Listen, I’m a geneticist. This is what I do. The types of differences you hold forth as genetically determined differences just do not hold up under close scrutiny. Some traits can be traced through ethnic lines: Ashkenazic Jew do have a higher incidence of Tay-Sachs. Well, so do French Canadians. Northern Europeans tend to be fair skinned. So do some Italians. However, what you’re calling races do not genetically track on complex multifactorial traits like intelligence or lawlessness. There are way too many social confounding factors and the traits are influenced by too many genes for generalizations to be meaningful.
And even if there was a nugget of truth, it still wouldn’t matter. Ethnic trends breakdown at the individual. So creating policy or predetermine social outcomes of an individual is not possible to do. Even using your faulty characerizations, if you had random white guy and random black guy you can not predict, by the assumed genetics of their ‘races’ who’d be less intelligent or more crime prone.
It’s bad science, bad public policy and bad logic.

Who ever sold you on the idea that genes are determinative really did you a disservice. You can have two folks with the same genetics and one expresses a trait and one not (look up incomplete penetrance). Or each can have same trait and one gets a mild form, one severe (expressivity). Epigenetics, influenced by maternal or paternal age, womb environment, and a whole host of other situations influence gene expression.
So stop. You’re wrong.
NDD’s argument is rather simple. It is: despite the fact that black people are legally no longer discriminated against, they still underperform whites in areas of intelligence, even after so many years. Therefore, the reason has to be genetic.
Nothing else he says is at all relevant. That’s his claim. And that’s the one we’ve proven false. The difference doesn’t have to be genetic. It is ridiculous on its face to claim that black people are no longer discriminated against. We have no reason to believe that the effects of legal discrimination for almost 200 years would be undone by, at most, 40.
And, here’s the big one: he has yet to cite any non-discredited studies that show that there are genetic differences in intelligence. At least Chief Pedant was willing to admit this, and say it was only a hypothesis. And he at least didn’t use it as a basis to make flat out racist statements like NDD did in the ATMB thread about him.
And I note that, even after explaining to brazil88 that no one has any reason to believe he disagrees with NDD unless he says he disagrees, he has not done so. It is thus my assertion that he agrees with NDD, and I invite him to say otherwise. Assuming he does, my opinion of both is the same.
NDD keeps trying to distract us by saying we need to prove that racial disparities don’t exist. We do not. You need to provide citations that genetics causes these disparities. And you can’t, because, here’s the thing, scientist don’t know that, and there have been a lot of studies showing that intelligence is not mostly genetic based.
And, finally, I note that the egalitarian hypothesis is not that intelligence is not genetic. The words don’t even mean that. It is that, by treating people as if they were equal, we will create less suffering than if we do not. Read the Wikipedia article on Egalitarianism.
Words have meaning–you cannot define them however you want. Call it the anti-racial/genetic intelligence hypothesis if you want people to actually respond to you.
I think of all the ridiculous ideas NDD has expressed in his thread, the one that is the most pathetic is the idea that we all secretly agree with him. It’s one thing to express your own racism, but to believe that everybody else lives in your own twisted reality is pretty audacious.
I wonder if you are capable of feeling empathy. I wonder how you would feel if someone were saying these things about you. I wonder if you have ever for one second put yourself in the shoes of the people you so callously denigrate. I’d say the reason for this is pretty obvious. If any problems black people experience are genetic in origin, then everyone else is absolved of responsibility. Poverty? Crime? Poor education? Black people aren’t victims of these things. They bring all these problems on themselves.
And white people that hate black people or are frightened of black people or just don’t want black people around? They’re not bigots anymore. They’re just responding to the scientific facts.
Claiming that there’s a genetic issue absolves you of any responsibility for your prejudices. It’s an excuse to help you feel better about yourself.

You would calmly demonstrate that blacks behave and perform as well as whites, documenting your assertions. You would prove that since the civil rights movement black rates of crime and illegitimacy declined, while their academic performance improved, thus disproving the assertions of those who since the days of slavery argued that blacks were intrinsically inferior. You would explain how sub Saharan African countries have thrived since independence.
But black academic performance has improved, as I showed before. Sub-Saharan African countries have improved economically (at least most of them), some of them drastically.
The data for your assertion is extremely weak (Lynn’s study is crap, as I’ve shown, and the crime stats can’t be trusted).
