It’s clear that Reddit’s AMA threads are more well-known to the public at large, but did they pre-date the SDMB?
Reddit was founded in July 2005.

I had to admit it, but I think somethingawful.com got us beat.
They have an “Ask me/Tell me” forum. And I think it began in 1999.
On the SDMB, the tradition started in 2000, with the series of threads “Ask the Gay Guy,” started by the poster Esprix.

Yeah, and I heard that Reddit was an offshoot from somethingawful by some guy who thought SA was to restrictive.
Followed by the “Ask the Muslim Guy” shortly after 9/11.
