Season Long NFC North Discussion Thread

Aaaaand – the Bears lost!

Nice special teams. Holy hell. They got away with that penalty on the punt, but they gave up a long return to set up the Falcons’ go-ahead TD, and then turned around and got pinned at the 10 on the ensuing kickoff.

I’m getting a little tired of the Vikings D letting down in the 4th quarter and letting beaten teams get back in the game. How many scares is it going to take for them to nail down the coffin lid?

Thank God we have Favre getting those Vikings leads back over and over again. The Purple dodged a bullet today. I’ll take the 6-0 start, but they need to find a way to tighten up that 4th quarter defense.

Onion did it.

Holy crap how did I not know this thread existed?
I will definitely participate in the near future!

Classic Lovie Smith loss. Tons of mental errors and carelessness. I’m completely fed up with this guy.

I’ve been drinking and watching the day’s games with friends so I won’t delve to deep into things but this Bears loss was infuriating. We outplayed that fucking team and we gave that game away. Be it interceptions, fumbles, dropped INTs, stupid penalties, poor special teams play and awful play calling the mistakes killed us. Just a sloppy game that we still should have won, it won’t look good for Cutler in the stat sheet and he made a couple bad throws but this loss isn’t on him. It’s not on the defense, it’s not even on Forte. It’s squarely on the coaching staff.

Amongst all of that one thing is abundantly clear, Omiyale is Swahili for Useless Piece Of Shit. We have got to do something about Omiyale, time to get Beekman back in the mix or test out Shaffer or Louis in that slot. Admit failure, this guy is a bust.

Also, God Damn you Hauschka…make that fucking kick.

I’d comment, but you admit you’d been drinking, so I’ll let that one slide. You can blame the coaching staff all you want, they are certainly part of the problem, but when your QB throws 2 interceptions, your RB fumbles in the red zone, and the starting RB can’t even average 1.5 ypc, you’re not going to win. The Bears didn’t “outplay” anyone last night.

Matt Ryan had 2 picks (one in the red zone) as well and Cutler had a better rating. Michael Turner had all of 30 yards to Forte’s 23 for a whopping 2.3 average, and frankly Turner should always put up much better numbers than Forte. I stand by the opinion that we outplayed them, we just made many more mental mistakes. Obviously when you factor in the mental mistakes we didn’t, but that wasn’t the context of the statement.

It was an incredibly sloppy game on our part, and that sloppiness is on the coaches. We just came out of a Bye week, we shouldn’t be making stupid mental errors, blowing coverages, being out of position on the line at the snap, taking mindless penalties and putting the ball on the ground over and over again.

Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?

No kidding. There’s a difference between a ‘prevent’ defense and full out capitulation that they haven’t seemed to grasp yet.

Chilly didn’t help any either. He was obviously playing for a field goal at the end, despite a hot quarterback/running back/receiver. Everybody and their brother knew the Ravens were going to just roll down the field when they got the ball back. Staying aggressive rather than settling for the field goal might have netted some more points AND used up the clock more AND gave the defense a chance to free their balls from the vise the Ravens offense had stuck them in.

Not that we expect more than mediocre from Chilly…

Dear God our nightmare may possibly be over at long last. Nothing certain yet, but please let this be the truth. It won’t solve all of our issues, but it’ll at least give us a fighting chance.

QFT. You’re kicking from a plastic carpet inside a giant balloon, it’s not like you’re on a real football field. Just make that fucking kick.

He was a rookie in the Thunderdome. He pissed down his leg. The Purple is kind of starting to run away with this division now, huh?

Meh. The North has only produced two playoff teams once since realignment, and that was the Vikes at 8-8.

We haven’t been posting the standings in this thread, so just for the hell of it (and because I like the way it oooks right now) here are the standings for the NFC North after 6 weeks, along with the divisional records.

Minnesota Vikings _____6-0___2-0___189-121
Green Bay Packers_____3-2___2-1___130-93
Chicago Bears_________3-2___1-1___119-99
Detroit Lions__________1-5___0-3____103-188

What’s the last number? Points for and against?

Yes.

They are categories the Lions lead in. They are hard to find. But the Lion schedule gets easier after the bye and they will make their move to the top of the division. Watch out lucky Minnesota , here we come.
A QB on Medicare will haunt the Vikes in the end.

gonzomax, get real. The Vikes would be 4 - 2 or maybe even 3 - 3 without Favre at the helm. If he continues to play the way he always SHOULD have played, instead of the way he frequently DID play, the Vikes will be as successful as the Packers were in years Favre wasn’t a complete idiot (e.g.: 2007).

As for the Lionettes, well…

He’s mostly fucking with you.

Considering the health status of the Lions QB at the moment, this riff is extremely ironic. Can QBs use wheelchairs in the NFL?
