SDMB Book Swap

I’ve been very bad.

I got my book a few days ago and have not said thanks.

Thanks Edward the Head. Are the other two books ones which also have the same central character?

I have also posted two books to White Lightening. I did post them a few days ago, but I have not had time to come here and post about it. I hope you like them, e-mail me if you want to talk about them

Rick

delphica I am so glad to hear you got the book. I couldn’t remember your name and forgot to include a note. I hope you enjoy Phantom. It made me laugh, cry, shout, tear my hair. I’m really glad to hear you haven’t read it, sending only one book, this was my greatest fear.

Hey, **Lamar Mundane **, I got my book!!! It arrived yesterday and I started it promptly last night. I am a huge Jon Krakauer fan; I totally agree with your assessment of him. I had read Into The Wild several years ago, but don’t have a copy and had wanted to reread it, so this worked out perfectly.

Thanks!!! When I finish it, we will have to talk about it. I am looking forward to that.

Cranky, I am quite willing to offer my services if you have a history buff or mystery nut out thee that still needs a reading partner. I can easily hunt down a good book and contribute to the cause.

Bristlesage: I hope the book arrived okay???

Fisher Queen, just wanted you to know that I got the books you sent. I am not acquainted with either author or title, so this should be fun, diving into the unknown as it were. When I get the first one read I will tell you what I thought about it!

No word yet on my book. I’m dying of curiousity.

I am still waiting patiently for mine…
all by my lonesome…
…sigh…

Asylum , your book was mailed off today. I apologize for the delay but I honestly haven’t had the time to get to the post office.

Quasimodem, I love the PILE you sent me! The Mad Magazines in particular are hysterical, and in true Doper fashion, you included the LOTR parody. Nice work.

ShadowKat - have already started *Hunter’s Oath * … having a bit of trouble keeping the second story arc with Evayne straight, but definitely enjoying it - thanks!

Hrmph - I can’t add a journal entry to Bookcrossing.com without the BID - will haveta wait til I get home.

Speaking of which… ** Steve Wright** would you be so kind as to write or paste the following into the front of yor book, once you get it?

Hello Kind Reader,
Just a quick note that I’ve registered this book at BookCrossing.com, so that I can keep up on where it goes, who reads it, and what they thought of it. Please visit www.BookCrossing.com/692-89430 to make a quick journal entry, then pass the book along to someone else who will appreciate it. We can all track this book’s journey and the lives it touches forever more!

Thank You!

I meant to register it before I sent it out - but it slipped my mind. Should be arriving sometime this week.

Me, too. I have heard from my sender, but nary a book has crossed my doorstep.

Yay! I hope you like it as much as I did.

I just got mine from Morgainelf today. Cold Sassy Tree, and I’ve read the first chapter already.

Kat, I love Cold Sassy Tree! The only bummer is, Olive Ann Burns died before finishing the sequel. They published it anyway but it just isn’t as satisfying because it has such an unfinished feel to it. It’s one of those books where you WANT to keep reading about them.

Ellen, I’m not at all disappointed that you’ve already read Plainsong because it’s just so nice to know you know about it. I almost couldn’t send it because I wanted to read it again myself. I’ve got some other Haruf books I could send. None are quite so beautiful as Plainsong, but still good.

Shirley, I know that your person has not forgotten about you, and in fact they were delighted to have you as their recipient. You will get your book!

**Delphica ! ** You Tease!

Just after I posted my lament, I noticed that our mail was waaaay early today…like four hours…do you know how rare that is? I take this as an omen of good things!

And what to my wondering eyes should appear, but two books!
**The Lemon Jelly Cake ** (which I am now on page 10 and enjoying it immensely ( It is a charming narrative of a simpler time in the 1900’s, Illinois and how it is simpler, yet people still have the same worries. I am only on page ten and really like it so far. -(Why yes, I am babbling, how nice of you to notice. ) You have no idea of how rare that is on a "here you should read this you may like this because *I loved it *. Which to the jaundiced ear translates as “and therefore you must love it as much as me AAAAAAAAMENNNNNNN!”

The book opens with a funeral. I shared this info with Mr. Ujest and he just smirked. Death and all its related cheefulness are always topics I can talk about or turn a conversation to discuss. Oh, I am so excited!
And also, in the bonus round, I received a children’s lit book
( because I groveled so nicely for it  **Memoirs of Bookbat ** which with the write up on back of " A story so good, it undoubtedly will land on a list of banned books" - Baltimore Sun is enough for me to read it! I can’t wait to crack it open!
I am so excited right now…I feel like a ferret on crack. Whooooooo!

More details as the buzz wears off. Christ, I have so much energy now I could shingle a roof, if I were so inclined, which I am not.

Thank you!

Wow. I call Shirley Ujest as my all-time recipient for all future SMDB book swaps, gift exchanges, Secret Santas or whatever else because she is the most enthusiastic recipient of someone’s used stuff that I have ever seen.

I’m glad you are liking The Lemon Jelly Cake so far. Someone in my book club recommended it to me, and I thought it was just a hoot and a half. Keep me posted!

I finally received my book yesterday. FriendRob did a good prompt job of sending it, but it took 13 days to get here.

Thanks FriendRob! I’m looking forward to reading it.

Glad it finally arrived! It was also made into a movie starring Faye Dunaway, which wasn’t half bad.

I’m home sick today, so I’ll be able to get further along into Raney, my book from Jess. Loving it so far! I lived in South Carolina for a year, and it’s really bringing back some memories. Any book with a quote from Roy Blount Jr. on the cover that says “If I were single, I’d marry it.”, can’t be bad!

Whoah, colored smileys are back!

Whoops, maybe that should read “colorful smileys”?? Not meant to be a play on words considering the subject matter of Raney!

It’s all good ResIpsaLoquitor. I had faith but I have no patience at times. I have been extraordinarily busy recently and probably won’t even get to the read the books immediately when they get here so I probably just should have kept my mouth shut (or fingers still). Still, I appreciate the update.

Politzania’s contribution dropped through my letterbox yesterday, and I must say, it brightened up an otherwise awful day. It’s an SF anthology called Carmen Miranda’s Ghost is Haunting Space Station Three. Beat that for a title.

I received my books last week, but I don’t know who sent them as the note was signed with an initial only. They are perfect books for me, as I love mysteries but haven’t read these! So thank you enormously, kind sender!

My offering started on its way today… the delay mostly due to my second-, third-, and fourth-guessing myself on my choice. But in the spirit of sharing a book that I think more people should read and that I love myself, I went for it. So, Con Template, you should be getting a package soon. I sent by UPS Ground.
