Any corrections to this recap welcome. I changed the * notation: All picks are put in proper pre-draft order, but any picks that leapfrogged ahead of draft slackers got an asterisk. Look for drafters immediately preceding asterisks to figure out who should be tut-tutted.
dale is on the clock, PM sent.
Wow, RNATB’s trade is looking better. I frankly thought he overpaid to move up just four spots, but if he likes Lynch a lot more than the other QBs, apparently those picks (no matter how many) were the difference between getting him or not.
I’ve been enamored with Hackenberg ever since Omni posted a link to this video back in the draft discussion thread. That the Jets took him is just a homer bonus.
Granted he appears to have shattered the record for shittiest QB performance in history in the final preseason game, but I’m not going to let that get to me. It probably means he would still have been there next round, but meh. There’s nobody left I like in this draft anyway.
3.04 Jordan Howard, RB, Bears
Damn, so close.
I’ll be a few minutes with my pick.
I done traded my pick to Jules, 3.5 & 5.12 for 3.11 and 4.4.
I should be frustrated that Howard came off the board, but he has looked pretty terrible in the preseason, game 4 notwithstanding. I still think Langford is the guy and Howard is going to be no more productive than Carey was. For the Bears sake I hope I’m wrong.
Couple of trades to announce here:
Jules Andre gives up 7.01 and a 2017 3rd
Dalej42 gives up 3.04 (Jordan Howard), and his last pick in 2017.
(If he doesn’t have a pick below the 3rd in 2017, we swap my 2nd for his 3rd)
Jules Andre gives up 3.11 and 4.04
VarlosZ gives up 3.05 and 5.12
Pick for 3.05 in the next post in a minute.
Double damn. That’s basically the offer to dale for Howard I wanted to make, except I don’t have a 3rd Rounder next year so I was gonna try to come up with an alternative.
I hope this post is as funny as it is going to seem.
At this point in the draft, I don’t see any more potential home runs. But you know how, sometimes, you loop a weak liner against the line and it rattles around against the wall a bit, and then the outfielder throws over the second baseman’s head, and then the throw home is off target and you took a weird hit into an inside-the-park-homer? Yeah, this feels like that.
Robert Griffin III, QB, Cle
I just think he’s different than he was in Washington. Still got the arm. Touch on the deep ball is there. But he’s more willing to give up on a play than he used to be, and that can make a huge difference. Learning when to take shots, when to take what you’ve been given, and when to move on to the next play is a huge step for a young QB. RGIII took a while to get there (he might not be there anyway), but maybe he’s taken a step. It’s worth a look, considering that the other QBs went just before.
Pm sent to SenorBeef
I now also hope you are wrong.
I was writing Howard off my board until he showed something, which he finally did. I think Langford is secretly trash that hasn’t yet been dumped. Carey is an old regime guy. I don’t think Howard has an elite skillset or anything, but he can develop into one of those really annoying backs that gets his 4.0 on first and second, and gets every goal line carry. And John Fox sure does like to split his RB reps.
There aren’t a lot of backs in the league who get consistent work, which is really valuable with up to 3 slots to start them in. My team was very, very shallow on RB talent, so this is worth a flier, to me. I would not have considered in him in the second round.
Help me understand that first one. Dale gives up this years 3rd for next years 3rd, and next years last pick for this years 7th? Considering there’s usually considered a 1 round penalty for future picks and this years 3rd is the 4th pick, it seems like Dale really moved down for nothing in return. Basically swapping 3.04 this year for 3.XX next year, the 7ths basically being worthless.
Presumably he didn’t really like Howard or anyone else here, just wanted to bank the pick.
He might be the last RB on the board with a realistic path to regular work, so I get it, but if Langford is trash (I don’t think so, he’s not great, but if he stays on the field he’ll keep the work) the Bears are going to need to keep drafting guys. Carey, Rodgers and Howard are all just guys, mostly slow guys at that, so their upside is badly limited.
Yeah, but you ought to be able to bank with interest. I suppose if he only drops 3 next year it works out that way, but he could end up with 3.12. I get it, this years draft sucks, but value is value.
Exactly. I started off August with Howard on my very interested draft list. During the first 3 preseason games, I dropped him from my potential list. I usually ignore the 4th preseason game, but I was at a sports bar and saw some of Howard during the 4th preseason game which I was I added him back to my potential draft list. The Bears are Langford and a committee of question marks. Figured I’d take my chances next year.
Nice pick. I agree with you and was hoping he’d fall to 3.09.
Thanks for picking up the pace.
My top 4 guys, one of which I was quite confident would be here, just went in the preceeding 5 picks. FFS. Everyone can suck it.
