I have mod permission to announce an SDMB Baby Shower! I was prompted to do this by the positive rash of pregnancies announced recently. Here’s how it works:
Any Doper who acquired a new family member via birth or adoption in 2006 or 2007, or who is (or whose SO is) currently pregnant (or has an adoption in process) is welcomed as an honoree at the shower.
Dopers who want to attend the shower will be asked to give a children’s book or books ($10 limit) to an honoree. (And please remember that babies do get older – not everything has to be a board book!)
I’ll gather the names of all the honorees and attendees and match people up. Honorees will no doubt receive some duplicate books, in which case they are encouraged to pass them along, donate them to a library or pre-school, etc.
The cut-off date to RSVP is Feb. 14 (awwwwww!).
To participate, send an email to freckafree @ hotmail dot com with SDMB Baby Shower as the subject. In the e-mail, identify yourself as an honoree or attendee and provide your mailing address.
It didn’t occur to me that some people might want to be both an honoree AND an attendee, so if you want to participate both ways, by all means, do so! Just let me know in your e-mail!
By “attend,” I mean participate as a gift-giver. If you want to receive a gift, you are an honoree. And you can certainly be both.
Thank Og ya’ll are so well-trained. You’ve been giving me your Doper name in the e-mails, which I need, even though I didn’t ask for it.
I think everyone so far has gvien me the due date or baby’s date of birth. When I match people up, I’ll include that info, so you don’t buy a book that the kid’s already outgrown.
RuffLlama was born on April 3, 2006. He was 3 weeks early–and a solid 7lbs 11oz. I am VERY grateful he didn’t go full term. He’s stayed with that pace, too…at 10mos, he’s 25+lbs, 31" tall, and wearing 18mos-sized clothing. Daddy is 6’4", so it’s to be expected…
That’s a big boy you’ve got there! Spencer has his 9 month well baby visit next week, and I’m expecting him to be about 19lb and 28". He was 7lb 12oz, but right on time.
Ooooh, we get to give updates here? My little guy is pretty big, too. He was born 10 days early, weighing 6 lbs 14 oz. He’s now, at just over 10 months, 24 lbs and also wearing 12-18 month clothing. He’s crawling all over the place at lightning speed, pulling up and starting to cruise, and has decided he doesn’t want any stinkin’ baby food - only what we eat for him. Seriously, he goes off if we offer him something that we’re not eating, too…very opinionated.
Okay…should I be embarrassed that Bennett is 5 1/2 months, was 18 lbs three weeks ago for an ear recheck (at 4 3/4 months), and is probably about 20 lbs and around 29 inches now? He’s in 6-9 month clothes, but 9-12 month sleepers because he’s too tall for the 6-9, and I expect him to be in 9-12 month clothes completely in another month. ACK.
He was 8 lbs, 6 oz at birth, born on his due date. (Heh. For three weeks, my midwives kept saying “I think he’ll be a small baby…maybe 6 1/2, 7 lbs?”. I wanted to smack them after he was born…).
I posted pics of my little girl being in 2004 here when I had the username smam. I have a wee boy coming in March. Email not sent, we have too many books.

Keep ‘em comin’, folks! Remember, you don’t have to be pregnant to play! And this is one shower where no one is going to make you play stoooo-pit games, like “Guess what’s in the diaper?”

Question: can I still take part, even if I don’t live in the US? Sugarbaby is due 10th April (it’s a little girl!!!), but I don’t want to cost someone overseas postage (we live in the Middle East!).
