Busy weekend, between Tribes, Super MNC, Napoleonic Wars for warband, and… Diablo 3 open beta.
Since the Diablo 3 beta is temporary, we’ll probably be playing a lot of that this weekend. Contact me if you want to try to get in games.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 upcoming free weekend. I definitely don’t recommend buying the game at the price they’ll always charge for it, but I do get the itch to do COD style run and gun retardation every once in a while, so I play the free weekends.
Anyway if you’re interested, we can get some SDMB games going. Go to this link and click preload now so that you’re ready to go on Friday night.
I know a ton of dopers will be getting Diablo 3, but since it’s not really steam related (although we can still use the steam groups/friends list to organize stuff), I created a seperate thread for it.
Just a heads up - you can preorder CS:GO for the next 10 hours and get a discount and a TF2 item which you can sell for probably half the cost of the game back. If you’re going to get it, you might as well preorder it. I’m sure we’ll get some SDMB play in.
I’ve been playing the beta CS:GO for a few days now and it’s pretty fun, very much in the same vein as the earlier versions.
Now that it’s being released today I need more people to come on and play!
For another 24 hours or so, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is on sale for $5. It has an interesting multiplayer component that I’m going to try to get organized SDMB games for. The fundamental mechanics were stolen from The Ship - you play with 7 other people, and each person is assigned one target to hunt and kill, which also means that someone is trying to hunt and kill you. You need to locate your target and kill them while being stealthy and trying to figure out who’s after you.
It looks like it plays out significantly differently due to the differences in game environments and mechanics. There are crowds to hide in, stealth mechanics, parkour, special character abilities, etc. There are a lot more game modes too.
Here’s a trailer explaining the basics and random gameplay with commentary.
Anyway, it’s just 5 bucks and a bunch of us have it, I’ll probably be organizing some games this weekend, so if you want to give it a guy, buy it now (on sale through Thursday/tomorrow at 4pm PST). 88 meta rating so it’s probably pretty decent.
I have it but have not played it (I am kind of surprised I have any games on Steam that I have not got around to but this is one of them).
Anyway, I am down for this. Downloading it now.
Doubtless I will suck badly though so keep that in mind before picking teams. ![]()
We played for a couple of hours tonight and let me tell ya, nothing matches the grace and beauty of a 300 pound blacksmith sailing through the air and bashing someone’s brains out on the landing with a giant warhammer.
We’ve switched from ventrilo to mumble for ovice chat for SDMB gaming sessions. It has a bunch of advantages - better voice quality, volume normalization for other people, and a better system for voice activation using signal to noise ratio rather than absolute amplitude.
Find the download link to the latest version here, set it up, and then add our server. I’m going to put a slash in the middle of the name to fool any bots that go looking for server addresses, so remove the slash. I’m also hiding the password. It’s 1920s style _______, fill in the blanks.
Server: mbl7.game/speak.com
port 10060
Password d*******s
It’ll probably ask you if it’s okay that there’s no verificaton on the security certificate or something like that. Just hit okay.
Didn’t I tell you a long time ago to use Mumble?
Now I can crash your parties!
Anyone else keep getting free copies of DOTA 2 to give away? I have three now.
Hello all.
I’ve had Steam for a couple years.
Natural Selection 2 is currently the game I and a lot of other SDMBers are playing the hell out of right now. We even rented a server. Check it out.
I was campaigning for Mumble back when we were playing Battlefield 3. No one wanted to change from Vent.
So I did what any other rational person would do. I proceeded to assassinate and bribe several key members of the SDMB Steam community, until Mumble became an option.
I win.
Good work sir. I tip my hat to your superior persuasion techniques.
I’m getting tons of DOTA2 to give away too. I gave it the old college try a few months ago, and I hated it: so much of what the player base considers to be features, I thought were archaic glitches from the original game deliberately reproduced in the new game for no good reason (e.g., clicking to cancel a spell animation after an invisible length of time just sufficient to cause the spell to go off. Seriously, this is a feature?)
If anyone wants a copy, lemme know.
New mumble server, may be temporary if I can’t clear up some issues. Silverbolt.blue/fangsolutions.com 32768 - remove the slash.
Just a heads up - about 15 of us have been playing a lot of planetside 2. It’s a free to play online massive multiplayer sci fi shooter game with hundreds of infantry, vehicles, and aircraft all in the same world. Playing for free is very viable, but today specifically all sony online games are having a 3x sale, 3 times the in-game money you’d normally get for real money, so if you’re interested at all - try it today, see if you’d like it, and throw some money at them. The in game cash you can get today is the most you’ll ever be able to get. But in any case, just try it with us. We’ll be playing all weekend, hop on mumble with us.
Just thought I’d pop in and see if anyone else has been playing Orcs Must Die 2 lately, and wants to team up for some co-op orc-mangling. Post or PM me if you’re interested.
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare has a free weekend on Steam from now till Sunday at 1pm. It’s got medieval melee combat like mount & blade, should be interesting to try. I’m going to try to organize some SDMB games, so add me on steam if you haven’t, and tell me if you need help getting on our mumble server.
Tutorial videos: basic, advanced
You may need to relog onto steam for it to show up, then just download it from your game list like any other game.
Does anyone else experience insanely slow download speeds lately?
I have a very decent broadband connection, but I’m lucky if I can pull 300kvs when downloading something from Steam.
