I thought you retired, or is this a Godfather III situation?
Happy Birthday, Nona!!!
Wifey and TheGirlChild have gone to the pool. I’m waiting for Walgreens to let me know that they have filled my prescriptions. So far they’ve got one of the four ready.
I may go inside to pick up and see if they have any TP. Like I said earlier, we have about 3 weeks worth, but I suspect this is gonna go on longer than that.
Wifey just came home and said the pool is closing tomorrow until the end of the month, if not longer. There was one case of Corona in the county yesterday. If it starts getting bad around here we may pack up the pups and head over the hill to the Maupin Mansion.
Y’all stay safe out there.
No fancy coding on mobile, but happy trip around the sun, Nona! (I love your mumper name, btw. I had a great aunt Winona/“Nona,” and she was always the best company. She didn’t condescend to kids, and always included us in the jokes, and I love being reminded of her.)
Social distancing happening here. The local schools are closed until the end of the month - university and primary. So the Littles are underfoot, the big girl is working many hours (grocery store plus big box home improvement store, which is surprisingly busy,) and no idea when The Boy will work again (student dining hall plus a moderately successful college town funk band. But I think the university is shifting staff to other jobs as possible. Probably scrubbing the entire campus. I hope.)
My cousin and brother and I have spent the last couple of weeks getting my 84yo childless widowed aunt in and out of the hospital and stroke rehab, and now we are letting cuz take the point position on in-person visits. Aunt is in a great facility, and cuz lives closest, has medical power of attorney, and is already habituated to extreme hand scrubbing and such. (Her adult son is on dialysis, kidney transplant list.) Safer this way. I go see about aunt’s house, and ferry mail and clean pajamas to cuz. Bro sees to the outside bits - yards, mostly.
I was helping some last week with my other aunt, who is in cardiac care, to give her daughter some relief, but the horspital has kicked me out now. Only immediate family now allowed. So my duties there have been reduced to calling aunt’s 90yo mom every day to keep virtual company, update her on gossip, and try to keep her worry at bay.
And the elderly uncle is in memory care with dementia. I’m not allowed to visit right now. He won’t remember anyway, but I don’t like it. Trying to keep Ma reassured about that situation is a job, though.
Nobody warned me about this part of getting old.
But we’re all healthy. Got plenty of TP and food for ourselves and our critters. Went to Auntie’s house today to check on stuff*, went to the bank drive-through, bought some milk, came home. Littlest Miss grabbed my hand as I came inside, so we went straight to the bathroom and sang Happy birthday a couple of times. Second-smallest girl is spending a couple of days at my parents’, helping my dad with picking up the yards and whatever.
Chicken and rice in some form for dinner. Sides to be decided, but I probably need to use the salad stuff in the crisper, and the bag of baby carrots. The dogs are joyously barking at the neighbors’ lawn dudes right now.
Happy BD, Nona! May all your turnips be happy ones!
I’ve found that if you do a one-inch dice on turnips, most folks think “Oh, potatoes!” and simply eat them. Besides, if you are the one cooking, YOU get to call the shots!
We’ve essentially been housebound since Mr VOW’s heart attack on 1-17. He’s doing very well, thanks. But COTU#1 and COTU#2 are home on a very extended Spring Break, and I expect that to get very old, very fast.
Plenty of coffee and TP, so we is fine.
~VOW
(COTU#1 and COTU#2 are designations for grandkids. “COTU” means “Center of the Universe.”)
Howdy Y’all! We finished spiffin’ da cave, had N.O.L., I went and got my script, and nappage has been achieved. All in all not a bad day. The a/c is on cause we got hawt whilst cleanin’. As good a reason as any I suppose.
I bought a new axe. I was going to buy an axe handle to replace the one I broke yesterday, but the handles were $33 and a new axe (same brand - Collins - but with a composite handle) was $38. [NB: Cheaper online, but I bought it locally.) I’ll probably buy a new handle some other time.
I’m soooo tempted to go to the gym, as the shutdown isn’t until tomorrow night. Then I talk myself out of it. Then I think there aren’t many cases in the county. Then I think, but we don’t know how many there are because they’re not testing. My mental hamster is on its little wheel and won’t stop.
I haven’t done much today aside from handling emails, PM’s and texts from worried friends and family. Gee, why do they think I would do anything risky, like going to the gym?
downstairs is playing piano (poorly) on his keyboard–good motivation to get my headphones on and try to work out here.
Happy Birthday, Nona! I hope wonderful presents turnip for you!
flyboy, all this talk of axes has me picturing Jack Nicholson and “Heeeeeere’s Johnny!”
swampy, how do you and OYKW split cave-spiffin’ duties? Do you switch off, or do you each specialize?
Moooom, the fun begins! My kids were getting out of the crib at that age. I just lowered the rail until she got a tad older, but a toddler bed is a bedder idea.
OK, time for half-assed weight training and a long walk.
I got another census ‘invitation’.
This one threatened me with having to fill out a paper one if I didn’t reply.
I suppose census invites are making like the corona virus and multiplying.
After my son went out online to do the first one, I threw the invitation away, so I have no idea if the numbers on this one match the numbers on the last one.
Should I call somebody, fill it out again, or say screw it?
I had shrimp in a parmesan cheese sauce for dinner. I left out the spinach, but put in the tomatoes. I think it would have been better without the tomatoes. I added in veggie noodles, I think they disintegrated.
Nice and heavy, high fat and low carb. I’ll make the sauce again.
I didn’t hear about the gov here shutting down everything.
Guess I’ll just stay home and irk all day, I need the money anyway.
Mind if I join you, at least for a little bit? I was once an MMPer, looooooong ago. I couldn’t keep up with the pace of it and eventually drifted away. But I’ve been sick (not contagious!), so… I’ve got time and am looking for a distraction.
The lucky thing is that I can work from home, which I have been most of this past week (called off one day and didn’t work). The less lucky thing is that I can’t COMPLETELY work from home. I’m just about out of resources, so I’m going to have to find a way to go in for part of the day tomorrow. I’m working on a strategy. Talking to the boss and figuring out how to make it work.
When I took the axe to the register I said, 'Is there a waiting period on this? ‘Cause I’m really mad at this guy now!’ The woman seemed not to know what to make of that. I told her, ‘That was a joke.’
swampy. do y’all do drive thru communion?
Happy birthday nona!
I hope you feel better soon sari. It sounds like you may have some interesting meals ahead.
mooooooom, when I was at Aldi Friday, regular aigs and milk were decimated. Organic and cage free organic? Plenty to be had (those are the ones I usually buy because I like the taste).
Welcome back to the MMP dot (I’m thinking that is the obvious nickname). I remember you from when you were our doper in middle school.
I hope you stay around for a while so we can see how you’ve grown up.
I’m still at irk for the time being . My department had a meeting today to discuss our Covid-19 strategy. Two of my department are already working from home, although one will have to go to Louisville briefly to make sure shipments get up there for an alternate distribution plan in case we have to close for a case in the plant. Operations is going to 20 hour work weeks for a while (four hours a day) so that they can leave an empty work station between people. The company is keeping them at full pay though. That will be a good thing for those with kids at home. The one guy in the department who will be working from home completely has school aged children. The rest of us are mostly in the at risk group (old and / or have health issues). Our Philippines, China, Malaysia and Peru operations are shut down.
Tonight, I’ll be viewing a virtual gig that a friend is livestreaming. All of his income sources have been affected: Uber/Lyft driver, grant writer for the Nashville Shakespeare Festival and musician in three bands. The virtual gigs (with tipping through Venmo, ApplePay or GooglePay) and his girlfriend’s income (she works from home) are what they will be living on for the duration. This is hitting the entertainment and hospitality industry in Nashville hard.
Y’all be safe an hunker down.
Dorothy, welcome back, stick around as long as you like.
flyboy, be happy a cop wasn’t behind you in line…those folks tend to have no sense of humor…
Sari, why a second? I’d be suspicious and double-check the website.
Peaches, hope things go well for the oldsters; at 67 I’'m the old one now.
moon unit, congrats on the new feline additions.
Baker, not a hater, but I will think unkind thoughts at your (at the moment) employers and positive waves at you for getting a new job.
boo fae, that sounds like quite a trip–I hope you get to take it sometime. I planned to go out to the West Coast here in June, but I’m holding off booking for the time being.
Nettie, Butters, hope work is a little less irksome as the week goes on.
As for me? Nappage, one short shopping trip (to buy a level at Wal-Mart so I can install a shelf), didn’t eat at the usual stops, but carried out, in deference to the virus alert. Did finish one of the three books I’m reading (will post something in the review thread for the month) but otherwise a quiet day.
Oh, Happy Birthday Nona!!
Pshaw! I’m 72 going on 112. ![]()
I’m coming to you from my ancient Acer laptop right now, which wants a restart, so I’ll see y’all later.
**sari **- I got a second one, too, and it had the same ID. It was dated 4 days after the first one. So chalk it up to gummint efficiency!
Only 4 of us showed up for ASL, and we almost had to have class in the hallway. We won’t be having the Weds class after all, and it’s supposed to pick up again in May. We shall see.
**FCD **talked to the surgical coordinator and all they could tell him was he’s still scheduled, and if anything changes, they’ll call. So who knows what may happen. Guess we’ll know when we know.
Daughter and SIL took the rail off Roxy’s bed, figuring it was safer than having her climb out of the bed. So, how long before she wakes in the middle of the night and tries to get into the other bedrooms?? Ah, toddlerhood…
Thank you all for the birthday wishes! They were greatly appreciated. They made me smile. :o
Howdy Y’all! We et steak, baked N.O.T., sallit, and bizkits (I made ‘em from scratch, go me!) for sup. ‘Twas not men’s night over to the church house but still good. Oh and we had beer. Tomorrow mornin’ EYP, another Vestry member, and moi are meetin’ to discuss Worship Ministry stuff. I received my assignment of people to call as a member of the Vestry to check in on 'em, find out needs, listen to concerns, and all that there stuff. The idea is to call everyone on a weekly basis. Whether we meet or not as a group on a monthly basis or attempt it virtually is still up in the air.
Dot, or was it Toto, I remember you! All growed up now! Please feel free to chime in anytime. Hope whatever is ailin’ you is gettin’ better.
We got our census thing and OYKW went online and did it for us. He really likes doin’ that kind of stuff. He’s not big on social media and such but that he likes.
nellie I do the bathrooms and kitchen cause I’m picky about those. OYKW will dust and vacuum the other parts of the house. We take turns with the moppin’ of mopable (is too a word!) areas. Today was his turn. While he was still irkin’ I did it all cause I was home durin’ the day. So this is a return to the time when we both irked and shared chores. We’ll both do laundry but I do the ahrnin’ cause he’s awful with an ahrn. We share things like cookin’ and cleanin’ up afterwards. We also share the yahd irk. I like that especially cause when I did it by myself it took me over two hours. Both of us together and we’re done in an hour!
Doc wants me to see a gastroenterologist, so the gastroenterologist folks called me to book an appointment. For June. :dubious: Guess it ain’t nuttin’ I’m gonna die from anytime soon.
Dude, you are on a list now.
:dubious:
DOTS! WELCOME BACK!
: tacklehug :
Our county is now in “Shelter in Place”. Essential services only, everyone to stay at home except for food, medical, bank. I hope everyone else follows suit sooner rather than later. We need to shut this down as fast as possible.
It was 34 degrees this morning when I got up. There is snow on all of the hills and mountains around here.
When my son did this, I dropped the mattress down onto the floor. It was tall enough that he couldn’t crawl out, and the extra depth prevented him from climbing out for a while longer. Something to consider before switching to toddler bed.
Happy Birthday Nona!
MoonUnit can haz more kitten pictures? I’m glad to hear you’re doing well. Any news on coronavirus where you are?
This sounds yummy. Do you have a recipe to share?
Bumba If you have access to healthcare and groceries over the mountains, why don’t you head out before they lock everything down?
I had my latest back procedure today. Now to several days of bed rest, followed by 6 weeks of limited activity. They’re still thinking there’s a CSF leak somewhere. Fingers crossed this helps out.
Happy Monday y’all.
My hair appointment got cancelled because salons have to close for six weeks. I know: boo-hoo for me, but I’ve gotten to know and love the family that owns and works it, and this will be a hard blow for them.
On a positive note, after I did my weight work, I walked over four miles. And I found a steep hill and walked up and down that five times. Blooming trees and flowers were a happy reminder that life goes on. And I saw 5 or 6 happy pups getting walked by their people. Good for the soul.
Sunny, if you had to have a back procedure, now was a good time to do it because you won’t have to be envious of everyone else going about their lives, eating out, etc.
swampy, I’m so touched your church is calling people once a week to check on them! It brought tears to my eyes and lifted my heart at the same time.
Moooom, my son used to climb out of the crib and want to party at 2 a.m. Frazzled, I asked the pediatrician what to do. He said, “Make sure he can’t hurt himself or get into anything, and don’t worry about it.” Of course, Toddler Bly still came and woke us up. I mean, who wants to party alone? But Roxy seems like a good sleeper, and you do tucker her out!
MoonUnit, new kitten photos are just what I need right now. Pretty please?
Dots, I think your username is one of the best on the boards!
