They’ve still got Drew Stanton, and it’s not like either Culpepper or Stafford was going to set the world on fire.
What’s your point? All three are nursing leg injuries and it’s unclear who’ll be healthy enough to start in 2 weeks.
The point is that the Lions’ quarterback situation is not exactly going to make a big difference vis-a-vis their win/loss record, but the Vikings’ certainly is.
The Vikings should just enjoy Favre while the weather is nice, once the cold hits he’ll fold like he has the past 3 years or so. Plus kharmas a bitch…
Also since It’s not gonna happen…really Green Bay you can’t sacrifice anything for a halfway decent O-lineman??
Well, it better get cold fast.
The Vikings’ remaining road games:
10/25 @ Pittsburgh
11/1 @ Green Bay
12/6 @ Arizona (brrrrrr!)
12/20 @ Carolina
12/28 @ Chicago (OK - it’ll definitely be cold for this one)
It stands to reason that the level of competition on the road is going to affect Favre’s play more than the weather.
By the way, the month+ at home in November is a tremendous gift from the scheduling committee.
Would you call what’s going on in Detroit a “situation”? That denotes that there were plans that went awry.
The plan was for Stafford to do his best Matt Ryan impression all year long. That plan went awry.
Well, Stafford and Culpepper have both played pretty well, all things considered. Stafford has thrown fewer picks per attempt than Sanchez, and Culpepper has moved the ball despite not even having Calvin Johnson.
Oh, I completely disagree. The Lions with Stafford starting and healthy looked like a team that was very likely to win 4 or 5 games, with injuries to all their QBs they’ll be lucky to ever get 1 more. The Vikings were a 10 win team last season and even if Favre implodes they probably will be again. I’d say that the Lions QB situation is going to have a much bigger impact.
You won’t hear me defending Favre and I suspect I’ll be predicting the eventual Favre meltdown every other week to come in my picks thread.
Still, I have no idea what your comment was intended to signify. Stanton, like Stafford and Culpepper, is nursing a knee injury and had surgery 6 weeks ago. Considering all 3 of your QBs will probably sporting questionable tags coming out of the bye it’s more than ironic that you’d be calling out the Vikings QB.
The Vikes are riding a wave of luck. They will drop ,but they have a big lead because of it. The pass Favre made with 2 seconds left was luck as well as skill. Luck runs out. …sometimes a year later, but it runs out.
Stafford is one thing. Megatron is another.
NFL National Football League News, Video, Rumors, Scores, Stats, Standings - Yahoo Sports Staffords QB rating is abysmal. But many of the guys ahead of him played Detroit and had career best ratings that day. To be fair ,the stat people should delete those games.
I don’t think those numbers are abysmal at all considering the circumstances. He’s a rookie on a talent poor team and he’s been sacked 10 times in just 3.5 games. His numbers are better than any other rookies or first time starters and his YPA and YPG are middle of the pack and he was steadily improving game by game. Certainly not great, but considering the state of quarterbacking on many of the teams in this league this season he was downright promising.
I did not see it that way. I was thinking that he got highly rated by the Lions because in practice he was throwing against the Lions defense .
Who’s talking about what happened in practice? Look at what he did in the Washington and Chicago games. Those are very good defenses that he handled quite well in real action after just 2 previous games of live action.
You can probably guess I am unconvinced on Stafford. He makes rookie throws ,which is acceptable if you think he is just another rook. If you think he is special and worth overpaying, then the bar is higher. I think he needs a little more time before they hand him the reins.
The Bears just signed Jay Cutler to a contract extension which locks him up through 2013 and could get him an extra $30M. Combined with the $20M due to him for the remainder of his current deal he’s basically locked up for for 5 years at $50M. This looks like a serious bargain to me considering the money that Philip Rivers, Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger were paid in the last couple years. Eli is getting $107 for 7 years, Rivers got $93M over 6 years. I’m calling Cutler a real bargain, Matt Stafford got $72M over six years so Cutler is significantly cheaper than him even.
The Bears have been pissing me off of late but this looks like a home run to me.
Comparing the deal to Stafford’s makes sense. Comparing the deal to Manning and Roethlisberger… not so much.
For someone that’s the franchise, it’s not clearly apparent that Stafford was the correct pick. He’s done well, or at least by Lions standards, but there’s nothing sublime that’s come out of him yet. He’s young, and there’s time, but I’m tired of fucking having shitty quarterbacks and losing teams.
4 1/2 games might be a bit early to give up on him, especially considering that Swiss cheese O-line.
On the good side: it seems like every time I flip over to the Lions gamecenter on NFL.com, Cliff Avril just sacked somebody. Is it just me?
