Hi guys. I’ve seen these threads before but hadn’t decided to post until now.
Turns out that my recent fast food kick (never eat it, but every 6 months or a year I’ll eat a lot of it in a short period of time, usually because I’m too lazy to go grocery shopping) not only wasted a lot of money, but helped me gain 10 pounds.
I am now officially 225, 5’8. At least I carry it well, but that’s little consolation.
So I’m going to start running again. I was out with some friends a few weeks ago, heading back to my place, and we were one bike short. So after 15 minutes of the bike riders riding incredibly slow to accomodate the walker, I gave him my bike and told them to ride at a normal speed. And I ran. It felt so good, I haven’t run in 6 months or more, and I was suprised that I could do it as long as I did (in tight jeans too!).
So run I must. And bike rides, lots of bike rides. Most of my friends have bikes, so it won’t be hard to find a partner.
I won’t be doing much “dieting.” When I go grocery shopping, I do’t buy junk food. I really enjoy fruits and vegetables and healthy foods, so as long as I don’t eat out a lot I do all right. My one weakness is soda, but next time I go grocery shopping I’m going to buy some Splenda and just drink sweet tea.
That’s my plan. I’m going to aim for a loss of 2-2.5 pounds a week, which I know is a bit on the high side, but I want to lose about 10 pounds a month.
Dave and I went on a Date last night. Dinner, drinks, and a little monkey business. I ate dessert! And drank THREE drinks (highly unusual for me) and yet I’m sitting right around where I’ve been for the last couple of weeks. I despair of ever losing these last few pounds. I feel like I need to drink a supertanker of water this morning.
Everyone must be outside doing summery things and not visiting the Dope as much. The last post to this thread was four days ago. Time to resurrect it with the news that I weighed in at 159.8 this morning. Woohoo! It’s coming off a lot slower than it used to but it’s still coming off! And I made it to the 150’s in time for my birthday on Monday. One more pound by then would be sweet!
I seriously just can’t deal with the heat, so I’ve been trying to hit the gym or do my exercise videos inside. Finally got my bike up here, so I’m going to change the rear tube (it’s rotted from heat and disuse-- I went away for four years) and start biking around, as I love my bicycle.
I find it’s difficult to find anything that fits right and is even remotely flattering at thrift stores,* so I resort to Target for most of my shopping needs. It works and lasts long enough, and I’m sure that I can do a little tailoring on my own with my sewing machine.
[sub]*Size 16 is really unpopular in just about every part of Florida that I’ve been in a thrift store. I’m also tall, so most of their selections means that I get to wear highwater pants out of the petite section.[/sub]
I’ve gained 1 lb. since the last time I posted, but visually, I’m losing little bits here and there. I lost some under-chin fluff, a wee bit of back fat, upper arm waddle, and, despite the fact that there was little to no fat on my feet, I managed to lose some fat there too. I’m also losing the belly slowly, which means I end up having two or three days of “flat tire” belly time, followed by a day where it doesn’t feel like I’m carrying a fold of flab with more flab underneath it. I’m actually starting to feel like I’m making progress, and I’m trying to get more exercise in to help speed things up to a routine of 60-120 minutes of exercise 4-5 times per week. I did cardio and lifted weights for about an hour and a half today, so I’m one little step further to my goals.
I have a feeling that the exercise will become a form of stress relief when I start classes next week. I’m excited but a little nervous about being a new grad student.
Had my weigh-in this morning. Today’s result: 225.6.
I found some of the Fiber One bars, supervenusfreak. The store only had the Peanut Butter and Oats flavor, but it’s actually damn good. I will have to keep looking for the Chocolate Chip. Do they have any other flavors? I’d kill for strawberry or raspberry flavor.
And I gave in to temptation and bought the Starter Pack today. Gonna see what kind of fun I can have with the Meals 101 booklet sometime soon.
I’ll check those out, jayjay. Right now my bar selection consist of:
-The aforementioned Peanut Butter and Oats Fiber One bars, damn good.
-Special K Bars in strawberry flavor, which I like a lot and are only 90 calories/2 points, but there’s not a lot of fiber in them. (They’re from before I started the WW.)
-Smart Start Healthy Heart bars in Strawberry Vanilla flavor, which are okay-tasting, but not as good as the Special K. It’s got more vitamins and less sodium than either of the others, plus it’s got potassium. It’s not as good tastewise as the others, though.
Well, I came back from my 2 week vacation on Monday and I have gained 4 pounds I felt like I was trying to be good by walking a lot rather than taxi/bus, and going on a couple hikes, but I guess it wasn’t enough. I did eat out a lot, which I don’t usually do.
I did go back to the gym last night. The usually not-to-bad 30 minutes on the elliptical was a bit painful, but I felt good about getting back on the horse.
Oh, and now I really want to try the Fiber One bars - I am a chocaholic, but trying to choose healthier for my waistline and my teeth. I wonder if they sell them in Canada?
Don’t worry, Meyer 6, those 4 pounds aren’t bad for a two week vacation. Maybe since you did a lot of walking and some hiking, some of that is muscle now, instead of fat. And maybe some of it is just water weight. Well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Hope you had a great time, by the way.
My local Safeway has been having Odwalla bars on sale 10 for $10 bucks most of this summer, so I tried some and got hooked. Usually I’ll eat one for my evening meal if I was too indulgent with my lunch. They don’t have as much fiber as Fiber One bars but they have a bunch of other good stuff. Plus, many of their ingredients are organic and they don’t use high fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated coconut oil like Fiber One. And they come in a bunch of different flavors. I’ve really been enjoying the Cranberry C Monster lately but the Banana Nut and Carrot Cake are very good too. They have chocolate versions but I’m not much of a chocoholic so haven’t tried them yet. They are higher in calories though–around 220 a bar–but I feel that they’re good, healthy calories, at least.
I’ve tried 90 calorie Rice Krispie style bars, such at the Special K brand mentioned by Kat but, while very tasty, I felt gypped when I realized that what I was eating was mainly air. That’s why there’s so few calories in them. They didn’t stave off the hunger pangs as well as a more solid bar either, IMHO.
Clif Bars are mainly organic too. TikkiSis is a big fan of those and I find them quite nummy too.
Agh. I don’t know how it happened, but I seem to have gained about 8 pounds in the last month of the summer. I am very not happy - I was maintaining just fine until right at the end. I’m now at my highest weight ever - 186.5 on my home scale
I haven’t rejoined WW yet (although I suspect I will), but I’m starting to watch what I’m eating again. My mp3 player just died, but as soon as I get a new one, I’ll be exercising again too. Sigh.
Thanks, I guess it could be a lot worse. Also, (and TMI) I started my period last night, so I’m hoping some of that weight might retreat after my period is over, as sometimes happens for me. It’s a shot in the dark, but maybe.
And I did have a great time with family and some old friends, so maybe the 4 pounds was worth it!
I lost another 2.5 lbs this past week, bringing my total loss to 99 lbs. Jayjay and I will be on vacation next weekend, and I have found a WW meeting close to where we will be staying. I plan on going next Friday, just to see how I did. :0).
Woohoo, Supervenusfreak! I’m so proud of you! Happy vacation to you and Jayjay. Where are you going? What a good idea checking for Weight Watchers meetings to keep you honest while there.
Helen’s Eidolon, hang in there. You may just be experiencing some sort of hormonal fluctuation that caused you to gain that weight. I’m betting it’ll come off pretty quickly.
