Seen Any Good Movies Lately? A Cinematic MMP

Whew - I’m late to this party again… I was looking at pictures of corals and sea anemones on line. I’ve decided my first ceramics project will be a hunk o’coral reef. I’ve printed off several photos to use for my sketch.

OK, to the OP. I haven’t been to a theater since, I think, the last of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I HATE going to the movies. The floors are sticky, the seats are uncomfortable, the other patrons are usually obnoxious, and if you have to go pee, you can’t pause it. I’d rather watch a video at home in my robe on my recliner.

The last one I watched was, unfortunately, Mamma Mia. I wanted to like it because I love ABBA’s music, but I couldn’t find anything about it that I liked. Pierce B was absolutely the worst possible choice for his role. I thought the story line was lame, and I couldn’t make myself care about any of the characters. I love Meryl Streep, but I was embarrassed for her. I’m just glad I didn’t buy the DVD.

I do have to share a special talent **FCD **has (no, not TMI - haul yourselves out of the gutter! :stuck_out_tongue: ) Any time Dirty Dancing is on any channel, he has the most amazing ability to turn in on within a minute of “Nobody puts Baby in the corner.” I swear, I’ve seen the last number so many times, I could do both parts! But it’s hilarious - he’ll be channel surfing, and he’ll hit on that last sequence every time, whether he knew the movie was on or not.

Oh, who am I kidding, it’s always on!!

Tomorrow I will finally move to my new cube. I was supposed to move today, but the guy vacating it wasn’t cleared out till I was putting on my jacket to leave. So tomorrow, I’ll go in, finish packing my stuff, unhook my computers, and haul it all around the corner, along with my chair. Kendra can bring her own chair - I’m taking mine! No idea when the computer geeks will get my up and running again, but we are absolutely NOT permitted to do any computer connections at all. I foresee a lot of thumb twiddling.

Daughter was home sick today - up all night with teh sick that I had a couple of months ago. She puked just before we got home, and so far, she’s managed to hold down a little ginger ale. She had a slight fever, and I told her to keep drinking - I suspect she’s somewhat dehydrated. She’s decided to call in sick for tomorrow, too. Poor dear.

**FCD **took his car in for an oil change and had them check why his coolant was running low. Well, 2 radiator hoses and a sensor are bad. Taking care of all of that will run around $800. And he also needs tires - they were quoted at $1300. Stoopit sports car. (He drives a Crossfire. The back tires are different from the front ones.) Anyway, he’s going to check around for tires, but chances are it’s gonna be pricey, no matter what.

Yeah, it’s definitely Monday.

Welcome to all the first time Mumpers! I get the chocolate love offerings!

I forgot to mention I saw a dead raccoon in the road on my way home today. Since I have a freezer full of meat, I left it for somebody else to get. I’m not greedy!

DH picked up some pre-viewed DVDs at Blockbuster yesterday. Naturally, he bought a copy of Mama Mia. Also picked up Iron Man - I’m much happier with that as when we saw Iron Man last summer, it was at a drive-in. I joked “Oh good! Now I can see it in color!” Seriously - the image and sound quality at the drive-in was lousy. Tiny little screen and nearly mono sound, with frequent interruptions from the staff about not blocking fire lanes, no running, etc.

We also rented Horton Hears a Who and watched that last night. Not bad, but it could have been a bit shorter.

Coincidentally, we were culling out tired old VHS tapes yesterday, and DH said we needed to get Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows and The Trouble With Angels on DVD. Think we’re down to four VHS tapes in the house now - all one-off or rare Christmas programs. I should probably put the four tapes and the VHS deck with the Christmas decorations.

Hi Brynda! Of course you can stop in. Don’t worry about keeping caught up. Glad to hear Rick is doing better.

Hope your Dad’s recovery goes quickly, Kalhoun. And keep after that doctor.

What’s with parents being ill lately? Two of my co-workers’ parents became seriously ill last week.

swampy: ick ick ick.

Now I’m watching *Wordplay *with the commentary on. Couldn’t find it yesterday because the link was embedded in the crossword puzzle. :smack: And I think one of the reasons I like the movie so much is that the people who made it were so enthusiastic about the topic. It comes out in the movie even without the commentary. But the commentary is really good because they’re so excited to tell you about all the background. And they’re all such nice people! Geeks too. Yay!

Dinner was a grilled cheese sandwich and 1/2 a grapefruit. And some ginger snaps for dessert.

Off to get something else done…

Hugs to all.

That’s the one. I remember watching it sitting on my father’s lap so I must have been very young and that’s the only scene I remember. I think that I remember airplanes flying around her too but I might be mixing it up with King Kong. I got to see the giant moth and some huge insect before my mom figured out that he was letting me watch horror movies on her girls’ night out and that was the end of that.

The absolute worst movie that I’ve seen lately is “I’m Not There”. I didn’t think that it was possible for me to hate anything associated with Dylan but I could barely stay awake through it. I was tempted to turn it off but I kept thinking that it must be about to get better. It didn’t.

I got my power bill for last month. $120!!!

I have turned down the heat a bit. Unfortunately, I think my car’s block heater is the biggest part of the reason for the bill (it’s the only real difference since the one before that), and there’s no way I’m not plugging my car in when it gets cold. As in tonight’s predicted -7F. Brrrrr!

MamaTigs, I’m sure, can give a nice lecture on staying on top of doctors (not that way, you pervs!), what with having a daughter with an unheard-of condition that took several years to finally officially diagnose. And she’s really, really, really good at arguing with insurance companies.

I can never read then post fast enough, or often enough to keep up with this place. So, I pop in, wave, or wiggle my butt or something, laugh/cry or jump for joy then duck back out.

Later in the week, I look and see it’s up to 6 pages, and no way I’m reading all that, so I get all "eh, I’ll look later when I have a minute.

Which is kind of an inside joke, because that’s the minute I never get. But this week, and hopefully going forth, I will just pop in, and in the true spirit of the MMP, spew random comments, probably reading back no further than the last few hours posts.

Random Comments: I made jambalaya for dinner tonight, and this weekend we watched National Treasure 2 which to me looked exactly like the first, only insert City of Gold for whatever the magical city of treasure was in the first one. Disappointing.

Ok, off with me now…

so I hope you don’t mind if I crash your party.

All I want to do is take a long, hot bath.

But I can’t, because I’m running a fever of 102. :frowning:

I’m freezing and shivering. And everything aches.

And my boss made me go in to work today because he doesn’t know how to write a check. :smack: (I was only there 2 hours, but still!)

And I have a funeral I’m supposed to go to tomorrow, which there’s no way I can go to now, which makes me feel really awful.

At least my wonderful husband just brought home some chickie soup for me.

Swampy, you’re a mensch! Stand up guy, that’s you–always looking out for the other guy… urp

Really, Karyn? I thought that was an amazing movie–just riveting. Granted, it helps that I’m a big old Dylan geek and I recognized most of the tropes from his music that showed up all through the movie but I do admit it’s one of those movies that is best watched without trying too hard to “make it all make sense.” It’s more of a tone poem than a linearly plotted movie.

Grandboy is all sick and staying home today, poor thing–102[sup]o[/sup] fever, phlegm, some puking, slept all weekend. He must be feeling some better, though, since he’s been texting me to help him with his homework. Daughter tells me he doesn’t bother using a lookup of any kind to find out what a word means, he just asks me…

Good one, Your Alliteriveness!

Hey, all you n00bz–when you get done with the Goat & Squid and have dropped your chocolate off with FCM for “safekeeping,” feel free to wash off in the hot tub. Don’t worry, it’s a self cleaning model…

ETA: Shayna, that’s what you get for frenching twelve year old boys, missy! snerk Get better now, y’hear?

I thought that the music was great too, and I thought that Cate Blanchett did an amazing job. The young kid at the beginning was wonderful. I guess I’m not a big fan of that style and it reminded me too much of other things like Warhol and listening to Ginsberg read his own work that others love but don’t hold my attention. I’ll just keep listening to his music : )

Hey, he was 13!

Thanks, I’m trying. I hate having a fever. Now that the chills have passed, I’m sweating like a pig.

At least the chills have passed. Get better! Feel healthy!

Checks pants label. Yup. Eleven or twelve. Fourteen’s too big, unless it’s made by one of those retarded “We think all women weigh less than fifty pounds” clothing manufacturers.
I weighed myself today, and according to our unreliable scale, I weigh six pounds less than I did before I got pregnant. I attribute it to nursing and toddler-chasing.

Bedtime. Night, everyone.

HI. It’s been a long time since I stopped in, but I’m feeling a little bit chatty ATM, so I thought I’d cruise through and bug y’all.

I haven’t watched any interesting movies lately, but I’ve just started working my way through Little Rascals: The Complete Collection from Netflix (I’m halfway through Disc 2). I considered skipping ahead to get the episode with The Boy Who Says “Re-marrrrrk-able” (which is my favorite one) but thought I’d miss out on something if I did. So far, I’ve seen the one where Wheezer tries to return his baby brother, the camping trip one with the man in the gorilla suit, and the ones with Miss Crabapple (and others, but those are some other favorites I remember seeing on TV when I was a kid). Wheezer is so cute, and Stymie is so cute, and I love Mary’s “shocked expression”.

Also, I got anointed yesterday, so now I am The Anointed One (my mother confirmed that!) and got chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast as tribute. Feel free to send additional offerings.

Synecdoche, NY
Nothing compares.

I will happily trade. Our current utility bill on the “balanced payment” plan is $283 per month. By the time we’ve paid off last summer’s air conditioning, it will be time for more air conditioning. :frowning:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. It’s hump day for me!

snowbunny if’n I got a hunnert and twenty dollar power bill I’d pat myself on the back for bein’ so thrifty. Then again, I run such ‘lectricity eatin’ things as a pool and hot tub.

All you sickos get better soon. That’s an order!

Ok, off in search of more caffiene and some brekkies. Also, I must purtify!

Later Y’all!

I’m up and caffeinating as well. Snowing in progress here … we’ll get 2-4 inches today into this evening, then it will change over to freezing rain and finally all rain sometime on Wednesday. I’m heading in today, but may leave early, depending on how the snow fall looks, and probably/definitely won’t be going in tomorrow.

Stay safe & warm!

I have decided I hate Scottish lunches-at-the-desk in the winter. Those soups smell like armpit. Please don’t tell my Scottish coworkers I said that.

Back to the wonderful world of horribly-designed databases from the department of redundant redundancy department with some repetibility. There’s structures like this (I don’t recommend reading it if you’re allergic to headaches):

table A, which is actually used, has several useless columns, one of them column AA. Column AA has to be filled in using a value from table B, which contains columns AA and BB; column BB (meaningless except for needing to fill it in table B, which you need in order to fill table A) comes from table C, which contains only column BB and… wait for this… column AA; yep, it’s identical to table B, only with the columns in the opposite order. I’ve asked about cleansing those columns and tables: Heboss said “go ahead and tell thisperson to do it,” Sheboss looked horrified and said noway. So far a letter to thisperson has been sent. If I have to fill in those redundant repeating tables, I’ll just put in “SCOTLAND” in every useless piece of data. Not because Scotland is useless (any place with men in kilts is by definition not useless), but just to mark “we filled this in cos we hadta.”

Note to self: Never make a Scottish soup. Ugh.

Movies?

All I can say to the OP is…

Auntie Mame rocks!!!

Have you ever heard the broadway musical soundtrack version of Mame with Angela Lansbury? It’s totally awesome.

I can’t type very well this morning so I’m going to quit while I’m ahead.

Blurf.

FWIW, the last movie I watched was The Outlaw Josey Wales. Doesn’t quite fitr the mold of the OP, does it?
