SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 18

I was told I had to cut one Bear…

I agree the cut changes probably wouldn’t affect the draft, but I would like to get a few opinions. I tend to be very accommodating in the past with these sorts of decisions and I know sometimes that pisses other people off, so rather than unilaterally rule on this one I’m going to put up a short term anonymous poll over the next few hours to decide the issue.

Can Omni retroactively change his cuts now that he’s here to make the decision?

  • Yes
  • No

Poll closes in 4 hours, majority wins.

New York Fanboys select:

3.10 Elijah Barret, WR, Bal

I just had to jump on the run we’re having on Elis.

@SenorBeef is on the clock.

EDIT: My feeling on Omni’s adjustments isn’t so much “Yes” as it is “Of course.”

I say we make Ellis use a roster spot on “Elijah Barret” until someone enters the draft with that exact name.

Oh, shit, I wasn’t paying close attention and didn’t even realize he meant to draft Sarratt, who I was leaning towards taking at this pick.

Ha!

That’s my keen attention to detail when I type in my pick freehand instead of pasting from the spreadsheet.

This draft sucks. I have no idea who to take and I already took 2 WRs. So I’m gonna swing on an upside guy that will probably flame out.

3.11 Adam Randall, BAL, RB

The next best option was a legit criminal who entered the league at 25 after playing community college ball because no real program would take him. Who is actually a reasonable pick given the dearth of RB in this draft.

I forgot to include it and I’m not sure if it triggers on an edit, so I’ll make a new post: @Hamlet is up at 3.12.

Edit: I also closed the poll early because we got to 9 players way faster than I expected. Yes was an overwhelming victory. So

Omni’s roster now includes Ricky Pearsall and Cole Kmet

New free agents / cuts that are availble for anyone to draft:
Darnell Mooney
Jayden Blue

Who needs a backup TE.

3.12 Malik Davis, RB, The Dallas Javontes.

@Jules_Andre is on the clock.

2027 Trades

dale 1st for Jules last

EDIT: Incidentally, four of us are now finished: RNATB, Retro, Ellis and Hamlet. Of the 13 remaining picks, Jules and Peteys combine for over half with 7.

EDIT 2: Well if picks are going to come in within the edit window, why not include them, I say.

I don’t need a backup TE, either. And while I have other options that would allow me to wait, there isn’t anything else I think I’ll miss out on here.

4.01 - Malik Willis, QB, Mia

@Omniscient is on the clock

In the last 7 picks we’ve had three Elis or Elijahs and two Maliks.

Unfortunately only one Kaytron

The draft has been moving along at a pretty good clip and especially with Petey and Jules with most of the remaining picks we’ll probably finish up significantly early. So maybe we can look at moving the draft further back again next year.

But since they changed to 3 preseason games from 4, the 3rd preseason game is closer to the old 4th one than the old 3rd one in terms of who gets play time and how seriously it’s treated, so there’s less benefit from being able to see the 3rd preseason game now than there was in the past. And if we wait until after the 53 man cut downs, and the season opens on a Wednesday, that only leaves us about 9.5 days to conduct the draft which I think would be cutting it close in an ordinary year. I’m generally of the opinion that more time during the draft and more time for buffering slowdowns is probably worth more than the extra data you get from the third preseason game and 53 man roster date, but it’s a weak position. I’ll probably run a vote again next year after people have seen how they feel about the earlier start.

We only gave ourselves 10 or 11 days for the draft for nine straight years. 9.5 days doesn’t seem like an issue at all. Heck, we are almost done with this current draft and it’s only been 5.5 days. This year we originally scheduled for 16 days, which is way too long.

I say after the last preseason game, before the 53 man cut down. We don’t care about the 53 man cut down for the first round anyway. This year, after the last preseason game would have given us 11 days, which is ample time.

Fair enough, I’ll put it up for a vote again next year and if people want to start it later, that’s fine. If the difference is only a day or a day and a half, it may make more sense to wait for the 53 man cuts - not because they’ll be involved in the first round but because people may use that information to decide who to cut or keep on their team pre-draft.

@Omniscient has been up a little over 11 hours, since about 5:30pm eastern. We’ve got plenty of time so I’m not gonna call it a hard 12 hours, but we’re at the part of the draft where everything is a crapshoot anyway and it’s not as important as a first round pick, but I also don’t want the draft to grind to a halt. I’m going to say if the pick isn’t in by 10am eastern, then Justin can take his 4.03 pick. That will have been been 16.5 hours.

A reminder: how skipped picks work is detailed in this post. SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 18 - #83 by SenorBeef. There’s a minimum 2 hour cooldown between picks when a manager has been skipped.

4.02 Drew Allar, QB, PIT

@Justin_Bailey is on the clock.

Fair point.

Alright, last pick of my draft…

4.03 Bryce Lance, WR, NO

@Ol_Gaffer is on the clock

4.04 Jordan James, RB, SF

@PeteyPart2 once again.
