A reflective egret, also from this weekend:

Pretty stuff!

Took this nice one in Botswana recently:

OMG! Amazing.

Lake Michigan sunset.

When you live by Lake Michigan, you end up with a lot of these.

Chinese lantern festival earlier this month (click for larger photo):

One from today:

Up through the trees.

Sunset over the Straits of Mackinac (the Mackinac Bridge can just be seen in the lower left corner):

This is the thread for competition photos that didn’t quite make the cut, right? I got a couple.

An isolated shower (Worthing, West Sussex). Didn’t work as well as I wanted because it’s a struggle to see three kite surfers and a wind farm.

Dulwich sunset. Not bad, but the bar for that sort of photo has been set real high. (See above, for example).

Google Photos

As they’re on google photos, you need to click on them for the full image, but neither has been badly cropped.

For the skies theme I was waffling between this one and
the one I posted:

Imgur

I considered using this for “skies” but had to go with the lightning photo since it’s the luckiest shot I’ve ever taken.
Skylight

Here are the other photos I was considering submitting for the “skies” theme. A big reason I went with the one I did instead was because so many other people submitted sunset/sunrise photos, and I figured mine wouldn’t make the cut. Going with an aviation photo instead was something of a strategic decision to use something different that might stand out from the crowd.

My other contenders:

Santorini, Greece, 2019.

Imgur

Classic Serengeti sunset scene, Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, 2016.

Imgur

Sunset over Monteverde, Costa Rica, way back in 2013.

That Serengeti shot would have gotten one of my votes.

mmm

Thanks.

And I only realized today that the OP said one photo per post, so sorry about the three photo post.

The other pictures I considered for this month’s competition:

Another cat picture, taken the same day as the one I picked.

And one a little closer to home, a sea otter in Morro Bay, California.
