a top defense.
It looks likely that I’ll lose out and miss the playoffs. And I might be the highest scoring team in the league when that happens.
I actually didn’t know it would be a loss at halftime when I was only down by 25 points. It was looking fairly possible then, so I got my hopes up.
I doubt I beat you next week. At best I have a 50/50 shot, especially with Brown probably being out.
I feel bad cause that was way closer than I ever thought it would be. Feel free to blame the Rams. They suck as we all know but now they get points while being crap.
Well, you check the league often enough to set your roster. You could reply to trade offers even if it was just to deny them, or even make a quick counter-offer. Complete lack of response is irritating.
I was watching the game and shaking my head every time Moss or Wayne did something ridiculous. I got back from the bar and was thankful Roethlisberger had a crappy day. If he did anything else I would have been screwed.
Yeah, I have the top 2 scoring receivers in the league now, by a decent margin too. Which is pretty awesome if you consider my drafted receivers were Steve Smith (CAR), Anthony Gonzalez (GIMP), Lance Moore, Devery Henderson, and Josh Cribbs.
Unfortunately Brown is gimpy, so now I’m going to have to play a guessing game between Moreno/Barber/Betts/Moats/McCoy. I guess Westbrook suffered another concussion this week and that may end his season, so I guess that might give me an easy choice.
Fun Kid_A fact of the week…
Only 3 times has my opponent scored less than 100 points. I won one of those weeks and lost the other two by a combined 1.40.
That 2-8 burns my retinas every time I look at it.
BTW, is it unethical to accept a trade for Michael Turner?
Unethical in what way? If both teams are making an honest attempt to improve their team (even though you’re out of it at this point) then sure. If for some reason you’re dumping your good players off to people, no.
Btw, those of you who don’t check the league and your trades often please do so for the next few days. We only have until Friday to completely any trades, and I’m going to be throwing around offers, so at least look them over and reject them if you don’t want them, instead of just leaving them unanswered. I’m always up for counterproposals.
If it was offered before Sunday, it’s 100% unethical to accept the trade.
Oh, sorry. I wasn’t even thinking about the injury, I was thinking you meant because you were tanking and it was some weird lopsided trade. Yeah, it’s bad to accept a trade that someone left open that was made pre-injury if it’s clear that they wouldn’t want it now.
Is there any interest in pushing the trade deadline out one more week? I don’t think moving it ahead would favor anyone in particular and I can’t really think of much reason not to, but I don’t want this to seem purely self serving so I’d like to know if anyone else would be interested.
The reason I ask is because I have some deals out there that I think can make work, but the response time on some players in the league to trades is quite long, and I’m not even sure they’re going to read my proposals before Friday, let alone any sort of negotiation.
Well, that, and since we’re all mature and reasonable here I don’t think there’s going to be pointless last minute dumping of players or anything. I don’t see a big downside. But I’m open to suggestions and feedback.
It seems strange to extend the trade deadline for that reason. We’ve all known how much time we had for trades from the very beginning. I’m not okay with it unless a few more people are asking for extra time. As it is, it’s probably just you sending out offers at this point anyway.
No, don’t extend it. AS the league gets closer to the end it’ll put players into a position where they are eliminated and still able to trade. Trade deadlines are around to prevent teams with nothing to gain from trading with the players at the top.
I’m going to vote extend, but only because I feel bad for whomever ended up with Ronnie Brown after I traded him away and got MJD. I apologize for that, not that it’s my fault.
Well, I figured it was something that people don’t base decisions on. Like… obviously if you change the scoring settings or roster positions after the draft, people can legitimately be angry that their draft strategy fit the rules that were in place before. In the case of the trade deadline, I don’t see anyone being affected negatively because they wouldn’t have based any decisions on the trade deadline, so there’s no harm in extending it.
Well… I’m not sure if this is inherently a problem. Even if people aren’t playoff bound, they may take satisfaction from having the best record they can manage. For the same reason they bother to set their best roster even after they’re out of the playoff hunt. Well, that, and it makes it fair against the people who play against them, so they don’t have an easy win.
I think the trade deadline is set like that by default because the default rules are what apply in yahoo public leagues. In that case, they’re attempting to steer off some 3-7 team going “fuck it, who wants michael turner in trade for a kicker?” type stuff. Obviously we wouldn’t have that.
But alright, I just thought I’d propose it as an idea. I’m somewhat fucked with this Ronnie Brown thing. Oh well. It’s not like I haven’t been attempting to trade up to this point - I’ve sent out lots of offers that sat for a week or two with no response.
Yeah, not your fault, who could know. It sucks, but at least Reggie Wayne has been unexpectedly awesome. I mean, he was great before - but the last few weeks he’s been nuts.
