However, I don’t think I own anything multiplayer other than TF2. Happy to play that any time.
Tomorrow (Friday) I’m going to organize a game starting around 4:30-5 pacific. I’ll feel what the general pulse is at the time, but probably Natural Selection 2 if everyone is down for it. And probably later, when we’re good and drunk, we’ll move on to Chivalry. So have those installed and set up if you want to join us.
Anyone playing DOTA 2?
chowching - I played a bunch this past summer when I had more free time, but the games are long enough that I haven’t been playing lately. However, if we got a SDMB team of some kind together, I’d absolutely be in for a few games a week. I am solid-average - pros and “pros” alike would probably get frustrated with my occasional mistake, but I’m pretty good at last hitting, I get basic lane mechanics, and I can play about 75% of the heroes at a non-tragic level.
I haven’t played in months, but I would absolutely be down for playing if we could get a team together.
Five average players who can communicate on mumble have a huge advantage in a public game over five randoms.
DOTA isn’t a great game for us to play together, our skill gaps are way too wide and the game isn’t very tolerant of that at all. It would be an exercise in frustration most of the time I think. I mean - if you can find some people at the same level, great. But it’s not a casual-friendly game at all, and it’s not tolerant of people of significantly different skill levels playing together.
So Planetside 2 (thread) received a big optimization rework a couple of months ago that increased framerate 50-100%, a huge boost. It’s drawn a lot of people back to the game, and some new players, and the server we play on, Connery, is the biggest server and some people are migrating it to be part of the big battles. It’s a free to play game that’s really fair to non-paying players, so it’s worth a try.
Well, it’s been really busy/full lately. I just logged on tonight and there was a short wait on all 3 continents, meaning they were full - meaning that 5000+ players were on the server at the time. There were big battles everywhere, even on the lesser used continents. It’s a second boom for the game, and I definitely would like to start playing again.
I’m going to try to organize a group on early Friday evening. So if you’re interested, or you played before but not lately, install or update the game and join us. If you’re new we’ll guide you through it.

I started PS2 downloading last night but then forgot about it and turned off my computer. I’ll finish it up sometime this evening, but I don’t know if I’ll be around for the festivities on Friday.
Well PS2 apparently is having issues with servers being down after the patch today. We’re going to go play some NS2 or chivalry or something until later when PS2 is hopefully back up.

We’ve been playing a lot of War Thunder lately, which is a multiplayer air combat arena sim, free to play. You can only play with 4 people in a squad at a time, so it’s not a game we can play in mass, but we pretty regularly get 4 players together. Try it out if you’re interested.
For tonight, they reworked Amerish for Planetside 2 and the reviews are positive, so we’re going to give that a try. Patch up PS2 if you want in. After that we’ll probably play some Chivalry as we usually do on Friday nights, maybe some Natural Selection 2.
If you play War Thunder, you should play over the next few hours. Your 2nd, 5th, and 7th victory give 100 gold (premium) lions. At least I think it’s now - it says 0200 GMT on the 9th, which I think starts in about 10 minutes. 4 hour window, and then another one in a few hours. We’ll be playing some tonight, and possibly other stuff later.
Anyone picking up Titanfall?
I’m not going to be around for most of the weekend, but Payday 2 is having a free weekend, and I wanted to give it a try. Big download (28gb) so start early if you want to give it a go.
I’m going to be organizing some Dirt 2 games this weekend and in the coming weeks. It’s unfortunately a games for windows live game, and GFWL is shutting down in a couple of months, so the multiplayer will become inactive at that point. So if we want to play again, we’ll have to do it before then.
Steam stopped selling the game (and other GFWL-dependent games) for that reason, so you can’t even buy it there anymore. If you were really interested, you could grab it off greenman or something.
Anyway, it’s a ton of fun, we played it a whole lot a few years ago. It’s a rally racer with 8 player multiplayer that straddles the line between sim and casual very well. Maybe you used to play with us, maybe you bought it for $5 during a sale sometime and never played it, whatever. Come play with us now, it’ll be fun.
So if you’ve got it, install it this week and I’ll try to organize something over the weekend when people are around. Add me on steam if you don’t already have me on it.
