$0 bids are valid on Yahoo, the FAAB money is assigned correctly.
Ok, I think that’s everything. I can’t swear that all of the vias are correct for picks that were traded more than once, but there are only so many hours in the day. I also decided to keep using the Yahoo numbering scheme, since that’s how trades must be listed, and it’s kinda stupid to use two different numbering conventions in the same post.
If I’ve missed a trade let me know. If something is listed wrong in the draft results … eh, so be it.

Was this the most trades we’ve had during the draft? Seemed nuts this year.
Oh yeah, by far.
For perspective, last year was an unusually quiet one for trades, but we only only had 3 trades during the draft, and 9 trades all year.
I think there were a lot of draft trades because I saw this class of players as being the worst one for fantasy relevant players since this league began.
That was my assessment. I traded down from like 5 times from my first pick because I just didn’t like this year at all. I have 3 2nd rounders next year with an option to swap my first, though, so I’m pretty prepared for that (hopefully better) draft.
My draft was actually pretty great, I think. I didn’t even have a second round pick this year. The RB prospects I got (Drake and Williams) aren’t even significantly worse than the guys I would’ve had at an earlier pick like Jordon Howard and Paul Perkins. None of them are very good prospects but at least I got mine late. I did give up a chance at better WR prospects like Carroo all I do every year is draft fallen WR prospects, I need to stock up and be able to a top tier RB at some point.
RetroVertigo
- (1) Ezekiel Elliott (Dal - RB)
- (15) Will Fuller (Hou - WR)
- (20) Keith Marshall (Was - RB)
- (45) Jaelen Strong (Hou - WR)
What can I say about this draft? It has the best player in it. It’s pretty good. Though drafting two Houston WRs and yet not cornering the market on Houston WRs is weak sauce. Marshall doesn’t look like much to me but has as clear a path to a lead job as anyone not named Elliott. B+
Petey
- (2) Laquon Treadwell (Min - WR)
- (14) Devontae Booker (Den - RB)
- (26) Carson Wentz (Phi - QB)
- (38) Wendell Smallwood (Phi - RB)
- (50) Richard Rodgers (GB - TE)
I love Treadwell, but he’s so slow. And Bridgewater is developing slow. And… well, there are just lots of reasons why I didn’t think he was a top five pick. I do love the Booker pick, and I can’t argue with Wentz though I personally don’t think much of him. C-.
Ellis Dee
- (3) Kenneth Dixon (Bal - RB)
- (9) Sterling Shepard (NYG - WR)
- (27) Christian Hackenberg (NYJ - QB)
- (39) Daniel Lasco (NO - RB)
Dixon will probably be Baltimore’s starter one day, but that means he’ll be playing for Baltimore. Shepard, on the other hand, is gold. He should have gone before almost any other receiver. I assume Hackenberg is just a homer pick; will he even be on the roster? B-.
dalej42
- (11) Dak Prescott (Dal - QB)
- (21) Trey Burton (Phi - TE)
- (23) Tyler Higbee (LA - TE)
- (24) Tyler Ervin (Hou - RB)

I do like me some Dak Prescott. All the other guys are just guys, though Boldin could return sneaky value. C.
RNATB
- (6) Tyler Boyd (Cin - WR)
- (17) DeAndre Washington (Oak - RB)
- (25) Paxton Lynch (Den - QB)
I needed a WR, RB and QB, in that order, and I got them. And Lynch looks like great value in the third, considering the situation he’s going to. But I’m downgrading myself for missing my pick and therefor missing out on Shepard. D.
Justin_Bailey
- (16) Paul Perkins (NYG - RB)
- (33) Austin Hooper (Atl - TE)
- (54) Kenny Britt (LA - WR)
Not really sure what to make of any of these guys. I suppose Perkins will be the starter in NY soon enough, but I think we know Britt is worthless at this point. B.

- (67) Larry Donnell (NYG - TE)

You had a lot of picks. And I kind of like all of them, except Sharpe who should not have gone before Shepard. C+.
Stringer
- (5) Corey Coleman (Cle - WR)
- (32) Malcolm Mitchell (NE - WR)

This draft smells. F.
SenorBeef
- (35) Kenyan Drake (Mia - RB)
- (37) Jonathan Williams (Buf - RB)
- (40) Rob Kelley (Was - RB)
- (42) Jared Cook (GB - TE)
I’m not sure why you’d spend two roster spots on securing the future Miami backfield when they never run the fucking ball. But your other three picks are on point, even if Kelley only has short term handcuff value. B-.
Hamlet
- (10) Michael Thomas (NO - WR)
- (22) Vance McDonald (SF - TE)
For a team with only two picks, you made out pretty well. A-.
Jules Andre
- (4) Derrick Henry (Ten - RB)
- (18) Hunter Henry (SD - TE)

- (29) Robert Griffin III (Cle - QB)
- (47) Virgil Green (Den - TE)
- (59) Kenjon Barner (Phi - RB)
- (60) Eli Rogers (Pit - WR)
- (71) Alex Collins (Sea - RB)
This draft is unfairly good. There’s almost nothing I dislike about it. A.
VarlosZ
- (8) Josh Doctson (Was - WR)
- (12) Jared Goff (LA - QB)
- (13) C.J. Prosise (Sea - RB)
- (30) Leonte Carroo (Mia - WR)
- (36) Pharoh Cooper (LA - WR)
- (48) Rashard Higgins (Cle - WR)
- (52) Robby Anderson (NYJ - WR)
This one is just okay. Doctson doesn’t look like an NFL player to me, and even if he is he looks like he’ll be injured a lot. Can’t argue with Goff, Prosise or Cooper. Carroo - well, you’ll be holding him for a long time before he returns any value. C.
I think it’s also because most of the heavy traders in the league (especially me) didn’t want to do too much trading. And because there are virtually no top-flight RBs available these days, so there is less incentive to make blockbuster moves.
Some thoughts on picks made by round. However, first and foremost, please apply the standard disclaimer that I am, in fact, a moron.
ROUND ONE:
Picks I liked:
1.05 Corey Coleman, WR, Cle - VarlosZ [traded to Stringer] - I think he’s the best WR in the draft. I tried to move back into the 1st for him after I took Henry, but couldn’t come close. The rich get richer.
1.09 * Sterling Shepard, WR, NYG - Ellis Dee [via SenorBeef] - Considering impact in year 1, he should have gone #2 (assuming a WR was going to be taken there).
Picks that were shitty:
1.02 Laquon Treadwell, WR, Min - Petey - I think he’s just at best a possession receiver, but might have trouble getting to even that low ceiling. He could be Anquan Boldin, but why is he so far behind this summer? He failed to show up playing against second and third teamers.
1.11 Dak Prescott, QB, Dal - dalej42 [via Jules Andre] - I get the hype, and I would have loved to have taken Prescott, but two rounds later. Then again, all Eagles fans are acutely aware of how god damned deceiving the preseason can be.
1.12 Jared Goff, QB, LA - VarlosZ - I didn’t really see anything from Goff pre-draft or preseason that tells me he’s a starter in the NFL. That’s extreme, but I can’t see him ever being league-average.
ROUND TWO:
Picks I liked:
Picks 1-5 - I can’t believe I had four guys “queued” for pick 2.06 at the start of the round and got none of them. Perkins and Washington in particular bummed me out. I’m happy with Hunter Henry, but he was a tier below those guys for me.
2.07 Chris Hogan, WR, NE - Omniscient - Really thought I’d get him by everyone in the third. Almost took him at 2.06, but figured a veteran would slip by everyone with upside rookies still on the board, and I thought the top TE wouldn’t go another round. I was right and wrong, considering the run on TEs later in this round.
Picks that were shitty:
2.09 Trey Burton, TE, Phi - dalej42 - Eagles fan here. He could have been had in the final round. He’s an exciting offensive piece, but his real life production will likely never match that. Forget fantasy. Not while he’s third on the depth chart at TE and the guys ahead of him are so good at what they do. Considering that the receiving TE ahead of Burton is only 25, and the blocking TE is only 31, Burton might not see much of the field for 2-3 years. (I hope I’m wrong, because Trey is incredibly talented)
ROUND THREE:
Picks I liked:
3.02 Carson Wentz, QB, Phi - Petey - Homer love, but I think he’ll end up being a star. He’s already now probably the best pick in the draft, value considered.
3.08 Malcolm Mitchell, WR, NE - Stringer - God damn it Stringer. I really wanted him heading into the draft, and I think Mitchell breaks the Pats’ unlucky streak drafting WRs. But the draft played out in such a way that I just couldn’t get him, as much as I wanted to.
Picks that were shitty:
3.03 Christian Hackenberg, QB, NYJ - Ellis Dee - God, I’ve never seen a QB look so bad in the preseason. He was way overdrafted. You can decide if I mean fantasy or real life. (Spoiler: both)
3.06 Leonte Caroo, WR, MIA - VarlosZ [via SenorBeef, via Justin_Bailey] - No path to playing time, and he’s overrated to begin with.
3.12 Pharoh Cooper, WR, LA - VarlosZ - This is only a half-shitty. Cooper could be amazing. His draft profile is very rare, and he’s a unique talent. He’s also redundant on his own team and they aren’t going to throw much/effectively to begin with.
**ROUND FOUR:
Picks I liked:
4.3 Daniel Lasco, RB, NO - Ellis Dee **- He was my sleeper 5th/6th round guy. I definitely underrated his stock, and was sad to see him go.
**4.6 Jared Cook, TE, GB - SenorBeef [via Justin_Bailey] **- It was between him and Virgil Green for me at 4.11, so that choice was made for me. It got tense for a while. I dropped Richard Rodgers primarily because Cook was brought in to soak up that production. I really thought people would forget he was available in the draft (and someone did!)
Picks that were shitty:
4.4 Rob Kelley, RB, Was - SenorBeef [via Varlosz, via dalej42] - Maybe he’s Alfred Morris 2.0. The problem is that I’m almost positive I’m more athletic than he is, and I jiggle when I run right now. You can’t really fault a 2nd team RB behind a mediocre starter in a league like this though, especially this late. Half-shitty.
Rest:
Picks that I liked and that were also shitty:
6.12 Benny Cunningham, RB, LA - Stringer [via VarlosZ] - Almost took him the pick before to handcuff Gurley. But my season is over if Gurley goes down anyway, and Cunningham is nowhere near talented enough to save it. Even if he does start (Please God no), he won’t do shit. So I passed on him for more potential upside. I’m not sure I was right, even still.
**5.7 D.J. Foster, WR-RB, NE - Omniscient - ** I completely forgot to check before the draft for dual position eligiblity, fuck. But then again, there are plenty enough starting slots in this league that it isn’t as big an advantage as normal. And then there’s this other problem: who the fuck is D.J. Foster?
-
(1) Ezekiel Elliott (Dal - RB)
This was a no-brainer. He is the elite RB in this draft. I disagree with what was said earlier about Henry, Elliott does everything he does but is better. He isn’t small but he also isn’t big. He can pass block so he is a 3-down back and basically as it stands now the only one in the draft. -
(15) Will Fuller (Hou - WR)
My #4 WR on the board. Happy he fell to me, but isn’t a game changer. A deep that with suspect hands, and QB who isn’t adept at the deep passes. -
(20) Keith Marshall (Was - RB)
A lottery ticket who is on the shelf this year with injury. College injury withstanding he was a highly touted RB who while in was seen as on par with Gurley. -
(45) Jaelen Strong (Hou - WR)
There was no one else here who I liked so I went back to the well.
I should have addressed the TE position but didn’t want to reach and none fell.
My team is in pretty rough shape right now. I’m in the unenviable position of needing to find actual first-year production in this draft (strongly considered Jared Cook like 3 different times). I also had Washington targeted in the 2nd, so there was a bit of a scramble there. Hogan hopefully puts up good flex numbers for me this year as some combo of Amendola and LaFell, and the last time Brady had a rapport with an outside WR it was Randy Moss. Hogan ain’t Moss, and Brady isn’t really Brady anymore on deeper balls, but the potential is real. We’ll see. Unfortunately once Brady packs it up in a couple years Hogan’s value might be back at zero…
Foster was like the 6th RB I had targeted in this draft. My situation at WR is more dire than RB, so I knew I was going to be drafting there a lot early. Patriot RBs are always a gamble on a gamble, but since Dion Lewis is basically made out of paper mache I figure Foster is worth a flier. I had a dalliance with James White in a previous year for the same reason and gave up too soon, so perhaps all things will be righted by week 4 this year.

Fuller wasn’t a reach per se, in that he was probably the next WR left on the board at that point, but he represents a steep drop-off in value compared to the 7 WRs who were drafted ahead of him – it’s telling that after Fuller goes with the 2.3 pick, no other WR is drafted until Leonte Carroo with the 3.6 (excepting Chris Hogan, who doesn’t really count :p). Keith Marshall is kinda the same deal; doesn’t look out of place, but also there’s not that much difference between him and RBs taken 12-15 picks later.
Overall: C+. Definitely added some prospects but, after Elliot, wound up in a no man’s land of draft value. Added a 2017 3rd, but since it belongs to the reigning champ it may well mean moving from the top of the 4th to the bottom of the 3rd. This draft definitely would’ve benefited from having picks at the start of the 5th and 6th Rounds; a couple more drops could’ve been found, I suspect.

- (2) Laquon Treadwell (Min - WR)
- (14) Devontae Booker (Den - RB)
- (26) Carson Wentz (Phi - QB)
- (38) Wendell Smallwood (Phi - RB)
- (50) Richard Rodgers (GB - TE)*
Quiet, but solid. Even though I personally don’t see why he’s considered better than (or even equal to) Coleman and Doctson, Treadwell was the concensus #2. Booker was well timed, since the RB position started to fall off a cliff right after him. Wentz, sure, I’m not a fan but definitely worth a gamble in the 3rd (and a team with a QB group of Carr, Tannehill, Flacco, and Alex Smith desperately needs to add some upside). Smallwood & Rogers are unremarkable but appropriate.
Overall: B+. Stayed put and let his draft position and the player tiers work in his favor.
*Ellis Dee
- (3) Kenneth Dixon (Bal - RB)
- (9) Sterling Shepard (NYG - WR)
- (27) Christian Hackenberg (NYJ - QB)
- (39) Daniel Lasco (NO - RB)
2017:
-2nd Rounder
+3rd Rounder (SenorBeef)*
Dixon and Hackenberg are a little reachy – not that they’re wholly inappropriate, but Dixon also wouldn’t have looked out of place at the end of the 1st, nor Hackenberg in the 4th/5th. Trading up to grab Shepard, however, was smartly done, when staying put would mean settling for a Will Fuller instead.
Overall: C+. Added some legit talent with the two 1st Rounders, but this is another team that could stand to take a couple of late-round fliers if more drops could be found. coughBryce Pettycoughcough

- (11) Dak Prescott (Dal - QB)
- (21) Trey Burton (Phi - TE)
- (23) Tyler Higbee (LA - TE)
- (24) Tyler Ervin (Hou - RB)
- (83) Anquan Boldin (Det - WR)
2017
- last draft pick
- 3rd Rounder (Jules Andre)*
I’d like Dak Prescott a lot more in the middle of the 2nd as opposed to the top of the 1st, and it was a pretty big dropoff moving back from 4th to 11th overall – staying put and taking Henry would’ve been better than Pescott + an additional late 2nd. I like Higbee but not Burton, and anyway it’s not necessary to take both of them when Tyler Eifert’s already on the roster.
Overall: C. Almost certainly needed to cut more players and generate more picks that can be used on some high upside rookies – Riley Cooper and Mike Tolbert have very low upsides and will never be part of your next winning team, so why keep them on the roster? And it has trickle down effects, as guys who make sense as late-round fliers (Burton) wind up going in the 2nd. That said, if Prescott and one of the three 2nds hit, this will be a very solid draft.
*RNATB
- (6) Tyler Boyd (Cin - WR)
- (17) DeAndre Washington (Oak - RB)
- (25) Paxton Lynch (Den - QB)
2017
- 2nd Rounder
- 4th Rounder (VarlosZ)*
Boyd’s not bad there, though, yes, not getting skipped and grabbing Shepard would’ve been better. Washington’s also ok, but he’s part of that black hole of mid-round rookie RBs, 8 or 9 of them, of whom 1 or 2 will turn into good fantasy players and the rest will turn into nothing. I like Lynch well enough in that spot, especially for a team that needs some youth & upside at QB, but he was expensive, basically costing a 2nd and 3rd Rounder.
Overall: C+. No bad picks, but also nothing that feels like a good value. And, as ever, probably not enough picks either.
*Justin_Bailey
- (16) Paul Perkins (NYG - RB)
- (33) Austin Hooper (Atl - TE)
- (54) Kenny Britt (LA - WR)
2017
- 2nd Rounder
- Option to swap 1st Rounders (SenorBeef)
- 4th Rounder*
Operating without 1st or 2nd Round picks, this draft still pulled in a pair of very respectable prospects, which is good, but it was accomplished by pushing most of the problem into next year, which is bad. Is Kenny Britt still a guy with upside? I honestly don’t know. He looked great for like 6 weeks in 2011 or something, and I spent 2-3 years waiting for him to get back there.
Overall: C. This being generally considered a weak draft, I think it would have been better to take your medicine now and get to next year with a full allotment of picks instead of dropping the 2nd and maybe moving back halfway down the 1st Round.

- (7) Tajae Sharpe (Ten - WR)
- (19) Chris Hogan (NE - WR)
- (31) Braxton Miller (Hou - WR)
- (43) Dwayne Washington (Det - RB)

- (67) Larry Donnell (NYG - TE)
- (79) Chicago (Chi - DEF)
- (91) Ronnie Hillman (Den - RB)*
Omni, to his credit, is completely willing to act on his own player evaluations instead of just signing on to conventional wisdom or picking from an ADP cheat sheet. However, this sometimes leaves him with longshot players from a dynasty perspective. The players from Round 3 on aren’t the ones I would’ve picked, but I don’t have a real issue with those. The 1st & 2nd Rounders, however, are problematic. Tajae Sharpe may have had a good camp, and may be in a good position to get touches in his rookie year … but he’s still a 5th Round pick, the 140th overall selection, when the 21st and 22nd overall picks (Fuller & Doctson) were still on the board, and historically those guys are just massively more likely to have successful careers.
But Sharpe at least is a rookie, and therefore has normal upside and a chance at a full-length career – he would’ve been a fine pick in the middle of the 2nd Round. Chris Hogan is a 27 year old 4-year veteran with 959 career receiving yards, and who doesn’t return kicks. The obvious hope is that he’s another Wes Welker (white guy WR from a division rival signed as a restricted FA), but the odds that even Wes Welker would turn into Wes Welker were astronomical, and he looked amazing on film as a Dolphin. Hogan’s basically accomplished nothing so far, and in just 3-4 years he’ll enter his decline phase.
Overview: C-. A good draft for 2016, but I think a bad one for 2019, 2020, etc. The latter set winds up mattering more in the end.
*Stringer
- (5) Corey Coleman (Cle - WR)
- (32) Malcolm Mitchell (NE - WR)
- (44) Will Tye (NYG - TE)
- (72) Benny Cunningham (LA - RB)*
Hard to judge the Coleman trade. On the one hand, giving up Doctson and a 2nd Rounder for a player that’s generally considered almost identical in value seems like a lot. OTOH, I really like the looks of Coleman and only kinda like the looks of Doctson, and in fact almost rejected the trade. (Kinda highlights the difference between me and Omni, I’d say; I’m quite willing to side with the 10 instead of the 1, even when the 1 is me.) Mitchell is a good value there (that’s the new Patriots WR to own). Tye and Cunningham are wastes from a multi-year perspective, but there isn’t much left by that point anyway, so the damage is limited.
Overall: B-. In the end I mostly side with conventional wisdom, but he still picked up two very respectable WR prospects.

2017
- 3rd Rounder
- 4th Rounder
+2nd Rounder (Ellis Dee)
+2nd Rounder (Justin Bailey)
- Option to swap 1st Rounders (w/ Justin Bailey)*
Fundamentally this year’s draft kinda sucked, so any time someone traded 2016 draft value for 2017 draft value, I think they won, and Beef did the hell out of that. And he still got some interesting players! Particularly Drake and Kelley, at a position of need.
Overview: A-.

- (10) Michael Thomas (NO - WR)
- (22) Vance McDonald (SF - TE)*
I like both picks a lot, value and upside. But, dude, where’s the rest of your draft? I think at least one of Hightower or Gillislee could have been cut to make room for a 3rd Rounder.
Overview: B. The draft is a great big crapshoot, and to reliably add talent you need to not just pick the right players but, to the extent possible, pick a lot of them to give yourself more chances.
*Jules Andre
- (4) Derrick Henry (Ten - RB)

- (59) Kenjon Barner (Phi - RB)
- (60) Eli Rogers (Pit - WR)
- (71) Alex Collins (Sea - RB)
2017
- 3rd Rounder
- dale’s last pick*
Ugh. Can we have furt back? As a division rival, this draft is distressingly good. Trading up to get Henry was a smart move at a cheap price (compare to my deal with Stringer: the 2.8 pick to move from 1.8 to 1.5, versus you giving up the 2.11 pick to move from 1.11 to 1.4). Good upside in Hunter Henry, another cheap trade to grab the last decent RB prospect in Howard, and Griffin’s a nice lottery ticket that was going to be drafted right after you. And you drafted a ton of players.
Overview: A. All that’s missing is somehow winding up with an extra 2017 1st Rounder.

- (36) Pharoh Cooper (LA - WR)
- (48) Rashard Higgins (Cle - WR)
- (52) Robby Anderson (NYJ - WR)
2017
-3rd Rounder
-4th Rounder
- 2nd Rounder (RNATB)
- 4th Rounder (RetroVertigo)*
Shocker, but I like my draft. Lots of good value. Doctson comes later than ADP says he should and nets me an extra 2nd to boot; that extra 2nd allows me to trade up and grab Prosise. Carroo was the last WR before a giant cliff in value there. Cooper is kinda paired with Goff, if one takes off there’s a better chance of the other succeeding. Anderson I think is a very nice flier for a 5th Rounder. And I managed to add some 2017 draft value in the process, turning a 3rd into an extra 2nd.
Overall: B+. I missed out on Howard when I should have found a way not to, and part of me still regrets trading away the rights to Coleman. But we’ll see. I think this is one of the better drafts.
Stay tuned for a blockbuster trade announcement.
I am mostly in agreement with this, but look at my roster - what player would you have dropped to clear more picks? Montgomery, maybe, but I’ve learned not to drop Packers wideouts.
Bryce Petty was just holding the roster spot for a kicker. I already dropped him with a waiver claim on a kicker, immediately after the draft was finalized, but of course it hasn’t cleared yet.
I could probably drop 4-5 guys I kept, but it felt like I would have been dropping meh to draft meh. What I really wanted was a TE, but there wasn’t a single rookie TE I liked at all.
