Bears are up 16 - 0 at the Half and they should be really pissed about it. They were in the Redzone all day long and kept coming up short and settling for FGs. They’ve had 2 big turnovers and didn’t bury the dagger. Cleveland is winning the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball and Cutler took a cheap shot in the mouth and bit his tongue pretty badly as a result. We’ll see if this becomes a problem after the half.
Forte still looks sluggish coming out of the exchange and isn’t making any yards after contact. He finally got back into the endzone with a handful of decent runs to close out the half so that help my fantasy team, but it’s not good enough. The changes on the offensive line haven’t made much difference, though at least Beekman hasn’t allowed any jailbreaks that I saw.
Olsen got his ankle banged and had to come out, not sure if it’s minor or if he’ll be back in the 3rd quarter. Hester has looked really good so far but the entire passing game hasn’t been getting many opportunities because of all the pressure.
Ugh. Another nearly blown victory by the Vikings. I have a hangover from last night and didn’t need to sit through what happened after we went up 24-3.
LOL @ the packers and the Favre-haters!!!
WOOOHOOOOO!!! 7-1 and the division is in our hands!!! Bye week next week followed by 3 straight home games. We don’t play on the road again until December!
Folks talk about the offesnive line, but really today it was about special teams (kickoff coverage esp.), defensive pressure on Favre (none) and penalties (esp. Jolly’s idiocy). I think the Vikings and Packers are similar in talent in many ways, but the Vikings are the more mature team.
Good win for the Vikes, and now I am going to go throw up in my mouth.
I’m in general agreement (and, as a Packer fan, it saddens me to say so), though I think that the Vikings lines (on both sides of the ball) are more talented. Harvin’s returns killed the Packers, as did, once again, STUPID PENALTIES. Jolly’s penalty was a killer, as was the holding call on Barbre that wiped out a first-down reception late in the game. When the Packers actually got some pressure on Favre in the second half, they were able to at least force him into incompletions, but they didn’t do it consistently enough, or when it really mattered.
Buck’s doing the World Series tonight, so he wasn’t at the Packer / Viking game…Thom Brennaman was announcing the game, along with Buck’s usual partner, Troy Aikman.
Speaking of class, the Packer fans didn’t exactly show a ton of it when they booed the guy who gave them the best 16 years of their lives. Do the Cheeseheads remember what things were like in that franchise before Favre got there? They were down there with the Lions. How many winning seasons did they have between when Lombardi left and when Favre became the starter? It was about a 25 year dry spell, wasn’t it? Remember Don Majkowski? Remember Anthony Dilweg? Remember drafting Tony Mandarich ahead of both Barry Sanders and Deion Sanders? Talk about ingratitude. Favre gave that team a complete resurgance.
Speaking of Deion Sanders, here’s a nice clip of him “translating” Favre’s post game comments today. Good stuff.
Oh, come on, dude. Every year they put up with the same bullshit about whether or not Favre would retire, and he milked it like crazy.
I hated- hated- the Packers until last offseason, when Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy showed that they had the balls to stand up to that whiny drama queen. Now they’re my second-favorite NFC team.
Favre gave them the best years of their lives? Sure. But they gave Favre a job when he was a drug-and-drink addled bust, and put up with his shit for far longer than anyone should have to.
They put up with what “shit?” Winning season after winning season? The best statistical QB career in history? Two Superbowl appearances, including a ring? A consecutive start streak that makes Cal Ripken look like a pansy? That team wasn’t shit before Favre got there. He picked them up and carried them for 16 years. How can those fans not appreciate Hall of fame greatness? I thought they respected the game in that place. I guess not.
ETA Mike McCarthy’s going to be selling cars in a couple of years.
Whining season after whining season, perhaps. Sure, Favre won a ton of games, but 5 years of holding the team hostage understandably wore out Packer fans’ patience. He tried to make himself bigger than the game, and nobody gets away with that.
The consecutive start streak is nice, and all, but when it comes down to it, that’s all about luck. It’s not like Favre managed to avoid an ACL tear or broken finger by sheer force of will.
“Best statistical career” is incredibly subjective, and Favre only holds the records which are based on longevity. You can’t tell me with anything resembling a straight face that if you were building a team there aren’t 5 guys you’d take before Favre.
