I had to think really, really hard about this one. Probably the first trade I’ve made where there hasn’t been tons of back-and-forth negotiation.
I think Rodgers has probably earned a long-term #2 gig somewhere after his production this season, or maybe even a chance to compete for a starting job. Still, he’s never done anything before despite seemingly being in the league for ever and he could just as easily be a street free agent again at season’s end (the Bucs signed him after training camp). For some reason, I despise Snead. Okay, it’s not “for some reason” - it’s because he always vultures touchdowns from Brandin Cooks. Still, the Saints offense is potent enough for me to start both of them when the bye weeks/injuries dictate (Snead is on pace for 1200-plus yards this season after barely missing 1000 last year).
As far as what I’m giving up, Washington has all the talent in the world and I was high on him coming into this year - as evidenced by the fact that I own him in three SDMB leagues. At the very least, he should be Oakland’s long-term third down back. Giving up Perriman hurts. He’s the token UCF homer player on my roster, and he’s got to potential to be a tremendous big-play threat (and is tied to a QB who doesn’t do anything well other than throwing deep). On the other hand, he’s a speed guy coming off a severe knee injury, has terrible hands, and hasn’t shown much this season. Even if he pans out, chances are he’ll never be more valuable than Snead in a PPR format.
As Jules says, this is really a “win now” move for me and an “add upside” move for him. Doug Martin’s hamstring injury is lingering, and my vaunted RB depth has now disappeared with Abdullah and Vereen on IR (and Martin hurt). Rodgers fills in that hole, at least while Martin is out, and Snead is the #4 WR I’ve been looking for given that V-Jax is Officially Done.
I have a family event on Sunday and might not have Internet access, so for the record I will be starting Quizz in Matt Jones’ W/R spot unless Martin plays.
I appreciate what Jules is doing. He was handed a set of players he had no stake or investment in, and he’s turning over half his roster to get guys he chose. He’ll probably feel a lot more connected having a roster of guys that he put there, rather than feeling more like a custodian of a team someone else built. Bravo for making a lot of trades happen to reshape the roster into your own.
Motherfuck. I didn’t realize there was another fucking London game this year. So I waited till now to set my roster and I would’ve started Rob Kelley since Jones was out but the fucking London game started before I was even up. FUCK.
Ellis Dee pulling this out with his whole team on bye would be amazing. Also anyone who beats RNATB is doing good work.
Surprise inactive for Ty Montgomery. Whatever will I do at WR? Oh, I guess I can plug in Demaryius Thomas. Hopefully Nelson gets the extra targets from Montgomery/Cobb being out.
The Kelley mixup only cost me 6 points, not so terrible unless I lose by less than 6.
My whole team is kind of shitting the bed. Plus it’s another week with a pair of RB injuries. I’m going to be seriously short staffed at RB going forwards, and Short of a huge game from Matt Ryan it’s over for this week.
Thanks. That was part of the plan. Some of the guys I got aren’t “my guys,” but they are young and have undeniable upside. I was never going to contend with the roster I had, so really I’m just trying to put together as many guys as possible who are capable of making a leap. I have a lot, lot more of those guys now.
No worries, my team is an automatic win for every other team in the league right now. I’ll have the lowest score in the league for the second week in a row. And I was second lowest three weeks ago.
In three weeks combined, I’ll have maybe three or four skill players even exceed their projection. And out of those, only one will do better than 125% of their projection. I’ve made some start/sit mistakes in there, but it’s a top-to-bottom sustained slump that is season-ending and beyond improbable.
Hey look, I had a good game. It had to happen sometime.
RNATB must be as frustrated watching GB hold the ball all quarter as I am watching Hunter Henry not be able to score a single fucking point to beat him in HHM.
Scoring is still ongoing and this may change but currently our division has 3 of the top 4 overall scores for the year.
One thing I’ll say about FF: It made that Jets-Browns game much more fun to watch, what with me starting both Bilal Powell and Isaiah Crowell who both scored touchdowns.
After those guys both scored I noticed the crawl showing the big games from Kelce (woohoo!) and Crowder, combined with the solid showing by Mariota on Thursday, I figured I might have a chance.
Looks like it’s going to come down to stat corrections tomorrow morning. For right now, with 30 seconds remaining, I’m just hoping the Falcons get the ball back and they trot Ryan out there to kneel down.
EDIT: I got my kneeldown. Scored currently show me up by 3.52. Fingers crossed that it holds up through the morning!
It would take a lot of stat corrections for me to win. Sigh. I just needed one of three running backs to finish his game this week and I would have won. Ware had a concussion, Whizz had a high ankle sprain, and Ingram was inexplicably benched. My season might be over; Ingram is currently my only healthy back.
My team started off slowly and had a big winning streak down the stretch - I hope that’s what’s happening here too, as I had my best week by far.
The sunbelt division is going to be tough. Petey actually has the lead today, but the worst division record at 1-2. RNATB has a better division record, but I’ve caught up to him in score and look like I’ll be scoring from here on out, so I’d have an edge on the wildcard. And I can make a run for the division since if I beat him I’d catch up in division wins.
Petey is actually the highest scorer in the league at the moment and the first to break 1000.
But most of all, we should all point and laugh at what must be the most embarassing loss of the season when RNATB lost to an Ellis Dee team that had more than half his roster on bye.
Well, not really. Ellis’ backups - other than Roethlisberger - are hardly distinguishable from his starters, so it’s not like having everyone on a bye was any great hardship for him. This is actually his 4th-highest score of the season.
In the other corner, my RB depth chart now looks like this:
Spencer Ware (concussion this week, missed most of second half)
Jacquizz Rodgers (ankle, missed end of 4th quarter/OT)
Mark Ingram (healthy, benched after three carries)
Matt Jones (out, knee)
Doug Martin (out, hamstring)
Zach Zenner (active but useless, only picked up due to Abdullah injury)
Ameer Abdullah (on IR since week 3)
Shane Vereen (on IR since week 4)
I don’t think it’s very embarrassing to lose a game because of that. Frustrating as hell, yes. Next week Hamlet and I meet in the IR Bowl.
On the bright side, Martin, Ware and Ingram have all had their byes, so I might be able to muddle through if Martin comes back soon and/or Ware doesn’t miss too much time.
Just in time, I get to add Jamaal Charles to that team. Again.
I think Jamaal Charles and Adrian Peterson at RB, Eric Decker and Keenan Allen at WR, with James Starks at flex would absolutely crush Shane Vereen and Ameer Abudullah, Vincent Jackson and any of your other WR’s. So I’m declaring myself the winner.
Even with Josh Gordon and Martavis Bryant out this year I’ve had a tough time starting all the receivers I want. Every week I have to sit one of Nelson/Thomas/Robinson/Pryor/Montgomery. I wish they’d give Montgomery RB eligibility, but I get why they’re not - position designations can be a big change and the Packers never changed his position on their roster. I wonder if Montgomery is going to permanently become a Dion Lewis style back now. That’d be nice.
