Fucking tell me about it. After McGahee got hurt, all the Denver coaches could talk about was how Ronnie Hillman was the starter and Lance Ball would be his backup.
Then… at like 8 in the morning on a fucking Sunday… they announce that Moreno is the starter. Why? He wasn’t even in uniform over the last two months and now they make him the starter literally hours before kickoff and after days of saying “Hillman is the starter.” And then he rips off 13 points! Which is way more than should-be castoff Brandon LaFell will put up tomorrow.
Injuries have killed my team this year and its making me crazy.
The other thing is that I’m absolutely terrible at giving up on any of “my” players. I was digging through the free agent pool when both Danario Alexander and Mohammed Sanu were available for $0 and I didn’t grab either one because I didn’t want to drop any of my current players.
At least Jacoby Jones was a halfway decent pickup.
LaFell! LaFell! LaFell! Sorry Varlos, I pretty much had no right to win our matchup, but I’ll certainly take it.
So the playoff picture looks like this…
Beef and his Exploding Pancakes have clinched the Sunbelt division while my Gusterrhoids remain atop the Northeast Corridor with an 8-4 record (3-1 divisional and 1467.91 points).
Furt’s Fightin’ Quakers are right behind me with an identical 8-4 record (including 3-1 in-division). I own the points tiebreaker though as furt has 1278.5 points. This puts furt firmly in the wild card slot.
At 6-6, Hamlet and Varlos are the only remaining wild card contenders. Hamlet has a slight edge in the points tiebreaker, 1477.54 to 1451.14.
Stringer and I have worked out a trade. I think he’d like it to go through before the start of games Sunday, so he can kick whoever’s ass he is playing this weekend.
Me trading for QBs late in the year is becoming a tradition in this league (Favre, Vick and now Stafford.) I am not crazy at all about helping Hamlet’s team (one of the top 3 teams in this league talentwise, and in my division), but hopefully my bad QB saga is over. My RB depth takes a huge hit, but my title window is probably open for only 2 more years so I gotta go for it when I have the chance.
I will miss Jamaal Charles, he’s been on my team since the inaugural draft and he’s one of my favorite players. Gonna be weird seeing him play against me this week. And yeah if VarlosZ could push this trade through before Sunday that’d be great!
I processed the trade manually. I’m thinking next year I’ll just follow Beef’s lead and set trades to simple Commish approval.
Potential rules changes to discuss this offseason:
– Commish approval of trades instead of voting.
– KR/PR touchdowns counting for DEF/ST
– Trading of future draft picks.
Anyway, if the deal was Stafford for Charles, I guess my offer of Matt Ryan plus other stuff for Ray Rice never had a chance.
Man, no one ever wants to give up one big piece for multiple smaller pieces – has one of those trades ever happened in this league? I wonder if there might be an opportunity to sell of superstars like this at a profit, especially for weaker/rebuilding teams.
Those types of trades are hard to stomach for a team in my position. I wanted to leave my starting lineup as intact as possible while upgrading QB. If I was rebuilding, 5-quarters-for-a-dollar trades are the way to go.
Not the commish for this league, but since the trade is still pending and I think Varlos intended to make it go through, it would be good to clearly state how you’d change your rosters if it did go through so he can fix it retroactively.
I think in the past when I’ve done this, the trade stayed pending after manually putting it through, then effectively evaporated when the review period was over. Should be all good as long as lineups are set for this weekend.
