SDMB Monthly Photo Competition - rolling discussion thread

For what it’s worth, it does up fine for me

Just to add another data point, it shows up fine for me as well.

That’s what I get too. Lol I was trying different pics to load now I don’t remember which one. Might be a picture thru the trees of pink clouds reflected in the water? :woman_shrugging:

That describes it pretty well.

Got it! It loads on my phone but not my (cough) work computer.

That sometimes happens on my work computer as well. It seems like the firewall blocks some photo sharing sites, but allows others.

Interestingly I’m actually on my work computer now, and I can see @chela’s photo. So it must be hosted on one of the sites our IT department whitelisted.

And that’s it for another month… well done everyone. Treemendous.

Poll is open, in the competition thread as usual.

And while we are waiting for the voting, a few more trees, which I just took recently but didn’t have available for the competition. Click for full size:

Quick reminder that voting closes tomorrow evening (UK time) - just over 24 hours from now.

And that’s it for voting. Congrats to @Turek for (yet another) win! As always, send me a DM with your choice of subject for the next one (and as always, there’s guidance in the first post of this thread as to what makes a good subject, should you need it).

It was another strong month with plenty of great shots. Well done once again, @Turek :grinning:

Congrats @Turek! You are now the official SDMB photographer. This is an unpaid position, but think about what it can do for your portfolio!

Hi everyone. The theme for November is “cold” chosen by @Turek.

I’ll set the official thread up this evening.

I’m used to working “for exposure”. But it should at least come with jack boots or a mug!

Hi everyone. The next competition thread is up.

Speaking as the thread’s North of England correspondent, it’s an appropriate topic!

Speaking as a Floridian, it’s gonna be a tough month!

Cold is a relative concept. And if everything else fails, there is always ice cream.

If you are willing to shoot to the brief and be creative, it can still work. Think of ways to use ice, freezing stuff and taking pictures of the result, using un-defrosted freezers as a backdrop, etc.

Some cool outdoor stuff can be taken early in the morning when it’s chilly and steam is rising from people, animals, cars, a hot drink, etc. A good picture of a bird all poofed out can demonstrate cold without having any snow, ice, etc. in the pic at all.

As a Californian I had that same thought, although I was reminded of that famous quote misattributed to Mark Twain about summer in San Francisco. Except I don’t think I have any really good pictures of San Francisco.

I do, however, have some glacier pictures in my archives that might work.

True, I can go to the archives, but I’ll try not to.

OK, South East England isn’t Florida, but I feel like we’re in the same boat here…

I just posted (photo taken just over an hour ago). I barely managed “chilly” - but it’s the best I’m going to do.
