The way everyone here has been drafting trash, I probably would have. My draft reviews are going to be fun. Spoiler: You guys all fucked up.
Well, it was too good to last. My last guy was scooped before I could pick. Thanks, Omni.
I think I gotta take a guy I’m more than willing to cut after week one in case I want to pick up someone else. So, it’s hard to find someone easier to cut than:
5.02 Allen Hurns, WR, Dallas.
I’ll PM Justin
I honestly have no idea who to pick, so let’s go with…
Hayden Hurst TE - BAL
Can someone PM who’s next. I’m on my phone again.
I took Hurns in the new owner draft.
Mother fuckers.
I had 3 guys on my list after my last pick. Hurst, Hines and Chark. I figured I’d get at least 1 and maybe 2 with my final picks. And here I sit with no god damn clue who to take.
I’m seeing a show here tonight and am getting up at the crack of dawn to go to a college game tomorrow. Might not be able to figure out a pick until sometime Sunday. Will do my best to squeeze it in sooner, but no promises. Sorry guys, blame **Justin. **
Hold up, he was already owned.
We can keep Justin’s pick, but you’ll have to do a repick before anyone else makes one.
I blame Jules. If he doesn’t take Goebert I don’t take Hurst.
Edit: Whoops, didn’t see **Omniscient **jump in and thought it was Hamlet. Still, I ruin everything for everyone.
He showed up on the unopened list.
Give me Hayden Hurst instead.
Just kidding.
I’ll take Ricky Seals Jones. Then let me picture Lucille Ball’s TV husband putting an archeologist named after a dog into an envelope.
I guess since my part in the draft is over, I can post my draft self-review. I’ll be doing a league wide team by team review over the next few days, so lots of FREE CONTENT coming for you all!
Draft self-review:
Good lord, I spent too much time on the draft this year. I was very busy. I think the theme of this draft was reaching for exactly what I wanted, and overpaying for exactly what I wanted. Not a winning strategy, and not a sustainable strategy, I admit. But I stashed and hoarded assets for two seasons to be able to overpay this year, and I love what I ended up with. Four 1st round picks is unprecedented. Insane. Since 2013, nobody in this league has had more than two. This is my favorite draft of the three I’ve had in this league, by a mile.
Pick 1.01: Saquon Barkley, RB, NYG
Last year I stacked up at RB in a deep draft, and so I wanted to zag when everyone zigged and stack at WR this year to baalnce the depth on my roster. I wanted to get 3 WRs in the top 18 picks. Then I revamped my grading system for rookies to make it easier for me to find prospects, and Saquon Barkley generated an impossible score. He was already my favorite RB to enter the draft in a while, but this confirmed everything to me. To give you an idea, where a first or second round fantasy rookie would typically score somewhere between 55-75 in my grades, Saquon scored a 94.2 grade. The second highest I’ve seen in the last 4 years was 82.8. So I overpaid dearly to get him, because he has the perfect blend of unbelievable measurables, on-field talent, and opportunity. Even though I was heavy on young RBs, I was light on top-5 fantasy potential at that position. Now I have two guys who can do it.
Pick 1.06: DJ Moore, WR, Car
We’ve all discussed the trade. It’s clear I overpaid a bit, but to me, Moore is in a tier by himself as a prospect. I think James Washington is the best WR in this class, but Moore is such an incredible athlete that he represents a higher upside. The easy comparison is Steve Smith because their games are so similar, but Smith wasn’t as big, and not nearly as good an athlete. Moore also fits Carolina very well in that they don’t have anyone who can make Cam’s job easier the way Moore can. Cam will never be a precision downfield passer, but with Moore, he doesn’t have to be. You can hit him on slants and screens and he’ll give you a ton of YAC. He’ll make Cam’s job easier, and in turn Cam will feed Moore targets.
1.10: James Washington, WR, Pit
The clear best WR in this class in terms of route running, catching in traffic, and downfield chops. A little limited athletically, but he routinely creates enormous separation and pretty much beats anyone and everyone at the catch point. I reached for him, not daring to risk missing out on him at the top of the second round and hating myself for 10 years over it. I think Stefon Diggs is about to break out as a top WR this year, and Washington is eerily like Diggs down to the measurables, route running, and past performance profile. He’ll be a star, I’ll plant my flag on it.
1.11: Anthony Miller, WR, Chi
I really wanted Courtland Sutton here because he has plus athleticism and a nice path to playing time. Once he was gone, I struggled for a while between Miller and Gallup. But Miller is the best of both worlds in terms of upside and opportunity. He’s already snared a large role in Chicago, and I think their new offense will fit Miller so perfectly it has to be kismet.
3.01: Chris Warren III, RB, Oak
Another reach, but I can’t tell how much. He was never drafted in any mock I saw, but I’d rather have him in dynasty than any RB taken in the second round. I know he was undrafted, and I know he ran against backups, but you don’t run 58 times for 291 yards (5.0 YpC) and 2 TDs if you suck, even in preseason. He played his way onto a roster where the starting RB is 32 and on the last year of his deal. The backup is 29, cooked, and not signed beyond this year. Nobody else on the roster is more than a scatback. Warren has really good speed for his size (83rd percentile SPARQ), nifty cuts, has proven it on an NFL field, and has an open path to playing time next season. Pretty damn good stash for a 3rd round pick.
4.02: “Philly” Goedert, TE, Phi
I know what I’m about to say is going to sound like insane homerism. And I want to preface this by being clear that when I say Player A does something like Player B, it does not mean they are on the same level overall. Or even in that trait, necessarily. But Goedert runs routes and uses his body to shield defenders like Gronk, and has hands like Odell Beckham. I haven’t even hit Submit and I already know I will regret that sentence.
Trey Burton is a decent, gadgety TE who is undersized, and yet he still caught 5 TDs last season in the red zone. Goedert is going to be a monster in the red zone. The Eagles run enough 2 TE sets that Goedert will see plenty of work even as a rookie, and I predict they increase their 2 TE set percentage because Goedert has been so good already. You guys all fucked up.
5.01: D.J. Chark, WR, Jax
Upside flyer. Jacksonville has tons of young WRs, but aside from Moncrief (who just never seems to put it together on the field), everyone they have is more suited to underneath and intermediate routes. They don’t have anyone else like Chark, who is a pretty effective downfield bomber. His best-case scenario is Mike Wallace, and they have remarkably similar measurables, except that Chark is taller. I’m very surprised this guy was still on the board. He’s 6’4" with 96th percentile speed. Fingers crossed.

Since 2013, nobody in this league has given up a the #1 scoring QB from the year before, a top 15 WR from each of the past two years, a 24 year old starting RB, a 23 year old starting RB who has been top 15 each of his first two years, a Pro Bowl WR who was top 5 last time he had a full season with his starting QB, two second round picks, another starting RB, and a first round pick for next year.
Four first rounders will do that.
It took a shitload of guts and faith in your draft picks to completely revamp your roster like you did. Huge risk. But huge potential reward.
I’m not sold on Moore, but Barkley seems great, but, again, it’s an issue of cost and risk/reward.
I like him fine, but he’s not the best WR in this class. He runs a great go route, and was extremely productive. But he’s not a great route runner (OSU runs like 4 routes) and he loaded up production against some of the worst defenses in college football. Personally, I had Ridley, Gallup, Moore, and Sutton ranked higher on pure talent. And in Pittsburgh, Washington will be the #3 option at best for a few years. I’d be terrified that, for his entire career, he’ll be feast or famine, DeSean Jackson type who will have 3 or 4 huge games a year, disappear for a few games a year, and you’ll never know when to start him.
Again, I like him fine, but I’m not convinced he’ll be anything more than a reliable slot receiver in the NFL. I think more Randall Cobb/Danny Amendola than Antonio Brown. Maybe he’d be Wes Welker/Julian Edelman, but that would mean he’d probably need a Tom Brady, not a Mitchell Trubisky.
You know who had a 5.4 ypc average in the actual regular season games. DeAndre Washington. For the Raiders in 2016. The guy Warren likely just beat out for the #4 RB spot on the Raiders. Certainly worth a flier, but I think 3.01 is way early for him. No biggie though.
Going into the draft I needed a TE prospect badly. I wish I had spent more time watching tape of him. I was torn between the top rookie TE’s and ended up liking Geisicki more, mostly because of opportunity. In Miami, Geisicki has the opportunity to be the only game in town, especially with the problems they have at WR. In Philly, Goedert isn’t even the best tight end option. Still, a fantastic option in the 4th round and I was surprised he lasted that long. Well done.
Exactly right. Size/speed guy who needs a ton of work, but was well worth a dart throw in the 5th round.
All told, you drafted the clear #1 RB, the #1 drafted WR, two other top 6 rookie WR’s, and some high upside fliers. Pretty damn good draft results.
But the real question is was the cost too high and are you comfortable with the risk/reward. That will be interesting to find out.
I’m back online folks. Appreciate the patience. I will get in a pick shortly.
5.04 Alfred Morris, RB, SF
Looks like I got really lucky with the timing of my delay and the needs of my team. I feel a little better about you snakes taking my guys now.

Draft results have been entered and the season officially started. Make sure to check your rosters and set them for week 1, as we only have a couple days to do so. I have also updated the FAAB budgets for every team as has been done in the past. As a reminder, you get an extra $2 for each slot you finished after 1st last season.
