What are you talking about, Sultan garius? My plans are so secret, even I don’t know about them!
Oh, and the deadline for the fall is Wednesday, right?
Autumn orders are due this Wednesday at 1 pm, CST (or 19:00 London, 20:00 CET). When your fall happens is yet to be determined. Perhaps Providence, plus a nice payment to my numbered account, shall stay Fate’s cruel hand.
Sigh
You try so hard to keep things straight, and the one non-noob player goes and undermines you.
Autumn 1902 orders are due Wednesday at Noon CST.
Quick question for all y’all Dippers, that’s not about -GRY.
Can a unit voluntarily disband without being dislodged? If so, when can it do this?
The rulebook doesn’t say “yea” or “nay” to the issue.
No it can’t, though I wouldn’t be shocked if there were variations created to allow it somehwere. Traditionally a unit may only disband when dislodged or when it exceeds the number of SCs to support it.
A common way around that is to have your ally attack your territory with the unit you don’t want.
eg. Russia and Turkey ally, and need to get rid of Russia’s Black Sea fleet, both to keep the peace and to get it where it’s useful. Russia could move the fleet into Con in the spring, and Turkey attacks it with support in the fall. The fleet just retreats off the board, and can be rebuild as an army or northern fleet in the winter.
I think I’d like a variant where you could freely disband units.
Thanks, y’all.
Actually, Abe Babe, a Russian fleet in Sevestapol is exactly what I want to change. Good guess.
I asked the exact same question in one of these threads. I think it’d make the game more interesting; you’d be able to leave your home area almost defenseless and then just disband and build new whenever someone was threatening.
I’ve found that the game is complicated enough without it, though.
Tell you what…once I free up some game space I’ll run one of the weirder variants for you guys.
How’s that?
count me in - get the feeling i may become addicted to this diplomacy thing.
Heh heh heh
I may get in too.
Add another “heh” to your collection, Jonathan.
its the girlfriend i feel sorry for. I only answer to “The Sultan” these days.
and Soupo there is a Russian unit i’d quite happily disband too…
I’ve been wanting to run a Sail Ho game (4 player, different map, more focus on fleet action) lately. It’d probably be a more quick and dirty game than standard. If anyone’s interested, drop me a line.
You guys want to get really far out there on varients, check out the post-modern game I’m in here. It’s a fairly straightforward post-modern varient, but with one big difference-Wings, a new type of unit that functions as an air force. This game uses completely new wing rules, making them vastly more versitile than wings as originally designed. You can find all of the wing rules here.
At that point, why not just play Axis & Allies?
I am being outDipped by some top-class Dips, I think.
Just remember this:
But Mademoisele, have no fear. Your strong and virile Russian ally will always …
What?
Why are you all laughing?
In re: another game, I think I may need another real game or two under my belt before I play a varient. I’m loving this, even though I’m getting kicked my Borscht kicked.
[icy cold and superior]
Diplomacy is about strategy and relationships. A&A? Psshaw! That’s all just tactics.
[/icy cold and superior]
[sub]Am I right? I’ve never played Axis and Allies, but I get the impression it’s a more typical “wargame”[/sub]
