Last pick is a boring one.
Matt Prater, K, DEN
Sigh. You’re welcome. Had to drop Prater in order to get a 3rd Round pick (with the plan to put Crabtree on IR immediately after the draft to free up the spot for a waiver Kicker). Was hoping Prater would slip through.
Josh Boyce, WR, NE
I’ve watched every UCF game that’s been on TV for several years now, and this isn’t the way I’d describe him at all. He is big, has great straight-line speed, and is pretty patient in setting up his blockers (this is has been a characteristic of UCF backs under O’Leary, all the way back to Kevin F. Smith). He’s an upright size-speed runner in the Dickerson/McFadden mold, and if he gets a head of steam up he’ll run past LBs and through DBs. Good hands, good blocking, and I’d bet he’ll be solid on special teams.
I wouldn’t call him quick, though, and lateral movement is not a strength. If the DL penetrates he’s not going to jump-cut/90 degree turn/spin/juke/whatever.
I guess we disagree on his skill set.

He did run a sub 4.4 at his pro-day, so he is fast/quick depending on your definition of the terms. And by “lateral movement” I was referring to his ability to cutback on a run, not harnessing the ghost of Barry Sanders.
4.4 40 = straightline speed. To me “quick” means basically acceleration; stop/start/change direction. Murray’s shuttle times were meh.
I know what you mean by lateral movement; what I’m saying is that by NFL standards his is mediocre. Even on his highlight reels from his UCF games, you won’t see a lot of “he really faked that guy out.” You do see a lot of “he blew right past them” and “he ran through that arm tackle.”
Doesn’t mean he can’t be effective: there are plenty of good RBs that were mostly one-cut power/speed guys; pretty much every RB that’s as tall as Murray fits that description. In fact, he’s got a pretty similar skillset to DMC, who he’s backing up.
4 RNATB picks and we’re done, looks like. Let’s get this squared away so I can start bragging about projected points.
Steven Haushka, K, Sea
Luke Stocker, TE, Tam
Mart Barkley, QB, Phi
Kenjon Barber, RB, Car
Any idea when the rosters will be updated? I’m sure I’m not the only one looking at possibly picking up a free agent after the last rounds of NFL cuts.

Damn it.

Sounds like Matt Forte.
He’s much taller than Forte, and not as good a receiver. Think Stephen Davis with less bulk and more quicks.
Forte is 6’2" 220, exact same size as Murray’s combine listing.
Wow. Forte doesn’t appear that big on tv.
So after the draft results are entered, we’ll have a 2 day FA/waiver period for unowned players, right? We should get that entered now so the period is over by the first game.
I had no idea either. I thought he was about 5’8".
When can we put in waiver claims?
I guess I have enough draft choices to make a recap worthwhile, so here goes. I needed some running backs and a young quarterback. There weren’t really any QBs worth drafting except Manuel, and I got him. I’m not sure what I have with him but apparently he won the Bills’ job cleanly from Kevin Kolb and looked like an NFL QB in camp. Certainly he has the physical tools. Barkley is nothing more than a flier, since there are two guys ahead of him for playing time.
Bernard is obviously the best fantasy player available in this draft and I was thrilled when Ellis passed on him for Tayvon Austin. He runs, catches, and appears to be the Bengals’ goal line back already. He’s tied to a plus offense but not one that throws the ball all the time. He won’t see the ball 300 times as a rookie, so he won’t be run into the ground. Basically, he’s someone I can rebuild my team around.
Taylor and Barner, conversely, may never amount to anything. Taylor has an easier road to a starting spot but he’s apparently a plodder. Barner, conversely, is a home run hitter, but he’s barely bigger than Darren Sproles and might never be more than a third down back.
Redman is just there to fill the flex spot during the first half of the season, and maybe to trade to LeVion Bell’s owner for a prospect when he comes back.
Stocker is an intriguing prospect. He’s been the Buccaneers’ #2 TE for his first two years, and has mostly been a blocker. TEs rarely catch on early at this level, so minimal production over his first two seasons isn’t a concern. What’s important is that he’s now starting in an offense that needs someone to exploit the middle of the field. The Bucs don’t have a good slot receiver so a TE is a good bet.
I needed a kicker with Connor Barth on IR, and Hauschka plays for a good-but-not-great offense. The worry is the conditions at Qwest Field, or whatever it’s called now, but I can always swap him out.
Afterthoughts: I needed to refill my running back corps and I’m not sure I was able to as well and I’d hoped. With Retro and Petey picking ahead of me, and both having the same need, I got to lick the plate after they picked all the good guys off.
But all my guys had good preseasons, and nearly everyone is in the backup role on their respective teams (I think Glennon is officially #3, but it’s not for long). Brees likes to spread the ball around, so Stills may even see some decent numbers this year. Andre Ellington was a flier, but you never know what the Cardinals RB position will look like from week-to-week. Randle has shown some promise, but I was too late to get Eddie Lacy and I thought the first round was too early to take Knile Davis, a guy I really wanted.
