Pretty much. In Yahoo, I think you can set your lineup for each day, but this appears to be a set lineup for the whole week. I wouldn’t be too worried - it’s convenient for new players to just have to check their lineup once a week, and everyone will get screwed by an injury at some point. Just hope they happen later in the week!
It’s pretty impressive how the Monarchs, who draft just before/after me, keep taking the player at the top of my list (my team is Kiner’s Korner). I wonder if I’ve been doing the same to them.
I’m the Monarchs. Yup, you’ve been frustrating me a good deal this draft! Braun and Sale in particular.
Well we’re clicking right along. Halfway through Round 11, we’re getting through about 2 rounds each day. With a decent push this weekend, we could be done mid-week next week. So far, I have to say pretty good job drafting by a bunch of new players - only a few questionable picks, but in a 10-team league, there’s tons of room for improvising, especially if you really want a certain player. I’m really happy with my team at the moment, and think I’ve gotten lucky on a few of them. I was hoping for either Molina or Santana, and when Santana was picked, I was POSITIVE that Kiner’s Korner was going to screw me. Luckily, I got Molina, and a few more catchers flew off the board after me - so clearly people were wanting to fill that slot.
It also affects the values of certain players. For instance Werth is a monster in daily leagues where you can just play him against lefthanders. When you have to play him every day he’s just a typical middle-round OF.
I treat catchers like kickers in football fantasy. They’re all pretty similar statistically and take so many days off it’s hard to depend on them. I’ll take the dregs you guys leave me
I usually do as well - but when my #2 catcher is the 4th off the board 5 rounds after the first was drafted, I’ll take that all day.
Did this league start? If not can I still join up?
I had too many other worrisome areas to take a catcher.
Yes, it started already. Sorry.
Hello,
I am the “Aesthetics”
As a newbie to fantasy baseball, I was wondering if some of you more experienced players had any tips as we get into the last rounds of the draft - mainly concerning drafting “bench” players. Is there any good way to go about it? Draft whoever is the best? Some sort of strategy?
Thanks!
I like to have bench players who qualify at multiple positions since you can’t really have a backup for each starter. This is also the time in the draft to take flyers on rookies and younger players you think may have a breakout year, but aren’t really good enough to start based on past performance.
That being said don’t sweat it too much. Most of your bench (and a starter or two) probably won’t survive the first couple months of the season players go up and down in quality and you work the free agent/waiver wire.
Drafting for a weekly league is a bit different. While having some options for backups on offense is good, you can’t really slot them in on a daily basis. With a 10 team league, you’re going to have to rely on the player pool for replacements at some point. It looks like there’s one DL slot for injuries, which is nice, but not a ton of room.
I’m going to be drafting for potential, and for covering my injury-prone players (i.e. Altuve backing up Kinsler). Going with a best-available is never a bad idea - just make sure you’re not stocking up all at the same position.
The draft is finished!
I feel pretty good about my team. Of course, the big question is what kind of hit Cano’s stats will take now that he will be playing 90 games in Seattle and Oakland.
I feel good about mine, too.
My biggest concern is Josh Hamilton making a comeback.
As a newbie, I’ve enjoyed the draft process. Can’t wait for the season to begin!
I’m extremely happy with my team. I really only had a couple major “damn you!” moments during the draft, but that’s the nature of the beast. My goal is always to draft for value first, and then tend towards power more than balance. I think I have a TON of power potential on offense - and should Reyes return to form (I’d be happy with 80%), he’ll provide a solid boost to AVG and SBs. Focusing heavily on offense the first part of the draft allowed me to focus on high-potential pitchers later in the draft. I’m hoping that lots of Ks will lead to good ratios. I was really happy to get Jansen where I did - he’ll be extremely valuable in a weekly league.
I’m always happy to entertain trade offers. I’m also happy to discuss any offers you might have on the table to give advice. It’s a newbie league, so please don’t be afraid to ask. Trades in fantasy baseball are usually a little more subtle than in football.
Munch, you caused me some grief, taking both Molina and Altuve just two picks before I planned to!
My only question…who has the best team name?

My team, Kiner’s Korner, is composed almost entirely of either sleepers/young players, or players who are coming back from injuries or PED suspension (my entire starting outfield). Only McCann and Zimmermann (maybe Sale, too) are players who are known quantities.
So, high risk/high reward in the extreme. If everyone lives up to their potential, I should win easily. If not, I could finish last.
I’d say the Monarchs have the best name.
I was going to go with some variation on “The PEDs”, but missed out on a couple of players to accompany Braun on my roster that would have made that name funnier.
