SDMB Weight Loss Club, Number Four

The Chinese got rearranged for today, so that’s me back to induction for a week or so. Still, my appetite must be adjusting. Time was at an all-you-can-eat buffet I’d have been back for at least three refills, today, just the one. Hate to think how much sugar was in it though, even leaving out the rice.

It’s taking a while to unstick from 245-ish, but I’ll just have to be patient; I need to shift about 70lb.

I’ve been stuck at about 188 for awhile, but at least I’m not gaining. I really should do a week on Induction and get back in ketosis.

My husband and I are going to a formal-ish event tonight, and I wanted to wear an outfit I bought last summer (size 18) and I took it to be altered a few days ago. I knew the pants needed to be taken in, and the top (a sleeveless vest-like top) needed some taking in as well. I was amazed at how much they needed taking in! It’s like a whole new outfit!

I have nothing new to report as far as progress. Heck, I got to the Y only once this week, but I did walk to a couple of meetings at work (the place is like a cross between a college campus and an industrial park).

I went to the storage unit today which is outside the gate from work, and I managed to remember to watch my odometer. Three and a half miles one way from front door of my apartment to my office, and 2.2 miles round trip for a walking route I want to use.

Now, for a little more light at 6:30 AM and some warmth, and I’ll have a decent daily bicycle commute, if I don’t get run over by the idiots headed to the Air Force base…

Well, I stopped exercising and wasn’t eating the right things for a couple of weeks, and the weight kept going up and down. I’m back in ketosis now, and it feels much better. The scale is moving down again, 203 this morning!

I discovered that eating “low carb” bars is a huge no no for me, I metabolise sugar alcohols just like regular sugar. I might as well have been eating candy. It makes me a bit sad beause those sugar free turtles were soooo good. I’d rather be thin than eat those though.

The weight is coming off slowly but surely… I seem to be averaging about 3-4 pounds a month, which is a healthy rate. Definitely not as fast as I’d like to lose, but I do have my days when I want to eat ‘normal’.

I do have to say that I am healthier than I ever have been before. My blood pressure and heart rate is down, I have less G.I. problems, and you can now set a clock to my period (sorry for the TMI guys).

I’m in the process with Atkins where I’m slowly adding in the carbs again, by eating more vegetables and the occasional fruits and legumes. It’s a bit scary, because I find it difficult to just easily add something without going overboard. Then again, I like that I’m able to have things like grapefruit, strawberries, and black beans… it’s like I deserve them now.

I’ve been staying as active as I possibly can. Working part-time at the gym has definitely helped, because I end up working out when it’s slow… and even though I’m exercising at a slightly slower pace than when I’m working out off-the-clock, all that movement for 2-3 hours in a row has to count for something. I’m still dropping inches like nothing else.

Good thing to happen lately: I found that I can now shop at Old Navy. Their largest size (XXL/18) fits me now. Hooray for cheap in-between clothes! I was originally a 22/24 at Lane Bryant–I can fit into their 14/16 now. It’s all so very exciting to see changes, although it’s going really slowly. But that’s ok. It’s better to be changing for the better than not at all.

Hello everyone! I’ve been doing Atkins since January 12th. There have been days when I really needed to commiserate, since my husband isn’t doing Atkins and he is torturing me with his microwave popcorn. So it’s really nice to find this thread.

My stats are: 5’3", 42 y.o. female, 235.5/222/115

I am a complete carb addict, and I almost wept with joy after my first week on Atkins. I swear I had sweets/bread/pasta/rice on my mind 24/7. And now? None. Princess time excepted, of course. Then I make and freeze the Atkins Chocolate Truffles. I budget for 2 of those lovely nuggets of nirvana. Obviously, having to gnaw on frozen chocolate makes me eat them much slooooooower.

What I need to do now is get off my slowly shrinking butt. I’m considering Curves, since there’s one 4 blocks from my house.

Congratulations to all of you.

Welcome, Imperial Shag! Please lean on us. That’s why we’re here!

For Curves, you’ll get a huge two thumbs up from me. I started last March at Curves, and have lost 42.5" since then. It’s a terrific springboard for someone who isn’t all that active, which I was at the time. I was 256 lbs at 5’8", a size 24. Now I’m ~193, and a size 14. Javamaven has also done fabulously well, as you can see above; we also have some other huge ‘losers’ here.

I myself do weight watchers. Atkins would not be practical for me, as I need my fruits and gotta have those breakfast english muffins.

Good luck, and please stick around.

I’m kind of tip-toeing in here…it’s okay to be maintenance level and still check in, right? A lot of people who read and post to this thread are making fantastic progress, and I’d like to keep hanging around to cheer everyone on - it’s great to see!

I’m at 148 now, which is two pounds lower than my goal weight (215/148/150, for the record). I’ve found myself in the very odd position of having to be sure I’m eating enough (more important, enough of the right things) not to drop any lower. I actually enjoy the exercise I’ve been doing for the past year, so I’m still working out 5-6 days and doing weights once or twice a week just to maintain the muscle mass I have.

It’s kind of weird in a very good way to not be concerned about losing weight anymore. This is the first time in fifteen years I haven’t been overweight, and it’s going to take a while to adjust.

InternetLegend, this thread is open to anyone. We’d probably even welcome those @%*&!$~ers that need to gain weight. The advice would probably be to do everything opposite of what we’re doing

Well, I’m starting off the week on a good note. I’ve lost 2.5 pounds in the last 2 days; 16 pounds total in 50 days. Stats now 235.5/219.5/115. Must have been all the heavy house cleaning this weekend.

Ginger: Curves sounds about right for me, then. Wow - 42.5". In my dreams.

It’s honestly not as hard as everyone makes it out to be, if you have willpower. Really. As I mentioned before ( I don’t know which Weight Loss thread it was, and I’m not going to tax the hamsters looking for it), I watched my mother struggle with her weight my whole life, and thought I was doomed to failure before I even began - so I never started until last March.

As it turns out, I do have willpower. I just don’t eat what I shouldn’t. I drink a lot of water, too - even if you’re not following a specific diet plan, you should be drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day, plus a glass for each caffeinated drink you have. Really. If I don’t drink water, I do not lose, period.

Try to avoid prepared foods as much as you can. They’re usually pretty high in sodium, which will cause you to retain sodium. If you look up a bit, you’ll find that I gained a POUND due to too much sodium the night before my weigh-in.

I’ve been doing this a long time, as have some of the others in this and the three preceeding threads. If you want help, we’re here. Don’t be afraid to bend my ear.

No loss since I last weighed 2 weeks ago today, but then I’ve been cheating, and got to the Y only once for a walking session last week.

Walked 3 on the beach Sunday with Sadie the VunderDog, 2 miles yesterday at the Y, and swam 1/2 mile today. And I’ll quit cheating…

I have an MD checkup Friday, so it’ll be interesting to see what he and his scales say.

We should get on with life, no matter what it deals us. To that end, I post today’s weigh-in: 192.

I went to Curves today, to cancel my membership (it renews this month), and to get weighed & measured for the last time. Here are the results, since beginning March 17/03:

Bust: -6.5"
Waist: -6"
Abdomen: -10.5"
Hips: -11"
Thighs: -10"
Arms: -3" (each, at bicep)
Weight: -53 lbs
Body Fat %: -7%
Total inches lost: 47"

That is awesome Ginger

If I may ask, why did you decide to cancel your membership at Curves? I’ve never been there myself, but everyone seems to rave about it.

I’ve been there for a year, and am losing only an inch at a time. I’ve been going to the nearby Bally’s for around a month now, and I’m finding that I’m getting better results from the workouts I do there - plus, they’ve got a pool, and Dave and I can both join for around the same amount I pay to Curves for just me.

That may be true for you, but I drank only a negligible amount of pure water while losing weight last year. I was drinking primarily caffeinated beverages - either commercial diet sodas, or coffee or cold tea sweetened with Splenda.

I’d love to see some substantiation of this rule. Certainly according to Snopes it’s a UL when we’re talking about general diet, as opposed to specifically trying to lose weight.

A major yes to this one. While there are some good prepared foods (I’ve had good luck in incorporating those Asian microwave dinners from TJ’s - stuff like chicken biryani - into my diet), mostly they hide a lot of bad stuff, even a lot of the ones that bill themselves as diet foods. Sodium, trans fats, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, and (with the non-diet stuff especially) other sugars and fats that contribute to the taste, but that you wouldn’t think to put in if you were cooking a similar dish, so you assume it’s not there.

Wow, I haven’t posted to this thread in awhile!
Well as of weigh in Thursday I was down 31.2lbs. That puts me at 191.8lbs. It took forever to break the 30lbs mark (or at least it seemed too!) and I am so happy now that I did. I posted before and during pictures at the ww lj community and the responses I got were so motivating. Makes me wanna get back on track (I really slacked off this week) and start losing big!

Keep on truckin’ you losers!

…And doesn’t it just figure, the day after weigh-in, I’m at 190. Two whole pounds gone overnight.

I am in a great mood, the scales said 199 this morning! So, including my time at WW I’ve lost a total of 22lbs so far.

Had a great time cleaning out my closet, I have a big pile of clothes I haven’t worn in two years that fit now, and another big pile to take to Goodwill. No backsliding for me! I also got out some of my pre-kids clothes to serve as inspiration. They all look so tiny, but I’ll get there in the end.

Kudos to everyone else on their losses!
