Self-Quarantined In The MMP

Lacunae Matata, next time you are at the Aunt’s house, turn off the water heater and turn of the water. Might prevent a little nasty surprise.

well the pub’s been closed so my aunt cant socialize and shes going nuts about it so there goes my quiet/me time …hopefully you can still go to Dennys which os her other hangout … I’m calling in a few…

Aunt’s water heater is in the attic, for no good reason I can discern. I can’t turn off the well pump, due to agricultural stuff, but I’ve been trying to sync up with my brother to come help me bleed off the water heater and shut off the breaker. We’re probably beyond a freeze, but the water heater is 17 years old and aunt’s water is pretty heavy in minerals, and I’m just horribly paranoid about a tank failure. But my brother and I are both afraid of heights, so neither of us will go to the attic without someone on standby to call 911.

When the old broad gets home, brother and I will install an on-line tankless water heater. We do plumbing and electrical just fine, but not climbing and not alterations without permission.

And we haven’t found a cut-off valve inside or outside the house the house. Just one on the pump.

My aunt apparently didn’t want to spend the extra $1.83 per fixture to avoid a flood, when she built a 3000 square foot house on 150 acres.

yes dennys is still open sos aunt can go tomorrow night…snd ill be glad … i hope this only last a week or two and months like there saying

Good Mornin’ Y’al and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 80 and mostly cloudy for the day. TWPTB said mostly cloudy for yestiddy but we had a pretty N.O.S. afternoon. The big item on today’s agenda is laundry and I have a meetin’ over to the church house at ten. Who knows beyond that. Sup shall be chikin 'n rice with vegetative matter TBD.

red in answer to your question about Communion, no we don’t do drive by Communion. Communion was offered Sunday mornin’ on a limited basis and folks could “reserve” a time to come between the hours of nine and eleven. We are offerin’ the same thing tomorrow between the hours of four and six p.m. Also, there are circumstances in which Communion can be brought to a person at home, or in the hospital, nursin’ home etc. Priests, Deacons, and Lay Eucharistic Visitors (licensed by the Diocese) can do that.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!!
**

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! Strange feeling in the air today - half my office is trialling working from home so there are six of us in the office and we’ll be working remotely tomorrow. Two of my guys are picking up Uni laptops today and getting them set up so they can work off campus. Buildings are going into partial shutdown soon and teaching/assessment is all moving online.

We have a suspected case here (not in my building) in academic staff, the person concerned is in hospital and on life-support so that does not look good. That person hasn’t been on campus since 5th March so the people working in the immediate environs are worried but think they would have exhibited symptoms by now.

In other news, Boris the Clown can’t give straightforward advice or instructions and is continuing to dither as usual. We can go out but we’re advised not to, but the places we could go aren’t being told to shut so they’re unable to put in insurance claims for lost revenue due to notifiable disease. Fun times ahead…

**BooFae **- I think Boris and the Grand High Cheetoh must have come from the same mothership… But our state’s governor seems to have a good head on his shoulders and I’m OK with the measures he’s put in place. Not thrilled, but they make sense.

**nellie **- RoxStar had a “rough” first night. Daughter said she got up right away after they put her down, but she thinks that’s because she and SIL were talking in their room and Roxy heard them. She stayed put after that… till she fell out of bed in the middle of the night. Not a big fall - maybe a foot to a carpeted floor. We’ll figure out some sort of bed rail to help keep her on the mattress. And of course, this morning, she got herself up and joined me and **FCD **in the kitchen.

Today, FCD’s getting his new computer installed and networked. He’ll now have one dedicated to his engineering, and the other will be for correspondence and suchlike. The new one is supposed to be faster and more suited to the analysis he has to run. I guess we’ll see.

As for my day - I’ll wrangle Roxy between 10-2 while daughter is supposed to be monitoring her students on line. I’ve already loaded and run the dishwasher, so my kitchen is semi-tidy. I also need to figure out supper, but I’ve got some ideas. So onward into the day!

Happy Tuesday!

PS: I’m enjoying having Alexa - at the moment, I’m listening to Big Band music! Our radio reception in this county is very limited, so I don’t typically listen. It’s nice to have an option.

Even IF they spent the couch change to put the valve in, after 17 years, it might not cycle. That tank is past borrowed time, it’s into disaster waiting to occur. Installing the new heater should be fun, at least you can put it in places that make sense.

Irk sent a lengthy email that included talk to your manager about working from home.” Boy howdy, am I gonna do that! Here’s yesterday’s abbreviated story. I called the accounts payable UNhelp desk to find if an invoice has been paid. The gormless contract idiot helper said I’ve been processing invoices incorrectly for 3 years, despite said invoices getting paid. I told him I follow Purchasing guidelines, which he told me were wrong. Words were exchanged although my tone of voice remained polite and I didn’t curse. I finally hung up on him, called Purchasing AND his supervisor to verify I have been doing it correctly.

And the hospital where I work has not restricted visitors despite the physicians saying it is necessary. Yet there is talkmof closing the salad bar in the cafeteria. Yeah, that’s gonna make a difference.

Good morning troops!

Nellie, regarding the virus, schools are closed here. Not sure why. There has been only one case in my state. In Progreso they are still allowing cruise ships from USA. They come and spend the day there then head back. They provide an economic shot in the arm. And the people gotta eat. But, I worry about the consequences.

Metal Mouse, your home must be like a library. Books and books and books. I had a lot of books in my previous life. But, when I moved here, they were too heavy for my checked bags. I did bring one poetry book, and Alice in Wonderland. Since I tuned in late, I don’t know if you share the home with others. Got creatures?

Sunnie. I waited until the kittens were two weeks old and eyes open, before I touched them. And Kiko finally got to meet them. I have the cutest video of that encounter. He immediately started bathing them. He is a very proud grandpa. If Imgur accepts videos, I will add it for you folks.

Today the housekeepers comes. And the place will shine! And I want to make a walk to the super market and buy some fun stuff.

Enjoy the day folks. Hasta mañana.

This didn’t make it thru the 50x’s last night:

Now you can take the old one & grind it, put it in a box, wrap it & put a pretty bow on it. Then save it & give it to someone who’s really mad at you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome back, Wicked (unless you remember your old nickname). Since you wuz one of us, you don’t need to be initiated again. However, if you’d like to sprinkle around some chocolate & beer (or some chocolate beer) it would be most appreciated. Oh, & in case you forget from last time, just ignore flytrap…& Swampy’s gay!
Ankle decided it didn’t like yesterday so I only got out for a bit today. The good news is that bit was on a trail that I drove to. (I went out Sat - fine. I put the car in the garage Sat night - fine. I started to go out yestidy but for some reason it dinwanna start. Of course, being fronted in the garage, I couldn’t get a jump. I left it until today & it started, I drove it around for a bit, left it running (while locking it with another key) & eventually backed it into the garage this evening. That way iffn it gets another case of the donwannas I can easily have someone pull up to jump it.

For Beck dinner was pasta & meat sauce. Imma thinkin’ nothing too fancy until lockdown ceases. I went to groc on Thorsday instead of Sunday & shopped for two weeks instead of one, so yeah, more shelf-stable stuff.

Hello.

I’m all right except for a bout of extreme sadness and anxiety this morning.

I’m stuck inside for the foreseeable future. Occasionally I can get people to bring stuff to my door.

I have a medical question (non-coronavirus-related) - is there somewhere on the forum I can ask it? I have a hard time contacting my doctor and psychiatrist at the best of times, and the local hotline for medical info is swamped. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Love to you all.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Since the Governor cancelled all large gatherings, I’m just going to stay home and chug Tullamore Dew and Guinness.

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK’S DAY!!!

And apart from being Saint Patrick’s Day, it is Alex Catt’s Gotcha Day/ 5th Birthday.
Or to use her full title “Alex of House Catt, First of Her Name, the Unfed, Queen of the Apartment, Protector of the Sectional Sections and the Mother of Hairballs.”

{{{{Midget}}}}

Boofae, 5 billion years of evolution, and 100,000 of human progress to have these chuckleheads in charge in a crisis.
#GiantMeteor2020

I was thinking of starting a new thread for people to post their personal experiences and anxieties, and calling it “Journal of the Plague Year”. But this one will due, even without the clever title.

My employer went on a “work from home encouraged” mode two weeks ago. I don’t like WFH; I spend more time doing the laundry and snacking than I do working…but I was mostly a good soldier, and only went to the office twice since March 9.

But yesterday the Bay Area (which includes me) went on mandatory Shelter-in-Place status. All non-essential business are closed (“essential” includes banks, groceries, hardware stores, restaurants for delivery only). So here I am, sitting at my dining room table, on the SD instead of working.

I left the house half an hour late this morning, and still got to the orifice before eight o’clock. Traffic was very light.

I left late because I put on the corned beef for tonight.

The governor just closed all bars and nightclubs for 30 days. I guess the run on booze starts now.

Still stuck at irk. No virus yet in our area.

I was just messaging with my niece - she teaches at a boarding school, but it’s closed down till next month, so she and her family went to Ocean City, figuring it’s more deserted than the Baltimore area and probably a tad safer for them and their baby. But she told me my sister is still going out and about then coming home to our 86-y/o mother! URGE TO THROTTLE!!!

They’re both in denial. They make me crazy sometimes.

Everything closed at 00:01 this morning. Mrs. L.A. and I were going to go out for [del]margaritas[/del] Mexican food before the order took effect. The owner of the restaurant said they were already closed (except for take-out). We went to the liquor store and got a margarita kit. (The corner market decided not to sell spirits, since they didn’t want to compete with what used to be a state liquor store. Small town.) I cooked tacos dorados for dinner.

A cow-orker is coughing a bit. I think he’s going to be sent home. And he’s a Uber or Lyft driver on the side.
