SDMB FF Dynasty League: Year Five

Ok, the draft results are entered, and waiver claims should be processed before Thursday night’s opener. I apologize for the delay (details here, if you care to read them).

I think I had a really good draft! Hopkins and (especially) Ertz were steals, going later than they should have (later than normally go, anyway), and even if Hopkins didn’t exactly fill a need, Ertz did. Zac Stacy isn’t exactly gangbusters, and was largely taken b/c I needed to come out of the draft with a RB, but: 1) I don’t think there’s all that much difference between him and, say, Christine Michael (taken with the 8th overall pick instead of the 20th), while there’s a big dropoff in my mind between Stacy and all the remaining RBs.

AND, in the process, I get the right to swap 2nd Rounder with Omni in next year’s draft. Nice.

What the hell, I can do a quick recap. I should be working, what’s another 15 minutes wasted?

Omniscient
1.8 (8): Christine Michael, RB, Sea
2.7 (19): Terrelle Pryor, QB, Oak
3.8 (32): Aaron Dobson, WR, NE
4.5 (40): Matt Prater, K, Den

Omni gives 13-2.8 & 14-2 for Varlos’ 13-2.7 & 14-2 (Option)

So I was extremely pumped to get Michael with my first rounder. I had basically the asshole of draft slots this year and was fortunate that a few other players decided to be “unconventional”. As with most teams RB is a constant uphill battle in this format and my team was particularly barren when I inherited it a couple years back. Had I been forced to grab another WR in the first round I’d have been in bad shape. It’s just the preseason, but Michael looked incredible when he was out there and Lynch is no spring chicken. He was my #2 prospect and I got him at 8, very fired up.

The Pryor pick was either crazy or crazy smart. I thought he’d be a hot commodity this year in this league, looking around there are a lot of teams in dire shape at QB behind their aging starter. Pryor will probably suck balls, but he had a half of good football in the preseason, has little competition in Oakland and is the defacto starter and looks similar to the new batch of young starting QBs on paper. I probably will regret trading up a spot to get him since he apparently wasn’t on anyone’s list, but from a position-value standpoint he was clearly the best option. Odds are with Luck I’ll never use him, but if he’s a poor-man’s Kaepernick someone will want him I think. Sudfeld and Woods might have been option here instead of Pryor, but again, QBs are sparse.

Very pumped about the Dobson pick, strong chance I would have taken him in the second round if Pryor wouldn’t have been the pick so I consider this a steal. Sure Thompkins looks like the guy out of camp right now, but Dobson was a 2nd rounder and has the makings of a stud. Who knows with Brady and Belichick, but if Thompkins is nothing but a flash in the pan it’s Dobson that has the best chance at being the #1 in New England.

I didn’t have a kicker and a top 3 guy was available. Awesome.

Some picks I liked from other players (nice job furt!).

Giovanni Bernard - Great pick and I think he’ll be a star, he’s being over drafted in re-draft leagues but in dynasty he’d have been my top pick.

DeAndre Hopkins - It’s mostly situational, but I think he’'s an awesome value. Johnson will crater one day soon and Hopkins is expected to be the #1. Unlike Tavon Austin he’s a traditional NFL WR which makes him safer in my view.

Marcus Lattimore - Yes, yes, yes. He’'s got a long road back but with Gore gathering moss and Harbaugh in for the long haul this guy should be the future at RB there with hyper-elite upside.

Kenny Stills - Same as Hopkins, but replace Johnson with Colston. Brees and Payton aren’t going to stop slinging it any time soon.

Robert Woods - I just think he’'s really good. The Bills are a bit of a wasteland for fantasy players and who knows with EJ Manuel, but Woods seems to “get it”.

Chris Polk - Really nice value. If he were anywhere besides the Eagles I’d love him, but even still I think he’s a good value where you got him. Brown is a stud and will probably keep Polk from being a steal, but you never know.

Julius Thomas - Kind of a shock he lasted as long as he did. He might be Peyton’s #1 TE all season, and Peyton loves him some TEs. I almost grabbed him with my Dobson pick, but ultimately Peyton’s mortality and my current young TEs knocked him down a peg.

Marcus Wheaton is listed on my roster, should be moved to Stringer for Jay Cutler.

I don’t normally try to cross post about leagues in different threads, but I had 2 last minute cancellations in the big league and I need replacements quickly. Draft is tonight at 8:45 eastern, but you probably have to join the league an hour before then. The league is really interesting - 20 teams spreads the talent really thin, it’s definitely fun. If you’re interested PM me your e-mail and I’ll send out the invite - be at your computer this afternoon.

With Andre Brown officially going on the IR-designated to return list, I want to put him on IR and pick up another player for my roster. However, yahoo won’t let me.

Is it a matter of timing (he just went on IR today) or a matter of settings? How do I get this taken care of? Didn’t we agree IR/DTR counted as IR?

Yahoo! doesn’t count it as IR.

I’m not so sure about that. This page seems to suggest that they’ve taken the short-term IR into account; that a player with such a real-life designation can be placed on IR in Yahoo, then left there or not at the owner’s discretion when he returns.

I’m fairly certain that a player didn’t need to be on real-life IR last year, and I’m sorry to see that they’ve changed it (especially since Michael Crabtree is just on the PUP list, apparently). For now, give it a wait and see if he hits IR in Yahoo. In any event, I certainly hope they get this sorted out, since manually running our IR slots would be a big pain in the ass.

Our schedule is set, which (I think) was the last bit of housekeeping that needed to be done. Same as in previous years: “Everyone will play their first three divisional games during the first half of the season, most within the first five weeks. Everyone plays a divisional game in Week 1. In Weeks 8-11 there are no divisional games: everyone hits the road. Finally, the last three weeks are entirely intra-divisional.” And, as before, the final week features matchups between the top two teams in each division from last year.

Would anyone be interested in front-loading the first round of divisional games, so that Weeks 1-3 are entirely divisional matchups, just like Weeks 12-14?

I like everything you’ve been doing with the schedule over the years, so consider me a vote in favor of anything you want to try.

I think I like this.

Also quoting this for new page since it’s not done yet:

Trade is processed.

Predraft analysis:

My team is the best.

Also, my team is the youngest team in the league with an average of 3.6 years in the league. The makings of a dynasty.

Also, Hamlet may now be my main competition for the league, not Stringer.

If you want to, go for it. Although I do like having one or two extra-divisional matchups mixed in with the early divisional matchups.

With Percy Harvin, Aaron Brown, DuJuan Harris, and RGIII on my team, I’m not as optimistic as I could be. If RGIII goes down again, I could be starting Phillip Rivers, which won’t win me any championships.

I won HHM with Rivers last year. I was platooning him with Freeman, though.

I recently discovered LeSean McCoy was only 25. I thought he was 27. Seems like he’s been around forever, but I guess he was a really young rookie. My team is crazy young for how good it is. Aaron Rodgers is the old man at 29, and there’s no reason he can’t play another 8 years. Well, Lance Moore is 30, but hardly a key component. Pretty much everyone else on my team is extremely young. Less than 4 years nfl experience on average. My team is both capable of winning now, and still young and growing. Hasn’t peaked yet.

Teehee Isaac Redman.

So hey, I have some tight ends up for trade.

Bah. Even Anquan Boldin remembering he’s Anquan Boldin isn’t going to save me.
