SDMB Diplomacy World Championship

[taps foot…]

Alright, who’s the slowpoke in Game Two? You’re delaying the fun stabbity goodness!

Yeah, what’s up with you Game 2 folks? It’s more fun to point and laugh at the people in the other game, and you’re denying us our entertainment! Well, except for Germany…

ha HA!
[/Nelson]

Did you forget us before you went overseas?

Apparently. I hope we get extra time.

Sorry for the delay. My trip was harsher than anticipated. NOTE: I’m not changing the deadline for Spring unless someone wants it to happen.

Let’s give a big thank you to grimpixie for stepping in and being mercilessly cut to ribbons! Ouch, that looked painful…

sigh. I’ve got better things to do with my time than play the patsy in a game of spank-the-n00b.

Don’t let whatever’s happening in this game sour you on the game. First, someone is going to get the dirty end of the stick – the nature of the beast is someone is going to be the focus of the attack. Some days you’re the windshield, somedays you’re the bug. Sucks, but it’s life.

Second, if you’re new at this then there is a learning curve. Ask for feedback afterwards or at least review what happened and try to see where things went askew. Otherwise you might find yourself in the same position again and again. IIRC I was toasted to a crisp in my first game but have done okay in most subsequent outings. I’d like to think that the people adjoining me were just selfish bastards who didn’t see the real opportunities that sticking with me would have afforded them, but in reality I have to take at least some of the credit for my eventual demise.

I’ve found I’ve enjoyed the game best, and usually played better, when I was able to establish a good rapport with the folks I was playing with and against. Even getting stabbed is a lot more palatable if the person who stabs you does it with grace and aplomb.

I’d be happy to share tips and pointers with you after the games are over, although since there is still a chance we’ll both meet in the next round I am a bit reluctant to be too helpful at this point, but drop me an email if you like.

Whats going on with game 1?

We still have a player out of touch due to illness. I’ll follow up with him tomorrow.

And, let me point out, to back Shibb up…I am, undoubtedly, the most experienced diplomacy player on the board. And I have never, EVER won an online game.
