SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 17

It’s about 11 PM here in Liverpool so I’m off to bed as I have a train tomorrow. I will pick when I wake up if it’s back to me.

If you have a chance, you should send Beef your top two targets in PM so he can make the pick for you. Just rank them 1 and 2

@Really_Not_All_That_Bright has been on the clock for 8 hours. We’re entering the prime evening hours.

Sorry, I’m here. Pick incoming.

I’m really struggling here. I want to take Cam Ward but I’m already carrying three young QBs. I want to take Cam Skattebo because it’s about time a white RB gets a 1-2 year run and sells some jerseys, but I don’t think he actually takes the starting job in NY and the offense won’t be good anyway.

I’m going to have to wait a while for him to see opportunities, but I think Luther Burden is the best WR in this draft class not named Travis. So he’s 2.04 and @dalej42 is on the clock.

P.S. Beef, my roster in Yahoo includes Miles Sanders but I dropped him. Also, Malachi Corley just got cut by the Jets. Can I drop him and get a pick at the end of the third?

2.04 Luther Burden, WR, CHI

Are you looking at the current results? Or maybe last year’s rosters? Miles Sanders isn’t among your keepers as far as I can see.

I put this up for discussion and no one replied so I don’t know how people would feel about that rule proposal. So I’m going to do a poll now and see what people think.

Proposal: Allow players who are cut after the draft starts when the NFL teams cut down to 53 man rosters to be retroactively not kept if the owner so chooses. This would be as if they kept one less player, and therefore they would get one draft slot at the end of their draft.

Justification: It has been proposed that we start our draft after the NFL cuts down to 53 man rosters so that we could make more informed decisions about the players we cut. But I decided that since that would take 3 days away from the draft it didn’t seem like a good tradeoff. We could potentially get the benefits of both: if we allow people to retroactively drop players that were cut in the 53 man roster cutdowns, we still get the extra time to draft and people are still able to cut players after the NFL cuts down to 53 man rosters.

Should we allow team owners to retro-actively not keep players that get cut in the cutdown to 53 man rosters if they so choose?

  • Yes, let teams retroactively cut players
  • No, do not let teams retroactively cut players
  • Abstain

As Jules mentioned earlier, if anyone is going to be unavailable when their pick is likely to come up, but they know who they want, feel free to send me a list of players in order of preference. Label it “player rankings for my pick” or something like that. I won’t open it until it’s your pick, and then if a guy you listed is available I’ll make the pick for you. That could help speed the draft up in situations where you know who you’ll pick but you’re not around.

I know it wasn’t going to happen, but I enjoyed the idea of Burden slipping to me at 2.08 for a little while there.

It’s an elegant solution to let us start the draft early. I like it a lot.

To clarify, RNATB would thus get a new natural last pick at 3.04, right? (Not the end of the third like he mentioned.)

This doesn’t mention Jules’ 2nd going to Justin. I seem to be leaning toward keeping each trade as one line, in order. I tried to reword it to be clearer, and I also made them links pointing to the trade announcements.

I like this a lot. Added. Not sure if I want to do this for all the trades, though.

Good morning!

@Ol_Gaffer is up

Correct. Mechancially I’d drop Corley from his roster, and move whoever he’s holding with his third round pick to that slot, thus freeing up his natural 3.4 pick as a draft pick, which is the same result as if he dropped Corley before the draft began.

2.06 Cam Ward, QB, TEN

@Jules_Andre is up.

Thank you for maintaining the draft list and adding trade information to it. It definitely makes it easier for me to make sure I get everything sorted right next year.

If this is the case, I would like to chance my vote. I answered “yes” relying on the RNATB statement of a pick added to end of draft. That felt like essentially a priority waiver pick to compensate for the information gap of starting draft before cuts. I am good with that.

Turning it into a natural draft slot to me rewards lack of preparation. If you choose to keep a player close enough to the roster bubble that they might get cut - that feels like a risk you should hold.

Never mind - it appears the vote I made on my phone did not register, so I just voted the way I wanted now.

I voted yes, I prefer the natural draft slot, but I’ll take either. I agree it’s better to get it started earlier as the first round usually takes the longest and has the most trades

Would you be a yes vote for end of the draft instead of natural last pick? We could maybe compromise with that for this year and then revisit next year.

It’s worth pointing out that RNATB kept 23 players and thus only got two draft picks. That makes his natural last pick in the 3rd round unusually high. If I were doing it I’d get 4.09. Hamlet would be getting 7.02.

Trade to announce:

Jules gives up:
WR Troy Franklin
Pick 2.07

Peteys gives up:
WR Malik Washington
2026 1st round pick
