You know, I’ve always thought that what set the SDMB apart from other boards was the presence of logic, spelling, grammar and knowledge in reasonable quantities. The rational, somewhat level-headed debates, the ability to answer almost any arcane question and the presence of Cecil Adams have always seemed to be a distinction between this place and most of the Net.
Now I see that it’s because we aren’t a bunch of meanie heads. I’m so said that we have lost the only thing that distinguishes us from the other message boards.

I’m new here, so I’ll give somewhat of an outsider’s view. Esprix, you seem like a good person. It has to be unimaginably hard in this society to be gay. You come here for support, and when you receive criticism for having multiple partners, it’s easy to be defensive. Now, you’re defensive before you even post.
I read some of the ‘Having lots of sex’ thread. Frankly, I wasn’t that interested, but the fallout keeps dusting the BBQ Pit. This new thread seems to have the purpose of gaining allies against those who were critical against your actions – having lots of sex with multiple partners.
Suggestion: If you can’t take the criticism, don’t keep bringing it up. You do what you want to do, but realize that other people are going to have opinions about it (and some of them just can’t help but share them).

Geeze, Esprix, being sick sucks! If you’re stuffed, hot showers and hot tea with Amaretto work best. Get lots of sleep and whine a lot to make people feel sorry for you-which is what I always do when I’m sick. I figure-hey, if I have to be miserable, so should everyone else!

Seriously, Esprix, I think you’re selling most of us short. I stopped reading the sex thread because it wasn’t all that interesting to me, but the responses you were getting there definitely don’t mean that people won’t be sympathetic about a cold!
Oh, come now. There’re scant few that would actually be that assholic, and I doubt they would be able to find their way to MPSIMS if they had an Acme Mundanity Detector shoved up their nose.
It saddens me to think that you would withhold your wit, humor, intelligence, and kindness (and all the juicy details, too) from us* because of a few fuckheads who are an ignorant as they come. Keep posting, please, and don’t worry about what some people might think. They don’t matter in the long run.
*“Us” refers to the militant group of posters who actively read what Esprix posts out of respect for, and in awe of, his extremely amusing and engaging personality and flair. Myself included.
Esprix, darling, on one hand I certainly see your point, and I empathize with your fear. On the other hand, isn’t saying what we want without worrying about what other people may think one of the pillars of the gay rights movement?

I don’t know about you, but it taught me that my supposition about there being ignorant fuckwads on the SDMB was true. But give them time and maybe they’ll begin to absorb facts instead of sticking to old lies.
Anyone who came on and said “yeah, Esprix, you’re sick because you caught an STD from having too much sex” would get flamed so ferociously and quickly we’d need a vacuum cleaner to clean things up afterwards.
Esprix, I do disagree with you on a few things and you seem to have taken some things I have said wrong lately, but even if you got me as pissed off as I imagine I have pissed you off, I wouldn’t think to joke that you might actually have an STD, even if you were complaining about symptoms directly related to one. I don’t know who you were expecting that kind of comment from, but if it was me you are wrong.

Besides, don’t people know that the real issue isn’t that gay sex is dangerous, but that it’s evil? These people are concerned with the danger to your flesh, while they ignore the danger to your immortal soul. Yours is the sort of attitude that makes it necessary to picket funerals to spread the Word of God.
