SDMB FF Dynasty League: Year Six

Blech, tough week. Three of my players left their games early with injuries, and my WRs are going to be outscored by their counterparts for the first time this season.

Next week vs. **RetroVertigo **is an absolute must-win for me. I’ll be sitting at 2-3 with games against **Hamlet **and **Stringer **on deck.

I’m super pumped that Jennings went out with a knee sprain.

Gonna be close. Bernard and Vereen are doing okay but Edelman is doing nothing. Can’t believe it took the Bengals 24 minutes to figure out the could run the ball on New England.

Figure I need at least another 10 points to have a reasonable shot at Hauschka winning the game for me tomorrow.

You probably have nothing to worry about.

Supposedly he won’t be missing more than a game or two. But I chuckled (evilly) when I saw that he was out. If it makes you feel any better, Martellus Bennett did almost nothing this week (though PT Bruiser went off).

I need 5.25 points, which seems pretty reasonable. I’d prefer for him to score 15 to keep me somewhat competitive in the total points tiebreaker. Is head-to-head record the primary tiebreaker for division championships?

Division record is the tiebreaker in division lead. Not sure what the second tiebreaker is - I would guess score because IIRC yahoo doesn’t really evaluate head to head.

I’m almost over with the rough patch of my schedule. I get Justin Bailey next week, but then after that a relatively easy patch with 3 or the lowest 4 scorers. But you never know when someone is due for a big game. Still, the league seems wide open with all these 3-2 teams.

You get me without Brees. Andy Dalton has been doing OK this year, but 20 points is his ceiling. Good luck, I’m going to need it.

Agh! Reverse jinx – get it off me! Get it off!

ahhh

MOTHER. FUCKER.

That is all.

Marshawn Lynch, I freakin love you man.

Congrats.

I’m still reeling from your 0.55 point playoff win over me in 2012.

I’m looking to trade for a serviceable QB to back up (or maybe platoon with) Foles. I have RBs and draft picks galore (though you’re not getting a first round pick for anyone but a top 12 guy.)

Speaking of previous drafts, what happened to Doug Martin? He would have clearly been a better pick for me than David Wilson, but geez, looking at his numbers, was he just a one-season wonder?

Nah. The Buccaneers had the best interior offensive line in the league in 2012 and a decent passing game. Over the past two years the team inexplicably released Davin Joseph, the best run blocker in the league*; lost Carl Nicks to a career-ending toe injury; and, traded Jeremy Zuttah to the Ravens. We also replaced both starting tackles this year.

The long and short of it is that he’s playing behind five new starters on the OL, including one (Mankins) who only got his first playbook during Week 1 practices. He’s also now playing for an interim offensive coordinator who doesn’t realize he needs to be the focal point of the offence and gives up on the run midway through the second quarter. Martin will be fine long term, I think.

In other news, I have drafted horribly in this league but more importantly I’ve done a bad job of holding on to talent. For example, I traded for Ben Tate in 2011 but dropped him later on. The flip side of that is that I’ve done okay in free agency, which is surprising for this format; Julian Edelman, Jordan Reed, Rashad Jennings and Danny Woodhead were all FA adds (not that Reed has ever actually done a damn thing for me.)

*Joseph was admittedly hurt for nearly all of the 2012 season so his loss doesn’t factor into Martin’s struggles.

I think we disagreed about Martin when he came out in the draft. After his rookie year, it certainly looked like you were right, but since then, he’s been sub-average. So we’re both got ammo on our side.

I think his rookie season was the product not of his skill, but of stellar blocking gaping holes, and some poor tackling. I think his dropoff after that is who he really is, not the rookie season where he had an All Pro rush block offensive line. I submit that the fact that Mike James and Bobby Rainey both either outperform or at the very least equal Martin’s production shows that Martin is not all that special of a running back.

As a guy who continues to start and get carries (inexplicably to me, of course) over his backups, he certainly has fantasy value. But I no longer see him as having a chance of ever regaining his rookie form.

YMMV, of course.

Actually, I wasn’t a fan of Martin when he came out. I think you’re thinking of Josh Freeman, who I was clearly wrong about. I would be happy to trade for Martin right now if Varlos had the RB depth to let him go.

Martin went from being healthy and in a good situation to banged-up and in a lousy one. The relative success of his backups can be greatly overstated: Mike James had one good game last year; Bobby Rainey was mediocre last year, and has had one good game this year. A straight read of their YPC averages over small sample sizes is a little misleading.

I’m pretty sure Martin’s “true” level is somewhere in between his rookie season and what’s come since, but closer to the former. More distressing are the injuries, and the fact that even if a player’s struggles are due to the offense around him, that doesn’t protect them other players on the depth chart.
