I’m not sure I like the idea of tripling down on the LA Chargers passing game and it’s not really a position of need for me, but he’s the best player available at the spot.
Yeah. I’m not sure I really needed another talented, but injured, Chargers wide receiver. But in a couple years, hopefully he’ll join Amari Cooper and Mike Thomas as a set it and forget it starter for my WR crew.
So I drafted outside the bottom 4 (playoff bracket) for the first time in like 8 years. This was a 5 player draft before the big dropoff, and I was sitting at 1.06. Meh.
Once Ware went down it arguably became a 6 player draft, because Hunt would be given every opportunity to shine. But I still wanted one of the top 5 guys.
McCaffrey was my dude, but I tried to trade up into every 1.01 to 1.04 slot with no interest. When 1.05 rolled around I figured RNATB would probably be kinda forced into taking Hunt because he has Ware and that I’d get Davis, but then I worried that someone else might trade up into the spot and take him. Maybe I was just paranoid, but with three 2nd round picks I decided I was able to trade one away (for a third) to make sure I got one of my top 5 guys.
I actually think Hunt is fine and would’ve been okay with having to pick him if I had to. But I think Corey Davis is far and away the #1 WR in this draft. He’s going into a great situaton with a young and ascending QB with no other clear #1 WR available to him. He’s the most productive college football receiver in history, and he doesn’t come from a gimmick offense and his numbers stay good even against top defenses.
My roster is balanced enough now that I don’t desperately need any position, so I was free to take BPA. That hasn’t been true until last year, when I’ve been kind of RB-desperate for a while. But between Ajayi/Miller/Montgomery/Kelley (even Thompson is a reliable 9 point per week PPR guy if needed in a pinch) I should be able to field 2-3 guys pretty reliably.
So I took the clear #1 WR over what might be the #5 RB.
Only fitting one of my favorite players I picked in our inaugural draft would get taken the pick before mine. I’m headed out the door (sorry, kid stuff), will get my pick in within an hour or two.
I don’t understand this. I’m usually the first to discount rookies over proven producers, but Fournette is close to a can’t-miss prospect and Gurley looked awful last year. He’s also two seasons and one serious knee injury older, and may be no better with McVey than he was with Jeff Fisher.
I’m not saying I value them equally, but I wouldn’t give up the top pick of the second round and Fournette. Last year you could have had Will Fuller, Jordan Howard or Carson Wentz with that pick, to name just a few.
I agree with you, but when I looked up where Gurley was going in startup drafts it looks like people are still really high on him, he’s often at or equal roughly where people would deal the #1 overall pick. So in the general consensus eyes of fantasyland, this trade was reasonably even.
That said, I’m not sure why everyone is so high on 3.2 YPC Gurley, given his situation didn’t change that much.
I guess people value his good season as proof he can be a successful NFL star over a rookie who hasn’t proven anything. If we were talking about WRs with a higher bust rate than top RBs I’d find the trade more understandable, but chances are Fournette will be at least as good as Gurley I think. But then again I drafted Trent Richardson so it’s entirely possible for a can’t-miss RB to miss entirely.
I overpaid, that’s for sure. I think Gurley will be a stud, he’s the bell cow RB and the Rams are finally done with the useless Jeff Fisher and they actually have a decent WR with Watkins. My team sucks, and I’m so weak at RB it isn’t even funny. Fournette could be a stud or he could be the next CJ Spiller or Trent Richardson.
With the 11th pick in the 1st Round, VarlosZ pukes into his cornflakes and selects RB Alvin Kamara, NO, he of the injuries and the behavioral issues and the 1200 rushing yards in college. But, I need to bolster my RBs, simple as that. Now to eat my cornflakes.
Varlos, everything looks good with the keepers as far as I can tell (although I didn’t go and confirm each one). If it is, you’ll want to hit the finalize button so people can better see the free agents available.
