What a fantasical idea! Count me in!
Just outta curiosity, any of you folks ever use bookcrossing.com?
ricepad, I have. I thought it was an AWESOME idea, so I “freed” six books, made my journal entries and waited. And waited. And waited. And waited.
Someone finally picked one up, made a journal entry and said she’d pass it on.
So I waited. And waited. And waited.
That was six months ago. I’m still waiting.
Ya know, we could do a Doper version thereof, though… this gives me an idea.
See, now I should have read this thread first, as I just suggested bookcrossing.com in the other thread. :smack:
You could always do what I did last time. Send a book that you really enjoyed and then went out and bought another copy of it.
Ok Cranky I’ve e-mailed you my address (sorry about that !)
[begging voice ON] Cranky I just now saw this thread! And I’m been around more than usual this past week! I just sent you and email.
[intensive whine ON] Please, Cranky? Please? PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE??? [ALL whining OFF]
I think I would have noticed it in CafeSociety, though. Or is there a thread about it there too?
When do we get our book person? Not nagging, just curious.
Well, I seldom buy a second copy. Except when I want to reread a book, and I can’t find it because it’s probably in a box somewhere, so I give up, and buy another copy - okay, I do this sometimes. But other than that…
The important part is not to let my wife choose the book. She will intentionally ignore the part where it says send A book, and will send a box of books that I don’t want to give away and the other person doesn’t want to receive…
So,when do we get our assigned person? I’m eager!
I think I said April 4th. I miss most deadlines, but you can always send good karma in hope that I’ll meet this one. Heh. I tried to match them on the train, but I sorta need to lay them out and ponder them, which I couldn’t do.
And yes, since I haven’t done it yet, you latecomers are included. So is anyone else who wishes to sign up today.
Oh, I do have a chance. Pleeeaaase say yes!
Cranky honestly, I did send good karma but I haven’t got any email about the swap yet? Did I miss it? Or have you not been able to send yet? Sorry to nag!
clears throat meaningfully*
It hasn’t been sent out yet?
:::::::Whew!:::::::::
I thought I missed out during the Great Ice Storm of 03. (and subsequently deleted it in the over 100 spam messages log jamming my email.)
Excellent.
No, I’m a lazy, lazy ass. I was working on matching people up during my Junior League meeting last night, but then we had a presentation from a female cop about pressure point self-defense, and it was too interesting to ignore.
So no matter how mad you get about me not sending these out, I strongly recommend against coming up from behind and grabbing me around the neck with your arm.
I’ve got a lot of matches made, but am reluctant to send those out now until I get them all done, since I might need to do some switching at the end when I find I’m left with the person who likes magical realism in political thriller novels and can’t find a good match.
And twickster, that better be a kindly throat-clearing. I mentioned you in a crush thread, for pete’s sake!
Ohmigod, was I in this thread when I cleared my throat meaningfully? I thought I was, um, somewhere else.
pops a cough drop and wanders off to the crush thread…
So, Cranky, how’s the matching going? Mailing the book out by the 18th might be hard if we don’t have our names yet…
Don’t worry, I can hardly hold you guys to a deadline when I can’t meet them myself. You will have more time.
Now damnit, everyone stop asking. I’m ashamed enough as it is.
Maybe I should just randomly throw people together and worry a little less about the careful matching. It would sure go faster…
I got my swap-ee today! And now I have a question - can we contact our swap-ees and fine-tune our selections accordingly? Or is it supposed to be a secret? My swap-ee has already read several of the authors I’d consider sending, and I don’t wanna send something she’s read before by the same author.
