In one of the James Herriot “All Creatures Great and Small” novels, the author observes that cats are connoisseurs of comfort. I would add that any picture containing a comfortable cat is automatically soothing.
I took this one many years ago on the Nile River near Murchison Falls. I may have posted it in another thread at one time.
How close were you to this monster? Hippos are dangerous.

We were on a smallish tour boat. Hippos hate boats and will try to capsize them, but this boat was too large for that to happen. He was pretty close to us and unhappy with our presence. I was shooting with a Nikon N70 and a 28-210 zoom, but it happened so fast that I didn’t notice what the setting was. I got two shots off before I ran out of film.

So I’ve been away from the board for a week with family visiting, and while they were here we took a trip up to Lake Tahoe and stayed at this place, which I picked largely because I love midcentury architecture and vintage neon (as evident from my last post in this thread from two years ago). And I love photographing it, so I brought my camera and tripod with me.
This is one of my favorites. Matanuska Glacier in Alaska.
