Okeydokey. Unless someone else pops up in the next hour or two demanding we do trivia, I guess it’s another week off. See you all next time.
Here’s an early bump for y’all. Is all the apartment moving done? Is is not done, but at a stage at which a break would be welcome? Will there be an SDMB team at trivia this evening?
As usual, I’m free for the evening, so I will be there if anyone is.
I’m running Payroll tonight, so I may or may not be available. Won’t know until later.
We’re in. Not sure what time we’ll get there, but we’ll be there. E. Thorp can’t make it as he is in a meeting all day and will have to work late as a result.
So you guys do this every week, then? We are out in Woodinville…perhaps we can cross the bridge one night…Sounds fun.
I’m probably in…
Pretty well every week. As you can tell from reading over the thread, sometimes not many people can make it, sometimes hordes of people can. It’s kind of amusing in its own little way.
More are always welcome, however.
Hey Seattle Folks…any chance you could help out a Quizmaster Doper on the other side of the country?
A buddy of mine owns a little corner bar here in Pittsburgh and he and I share responsibility for putting together Thursday night trivia league. It sounds a lot like what they do at the place you play except we only have about 40 people (it’s a little bar, so that’s a pretty good number).
So how can you help me? It gets pretty tough coming up with 70 questions/week for an 8 week season. If you could tell me what categories they used (if they even use categories) or any suggestions, I’d be much obliged.
Maybe you could consider it a chance to recap the evening? Maybe you could also tell me to get a life!! Either way, I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask.
Nice to see everyone again last night, even if it meant leaving our new second bedroom looking like the warehouse in the final scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
And lookee what I found while searching Yahoo! Groups for something else entirely: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/TeamElvis/
I’m going to join and peruse their archives…their secrets will soon be ours!
Also, CapnPitt – 70 questions!? The pub we play at does 40, and that takes them a good 2 hours or more. Also, they don’t categorize, so I can’t help on that front. I will be happy to post some sample questions when I have a bit longer to spend. (I’d recommend double-checking the accuracy of any and all questions, by the way – last night, for example, the correct answer for “when will Halley’s comet next appear” was 2161, which is, well, 100 years off.)
When my buddy runs the show we usually have a few fact checking errors too. But I don’t think we’ve been off by a hundred years on anything!
We do 7 categories of 10 each and you get to throw away the category you think you did the worst in (this becomes your tiebreaker). 7th category is always a picture category (which is a separate handout). I guess we move pretty quickly because we start at 7 Thursday nights and are usually done by at least 9:30 (including tallying the scores). Our team sizes really vary though because my buddy (the owner) doesn’t care who wins as long as everybody runs up a nice big food and booze bill. One team actually has around 16 people! But the average size is probably around 6.
All our categories aren’t “straightforward” trivia, we do stuff like TriBond (what do the three have in common) and PowerLink (which is like Before and After on Wheel of Fortune). Those make for a good change of pace.
All right, I’ll stop this massively long hijack now, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Just wanted to start this week’s ball rolling by saying I can’t make it. I volunteered to work the pledge drive. Why do I keep doing that?
If people are going, I’ll be there. Probably 7:00-ish, maybe earlier.
I would just like to mention that members of Team Elvis study lists of phobias. They do homework. And they brag about their winning percentage.
I for one would rather brag about my social life.
I’m available, if others are coming. If the weather keeps up like this, we may even be able to get back outside pretty soon. Woot.
I’ll probably be there at 8ish, if we are in fact doing so.
We’re in. Not sure what time we’ll get there, but we’ll be there.
So, since it seems totally unreasonable for us to begin studying, I think we need to somehow influence the quizzers away from the categories that can be studied easily-- phobias, car registrations, stuff like that. Then, our superior but unstudied grasp of general knowledge will be able to overcome their book-larnin’.
Sounds great. Except that trivia night is my social life. Bummer.
Sorry, I’ll have to miss tonight (given my unimpressive attendance rates, I’m not sure if anyone considers these je-regrettes of mine newsworthy).
I agree with Saltire, it’s time to work the refs. Life is too short to spend memorizing international car-registration codes. This from the man who downloaded a list of codes and carried it around in his jacket pocket for a week, including to one trivia contest, before realizing that life was too short et cetera…
I’m also in - around 8… or so…
Anybody in tonight? Last I heard from the Boss Lady was a yes. Who else?
I’ll be there. I believe inkysplotchy will be there as well.
I’m all for our decided team name this week, but I think Cindy will actually laugh at it, so we should either use it twice (fine) or save it for next week (also fine).
