I remember the Ertz pick. Someone else was about to get him for $22. With about half a second left on the timer I bid $23. I already had Graham and wasn’t really intending to draft two top tier tight ends, just seemed like value. And I’m not sure you had even bid on Ertz once before that point - you got him for $24.
I know one definite example of lucky drafting was me having too much pride to otherwise finish with a chunk of leftover money which resulted in getting Lockett for a then exorbitant sum. That’s worked out so far because I easily could have lost a few close ones if not for him. I did have enough awareness to know I had need for a 4th WR; other than that I was out of my mind on that one, could have been any receiver in theory. I got Lockett for $19. If the other person had bid $20 I was going to let em have him. And if I’m not mistaken I was the only one who could have gone up to $21.
Well, this is the week I’ve been dreading. Things have been going OK (c’mon David Johnson, you can do better!), but this week I have my starting QB, 2 starting and 2 backup RB’s, one starting and one backup WR all on bye. I’ll try and drag a team from the waiver wire, but I also don’t want to dump some of my depth. Ugh.

Special shout-out to Hamlet, who broke my program this week by not having enough players to fill out his roster. Quite a remarkable convergence of bye weeks screwed both him and my program, which crashed when I got to John’s Dandy Team. That crash lost all the scores for the week, so after fixing the bug I had to recapture the Dynasty and Keeper leagues. Doh!
I won this week, thanks to a fortuitous roster move. I had two WRs on a Bye, and another out with injury. I picked up Carolina’s Curtis Samuel, and he almost doubled his season points total, picking up two TDs on three touches. Without that, I lose my matchup by about 10.
Well, you scored the 4th lowest total for the week, and still manged to win because you were up against the lowest score. Sometimes the matchup helps you out.
You also took my place in the lead for fewest points against.
I was wondering how you got all the data without a laborious one-by-one copying. Do you run a Perl or Python script through the site? Or something similar?
To capture scores in my program, I open the roster page, hit Ctrl+A to select all, Ctrl+C to copy it to the clipboard, then paste it into a textbox in my program. I have to do this once for every team in every league each week.
To speed things up, I set up an AutoHotkey macro to handle just about everything. When I press F11, the macro does the following:
Ctrl+A (select whole roster)
Ctrl+C (copy to clipboard)
[Internal AH command to switch focus to previous program]
Alt+C (put focus on the capture box)
Ctrl+V (paste)
[Internal AH command to switch focus to previous program]
[Scroll roster page down several lines with [Down] arrow keys]
[Move mouse to the Team dropdown on the roster page]
In practice, what I do is open the first roster page (alphabetically) for a given league, then for each team I make a note of their total points, hit F11, look at the program’s point total to see that it matches (it always does), then move the mouse down the already-open team dropdown and choose the next team. F11, lather, rinse, repeat.
It takes roughly 5-10 seconds per team, or around a minute or two per league. I usually bang out the entire week for all leagues in around 10-15 minutes start to finish.
Around half that time is eyeballing the final output to make sure it looks right and note anything worth commenting on that jumps out at me. I try not to pick on “bad” owners who don’t set their rosters, but more along the lines of changes in standings, perfect coaching grades, unusually bad bye weeks, or monster bench performances that came out of nowhere.
For anyone curious, here’s a screenshot of how my screen looks when I capture scores. You can see the 121.20 on both the league page and as the “Actual” total in the program. (My program stays AlwaysOnTop.) I also verify that the total Potential isn’t lower than the total Actual in the 5-10 seconds I spend on each team, but that’s only a fraction of a second. Most of the delay is waiting for firefox to render the next roster.
The worst part by far is the stupid non-standard team dropdown on the yahoo page. It doesn’t include the currently active element, which makes it a major pain to know which team is next. For the above screenshot, with my team (New York Fanboys) active, New York Fanboys isn’t in the dropdown. (Screenshot.) So for each team I would have to figure out mentally which team is next alphabetically, which would be a major pain. Instead, I go by the list in the program, which adds a check once I’ve captured that team. So I check the scores, look at the list to see the next team in the list and then pick it from the dropdown.
Lots of oofs. If it’s any consolation, I didn’t think Bell would hold out this long. But I definitely would have invested the $8 in getting Conner if I had Bell. I remember being shocked when I figured out that the guy with Bell didn’t get Conner.
My team did fine this week, beating the projection and continuing a run of consistently good scores. Unfortunately, I ran into the Beef juggernaut, and suffered my second loss of the season.
Well, I had by far my worst week of the season, and copped a thrashing as a result. I forgot to line up a second-string Defense to replace the New England D, which had a Bye, but it wouldn’t have made a difference to the outcome.
I wasn’t the only one to get blown out this week. In fact, the average margin in our nine games was almost 42 points, and the closest game was a 11-point victory.
Mr. Str8dopeMyFoot is lucky he doesn’t play me this season, because I’m feeling like a wrecking ball. He’s managed to go 11-0 though. We actually have two playoff spots locked up - him and I.
I had the top score in 3 SDMB leagues this week. This one, all pro, and he hate me.
Lot of people at 7-4, going to be a competitive playoff race.
You must be distracted by too many games if you don’t remember playing me. I came from behind on MNF. You likely would have won if McCarthy had given Aaron Jones the amount of touches 99% of fans (fantasy, Packer, and otherwise) thought he should’ve been getting and we’d be tied at 10-1.
The week you were against me was your lowest scoring week, which is kind of how it’s gone so far.
Whoops, you’re right. I glanced at the season schedule and managed to miss you. I feel like I’m doing pretty well of my worst game of the season was still over 100.
A 3-8 team (eschrodinger’s cats - dinger), which scored 50.20 points last week, has this week racked up 195 points with basically the same lineup. Pretty amazing.
