I was looking back, and it turns out my coaching score for week 1 is a sham, because I would’ve gotten 11 more points if I had benched my -11 point New Orleans defense and just left the spot empty.

Yeah, I noticed several people getting killed by their only defense in this league. The algorithm chooses the best you could have picked in every position, though, and if your best (only) defense scores -11, that’s what it gives you.

I changed Spiritus Mundi’s name from “Spiritus” to “Mundi” to match his name in the He Hate Me keeper league. (Necessary for the aggregate rankings, which will hopefully be up sometime this weekend.)

Yeah, I was a bad manager this week, although I was lucky enough that it didn’t cost me a win.

I was sitting at my computer, about five minutes before kickoff on Sunday morning, agonizing about whether to play T.J. Yeldon or Chris Godwin in my flex spot. Yeldon had been doing better than expected over the first three weeks, but Leonard Fournette was due back for Jacksonville, which signaled a significantly reduced workload for Yeldon. Godwin had managed a touchdown in each of the first three games.

I went with Godwin, who managed just two catches for 20 yards, while Yeldon racked up 21.5 points, including a rushing TD and a receiving TD, helped by the fact that Fournette left the game after his hamstring went on him again.

I also would have benefited significantly from playing my backup QB. Mariota had his first good game of the season, while Fatface Ben had a bad night against the Ravens.

At I said, at least I was lucky enough not to be burned by my managing. Frosted Lightning must have been pulling his hair out watching Trubisky rack up 6TDs and 300+ yards while sitting on the bench.

This coming week is my biggest Bye week, with two of my top RBs and two WRs not playing.

My dynasty team also has Yeldon, Big Ben and Mariota, and I too left Mariota on the bench and started Ben. On the plus side, week 4 gave me hope that maybe Mariota’s career isn’t over quite yet.

I was fortunate in the dynasty league that two of my starters (McCaffrey and Funchess) were on a bye, making Yeldon a no-brainer start if only because my other options were much worse. Go, Yeldon!

I feel like I’ve got a team that can win it this year. Paying a few extra bucks for Mahomes worked out. Todd Gurley is delivering just as expected. I almost never go stars and scrubs, but the scrubs ended up being guys like Kenny Golladay, Mike Williams, and Nyheim Hines, all of which are working out for me. Who knows what can happen in the playoffs but I’m pretty sure I’m getting there.

I’ve managed to get to 4-1, and if I hadn’t made a bad managerial call in Week 1, I could be 5-0. This week was my biggest Bye week, in terms of sheer numbers, with four players out, and I manged to get a win…

I’ve gotten a little bit lucky in terms of competition. Only 3 teams have had fewer points scored against them than my team. As far as my own scoring goes, I’m currently 4th on the table and 7th in overall scoring, so that’s not too far out of whack.

Leonard Fournette’s ongoing injury struggles are helping me considerably, as TJ Yeldon has been racking up some decent numbers. My RB position is pretty weak overall, though, especially at actually running the ball. My 3 RBs have less than 600 yards of rushing between them, and only 2 rushing TDs.

Well, I’m the point leader so far, which is nice. Thank Og David Johnson is falling into the endzone the last couple games and that James White has been more important to the Pats than even I had anticipated. A few injuries, especially at the TE position, have hurt, but we’re hanging in. But if I lose DJ or Barkley, I think this nice run will be over.

So it was brought to my attention that Alex’s Team may have abandoned his team. In these cases, I usually end up doing the minimum possible management to field a viable team (change the starters to whatever yahoo says is best, drop IR players and pick up the best projected guy at that position, etc), because it’s not really fair to leave them derelict - not everyone plays everyone else, so some people getting a free win when others don’t could potentially swing playoff spots. So it seems like the most fair thing to do is at least give it some minimal management to stay viable, rather than purely a free win.

I’ll e-mail the guy and see if I can get him to stick around, but if not, not a big deal. We were pressured to fill league with warm bodies this year so it was always possible we’d end up with this sort of situation.

That seems to have been a somewhat premature assessment. It’s the Steelers’ bye week coming up, so I’m hoping that Mariota can pull out one merely mediocre (rather than catastrophic) performance, and give me a chance to win my matchup. The last couple of weeks do not give me much hope, however.

He took 11 (!!!) sacks against the Ravens today. I haven’t been watching the games, but is the Tennessee O-line made of tissue paper or something?

They’re actually quite good. Tennessee went down 21-0 midway through the third quarter and abandoned the run, and kept trying seven step drops that nobody uses anymore. PFF had them ranked as the #5 line heading into the season, and although they were ranked #20 after week 3 that’s not terrible. They do have at least one starting tackle out I think.

Well, after this week’s round, I remain 7th overall in total team scoring, but have moved up to 3rd on the ladder. I’m still benefiting from the fact that I keep running into people having a bad week. I have the second-lowest points-against total in the league.

Hamlet’s in an interesting position. He has the lowest points-against total of anyone, and also the highest points-scored total, yet he’s not leading the league. That honor goes to covfefe, who is now 6-0 after winning a close contest against SenorBeef this week.

My managing was OK this week. I could have added about 9 points by playing Chester Rogers instead of Jordan Howard. Howard seems to have really dropped off the map in Chicago, at least in terms of fantasy scoring. Tarik Cohen isn’t logging as many rushing yards as Howard, but Cohen managed to get in the end-zone this week, and he’s also getting far more receptions, which is big in our league.

I could also have helped my score by dropping the New England D to the bench and playing without a Defense. I thought about doing that a few minutes before kickoff on Sunday night, but decided against it. Bad move, as KC racked up 40.

My team is looking like a monster. I’m 5-2 with both losses coming under 5 points, Todd Gurley is the #1 fantasy player, Mahomes is the #1 QB, Ertz is the #1 TE, and I just got lucky that Lynch went down, since I own Doug Martin. Josh Gordon is also going to be putting up #1 numbers for the rest of the year as he acclimates to the Pats offense.

Even my bit players are pretty alright - Aaron Jones, Mike Williams, Kenny Golladay, Nyheim Hines are all guys I don’t have to wince when I start them. Most big league teams have at least a starter or two that’s painful to put in that slot.

Yahoo’s power rankings (projected score rest of season) has me up at the top.

So I wonder what catastrophe will derail me this year.

Congrats to Str8dope My Foot (Covfefe) for starting undefeated through 7 weeks. We’ve got some powerhouses at the top this year.

My team is not a monster. Rather, it has been a model of consistency, especially after my Week 1 loss, where Big Ben shat the bed and I made a couple of bad lineup calls.

After that first game, my record is 6-0, and my scoring in those games has been:

No huge scores, but no bad scores either, even when some of my better players have had Bye weeks. I was even lucky enough, this week, that my backup QB Marcus Mariota managed not to be completely disastrous.

My middle-of-the-road consistency seems to match my team. Apart from Adam Thielen, who’s the top WR in the league right now (7 straight games over 100 yards), I don’t really have any superstars. My top RB is a guy I drafted as an RB3, TJ Yeldon, and his production has been largely thanks to Fournette’s injury. I’ll be interested to see how much he regresses now that the Jaguars have picked up Carlos Hyde. One thing that gives me hope is that much of Yeldon’s production comes from his receiving game, and that might not change too much even if Hyde takes over a lot of the running.

Along with the team’s consistency, I’ve been lucky enough that I have not (yet) run into an opponent having a huge week. This week, for example, I played RshawnHochuliPeppers (Darth Sensitive), and he only managed 80.29 points. And yet a week ago he scored 170.65 (with almost exactly the same lineup) and racked up the biggest victory in Big League history.
