SDMB FF Dynasty League: Year Five

Agreed on the no trade deadline and the “Go Niners!” I just need 0.63 points from Frank Gore and Anquan Boldin to officially clinch a playoff spot.

I don’t see the point of a trade deadline in this format.

Now, who wants to trade me a stud wideout? I have running backs. Many running backs.

Woops, not sure how I missed that.

Because they play for the Washington Professional Football Team. Easy to miss them until they’re down by 24 in the fourth quarter and the defense is playing half-hearted prevent.

Wow, Hamlet’s game coming right down to the wire. I thought he’d win easily tonight.

… and I think he just lost it with that failed 4th down conversion.

The division winner of the middle division doesn’t matter to me, but it just occurred to me that this slightly makes things worse. Hamlet has a 40 point edge on total scoring, which means that if Stringer does win the division, Hamlet will give me a tougher time for the wildcard tiebreaker. So I actually probably wanted Hamlet to win, although it probably won’t matter.

I really need to win my division. If I can win out, I’ll do that. The final week of the season is going to be huge. Varlos has a full game lead on the wildcard, but if he loses either of the last two games, and I win both, I beat him easily in tiebreaker score.

That’s a pretty great loss for me. First, it means that if I finish 1-1 in the last two weeks, I’m guaranteed to finish ahead of the 2nd place team from the Midwest division, and I’d only be vulnerable to SenorBeef. Second, it keeps alive the possibility that **Omni **will finish outside of the consolation bracket, which would increase the value of his 2014 2nd Rounder (which belongs to me).

Also, I wonder if it says anything about the state of the league that there’s a strong possibility that someone (me) will finish at 9-5 but miss the playoffs. That would be a first (six out of ten 8-6 teams we’ve had have gotten in).

Welcome to Playofftown, Population: Me

Other Playoff Implications:

[ul]
[li]Varlos locks up the wild card with a single win either this weekend or the next.[/li][li]SenorBeef cannot win the wild card unless Varlos AND (Stringer OR Hamlet) goes 0-2. His most likely path to the playoffs requires going 2-0 in the next two weeks, which would give him the Sunbelt division.[/li][li]But Hamlet and Stringer control their own destiny as whoever wins their Week 14 matchup wins the division. The loser will likely not have enough points to win a wild card tiebreaker unless Varlos and SenorBeef go 0-2.[/li][/ul]

A loss by half a point thanks to total suckage by RGIII. sigh.

Would that it were so! Unless I’m missing something, If I go 1-1 while **Beef **goes 2-0, he’ll get the wild card, and I’ll miss the playoffs at 9-5, unless I somehow make up an 87 point gap in the process…

No, wait, I am missing something! If **Beef **goes 2-0, that means he has to beat Petey and will win the Sun Belt division, which means I’ll be up against **Petey **and not **Beef **for the wild card, in which case I’ve got a 77-point advantage right now instead of an 87-point disadvantage. So, a 1-1 record probably *does *get me into the playoffs – sweet!

(Of course, I’ve already lost to **Ellis **once this year, and of course **Justin **has got a very good team so that’s a lose-able game. Still work to be done.)

I was thrown off at first by “win the wildcard” and I was thinking in terms of “makes the playoffs” - interesting. I control my own destiny, which is a good feeling to have, but that last game with Petey is projected to be tough. Save me Aaron Rodgers.

Woops, double post.

You’re going to lose to me this week. I love my draft picks for next year, but I’m playing to win in every match up for this season.

Agh! I picked up Detroit specifically for this week but my mobile app Apparently didn’t get the message. Does anyone object to fixing that?

I object to after the game changes. If they scored negative points, you wouldn’t have said anything.

As much as I think the members of this league are honest people, I tend to agree with Petey.

Sure I would. You can check the transaction log: i picked them up specifically for this game. But that’s fine.

I’m happy to make changes like this when possible, and of course I have no doubt that **RNATB *is telling the truth. Furthermore, if he’d picked up Detroit because his only other DEF was on bye (so his options were Detroit or nothing), I would have gone ahead and made the change on my own discretion barring a total upheaval from the rest of the league. But, unfortunately, **RNATB **has Houston’s DEF slotted in, and they’re active this week, so I really don’t think we can justify retro-fixing in this case. Sorry.

  • –> It’s perhaps worth noting, in the interests of disclosure, that I’m facing this exact situation (bye week, newly acquired DEF not started) in the He Hate Me league.

I guess it doesn’t matter to me that much anyway because at this point all I can do with a win is mess up my draft position.
