Season Long NFC North Discussion Thread

It’s just you.

He’s got at least half a sack in each of the last three games- not bad for a part time starter.

I’m trying real hard to get excited over that. I’ve got nothing.

You don’t have to be excited, but you can at least have a “hey, we drafted someone who might be on the roster in three years” feeling.

It’s too early.

Why not? You can compare a player without implying that they are equal. Cutler’s value almost certainly falls somewhere between Manning and Big Ben and Stafford and Sanchez. Considering he’s signed for less than all 4, substantially less than Manning, Roethlisberger and Rivers is quite a thing.

According to this article,

12 Browns players have missed practice with the flu this week. The Packers are playing the Browns this weekend. The Vikings play the Packers the following weekend and then have a bye week.

Do your thing, virus!!!

Just an update so far in regards to the North’s running back ranking discussion from earlier:

Adrian Peterson: 121 for 624, 5.2avg, 7TDs, NFL Rank #1
Kevin Smith: 109 for 348, 3.2avg, 3TDs, NFL Rank #17
Ryan Grant: 91 for 347, 3.8avg, 2TDs, NFL Rank #18
Matt Forte: 86 for 294, 3.4avg, 1TD, NFL Rank #24

At this point, it’s safe to say that AD is clearly the cream of the crop, head and shoulders above the rest of the division’s backs. In fact, the rest of the divisions running backs have been down right mediocre.

Updating my prediction that Favre would make a star out of TE Visanthe Shiancoe, he has 5 TDs in 6 games. That’s more than any other TE, and tied with LARRY FITZGERALD for the lead amongst TEs and WRs.

Packers signed Ahmed Green. Does he have juice left, or is this signing in order for him to retire as a Packer, and maybe get the 46 yards he needs for the franchise rushing record?

Anyone who watched him play in Green Bay remember if he was a good blocker?

No doubt, AP is a beast and I am none too happy about having him in our division for the next 10 years.

But that could all change now that the Pack has signed…AHMAN GREEN!!! Whoo-hoo!!

Damn it, where did I get Ahmed from?

Yeah, but I’d put the blame on the division’s offensive lines rather than the backs themselves. Remember, all three quarterbacks not named Favre are seeing a lot of butt-on-turf time.

They put their #3 RB, Deshawn Wynn, on IR with a knee injury. Since their #2 RB, Brandon Jackson, is still healing from an injured ankle which cost him 4 games so far. Green is signed simply because of those injuries, not because he has any gas left in his tank.

I’m surprised the Packers haven’t activated Kregg Lumpkin, who looked pretty good in preseason, off the practice squad. They also lost out on Tyrell Sutton, who was signed by the Panthers. Both those guys looked good in training camp and preseason. To me Ahman Green is washed up.

He’s quite good. Or was. He’s good at picking up the blitz, as well as in pass protection. I’m guessing that’s the main reason he’s back in Green Bay.

Yup, The Pack, Bears and Lions are probably in a horse race for the title of worst offensive lines in football. All three almost certainly belong in the bottom 8, and that’s probably generous depending on how much credit you give the developing rookies and second year guys in Buffalo, KC and St. Louis and the pile of backups in Seattle.

I suspect they left Kregg Lumpkin on the practice squad just because his name is so unbearably silly.

…on passing plays using pass-blocking techniques.

Yeah, yeah, but a good offensive line is a good offensive line. If you’re good at run blocking, you’ll be at least okay in pass protection, and vice versa.

That’s good. I don’t really care if he can run or not if he stops Rodgers from taking so many sacks.

I don’t think you can exclude Favre from the list. He’s 8th in the league in butt-on-turf time. Detroit quarterbacks en masse would surpass that but Cutler, and by extension Forte, have enjoyed better line performance than Favre and Pederson.
