Nice draft. For as shitty as some autodrafts can go, I think VarlosZ doesn’t have a bad team. Rice, McFadden, Green, White, Nelson, Smith, and Lloyd is a pretty good starting crew. His bench sucks, and carrying a backup kicker and 3 defense may be troubling, but it didn’t kill him as much as it could have.
Well that was fun - fast drafts are a good time. You guys enjoy yourself on ventrillo? Sorry I didn’t join - it seriously threw me off when I had it going during the All Star draft. I miss the text chat of previous years.
There is only so much witty banter that one can take. Luckily, I’m both interesting and funny both on ventrillo and in text, so I have that going for me.
So, what’s it going to take to claw Aaron Rodgers from your cold, hopefully only mildly injured but feeling much better, hand?
I was toying with the idea of doing a draft review, but there’s just so damn many players on each team, and the starting rosters so deep, it’s almost nonsensical to try and do it.
But there were a few things that grabbed my attention:
I think Matt Forte in the second round, 10th pick, was a big reach. With Adrian Peterson, MJD, DeMarco Murray, Julio Jones, and Larry Fitz out there and Michael Bush taking goal line carries and some work, I don’t think Forte is the 10th best player out there.
Jordy Nelson in the 9th round was nice value, especially considering Greg Jennings’ injury. Nice pick autodraft!
I think this format, with so many starting spots, means that high scoring but inconsistent guys like Torrey Smith, DeSean Jackson, and Vincent Jackson might be worth more. But I’m not sure.
I sure hope Fred Jackson gets healthy. I liked getting him in the 14th round.
I have no idea how this kind of league will work out. Should be interesting to see.
Boy is this ever the wrong draft to sleep through. Fuck, this is so embarrassing. I’m really sorry, guys. I didn’t know if anyone would want to redo the draft (since one person’s missing the draft is a big chunk of the picks) but of course we shouldn’t do it on my account.
So who else is new to the league? Just me and Hamlet?
I thought of a recap as well, but it’s pointless. “Here’s a giant pile of awesome players I’d be happy with in a regular league!” I was pretty surprised at how easy it was to fill my starting slots, even with the massively inflated rosters. I took some risks (Welker after his terrible Week 1, Kenny Britt and his ACL/Character of Questionable Integrity, Ryan Mathews, etc.), but backed nearly all of them up with the appropriate handcuff. That doesn’t leave me a ton of room for lottery picks to explode, but I like my position of stability.
I thought picking first would suck, as I’d have been happy with any of the top 3 QBs. But being on the corner is a huge advantage, as I was able to keep at the front of any runs. Having half of the top 6 QBs in scoring last year is going to be a huge advantage (though I suspect Manning may not quite crack that this year). I’m slightly worried about Gronk and Welker having huge steps backwards, but I got Welker at a great discount last night, regardless of how shitty his first week was. He can still catch, and he’ll be utilized.
That new recap feature that I thought was so cool last week is a pain in the ass. I swear to God the yahoo computers are smirking at me when they put in:
“Super Hamlet would have beaten every other team in the league besides Potent Potables this week.”
and
“With 274.44 points, Super Hamlet had the highest losing score in the league this week.”
and
“The margin of victory for the matchup ended up being the smallest in the league this week at 21.74 points.”
I’m beginning to realize that fantasy football is my Lucy and her football.
If the computer doesn’t handle it, I can do a manual Super Hamlet Regret Tracker. For instance, in the dynasty league, Hamlet would’ve only had to have started RG3 to have won…
Anyone interested in buying Fitzpatrick as a QB3? He’s currently the 11th place scorer, which is QB2 starter quality in this league. I’ll listen to any WR/RB/TE offers.
This kind of league is interesting because your week to week decision making (which has never been my strong suit) isn’t about the top of your roster guys, it’s about flex guys, guys you shouldn’t be in your starting lineup in a regular league. In most of my other leagues, setting the lineup isn’t too difficult, you play your studs and maybe have one or two tough calls between comparable players. In this league, that decision isn’t between Steven Jackson or Michael Turner or Peyton Manning or Phillip Rivers, it’s lower end guys like Donnie Avery or Andrew Hawkins or Fred Jackson or Donald Brown.
It’s also kinda cool that the league has no undefeated teams and no teams without a win. I’m not sure that kind of parity can continue, but we will see.
