Season two of The Lincoln Lawyer is not as good as season one, IMO. The two ex wives thing is annoying and there’s way too much going on with Cisco. I’ll finish it though.
I’ve started Glamorous, which is basically “Ugly Betty but everyone is gorgeous and gay”. Quite a lot of good comic lines, but thus far it’s still just light entertainment and doesn’t bear much thinking about.
Agreed. We’re only two or three episodes in and it’s a drag for the reasons you mentioned. Plus, Mickey is thus far acting uncharacteristically stupid regarding his client, throwing all warnings and common sense to the wind. He’s an impulsive guy to be sure but this just seems out of character. Perhaps he has a master plan yet to be revealed. And with apologies to the actor playing Cisco, I really can’t stand his creepy voice.
Never underestimate the power of thinking with something other than the brain. That’s all I’m going to say!
I am enjoying it, I’ve seen the first 5 episodes and now annoyed I’ve got to wait a month before they release the second 5. I do wonder if it is going to go the way of s1 in terms of the defendant’s guilt/lack thereof and how that is judged (juried?). One thing I was a bit disappointed by was after the excellent twist at the end of the first episode, relating to a certain character, they didn’t keep that running for very long.
I’m watching Witcher season 3 – enjoying it, but not enough to start a thread on it.
Even though she is wanted, a lot of folks don’t know what Ciri looks like, because there are scenes where she is in a crowd with no or flimsy disguise an no one recognizes her.
Brian
Well, c’mon - it’s not like she is particularly distinctive. I mean platinum blonds are always a dime a dozen in quasi-medieval societies . They probably just mistook her for Daenerys Targaryen.
We’re enjoying The Witcher as well, although painfully aware that next season will be without Henry Cavill.
We tried watching the eponymously name “FUBAR” with Arnie. Stay away. This is one of the worst first episodes I’ve seen in a while. We were hate-watching by 15 minutes in. The acting is terrible (and not just Schwarzenegger, but everyone). At one point I could swear an actor was reading cue cards. The plot is ridiculous. The sidekicks are the worst stereotypes, and their dialog is insipid.
Easily the worst show I’ve seen this year.
Just finished watching Then You Run. It is about four teenage girls who make unwise choices in their lifestyles and the people that they associate with. It is not a comedy. Not a comedy.
We binged all 8 episodes of Unbalanced today on Netflix. Mrs. Wheelz and I both liked it a lot.
Rob Lowe is an eccentric biotech billionaire who begins spiraling emotionally after the death of his wife, until his son (played by his son) comes back into his life.
The writing is sharp, and the whole ensemble cast is very good. It devolves into silliness a time or two, but it’s mostly charming and full of heart. If you like Rob Lowe, you’ll probably enjoy it.
Season two is currently in limbo due to the strikes. There is one plot point left unresolved, but if this is all we get it’s still worth watching.
Have finished this now. It was fine. Not spectacular, not noteworthy, but fine. It was basically “Miss Benny educates straight viewers about various elements of LGBT+ culture while preening endlessly for the camera, under the imprimatur of gay icon Kim Cattrall who doesn’t really get much of interest to do”.
Some of the obvious villains get redeemed over the course of the series which is rather nice. Also, there is a very entertaining drag lipsync scene. But on the whole, it was…fine.
Finally got to the new season of The Bear. Writing a chaotic show like that must be a special talent, and to do it while still moving the plot forward is genious.
Sorry , that’s Unstable. In case there was any confusion.
We just finished Jury Duty on Amazon Prime and loved it. It’s part scripted comedy, part improv, part reality TV. The premise is that there is a small civil trial happening and someone is filming a documentary about life on a jury, but all of that is fake, everyone (judge, jury, attorneys, witnesses, etc.) is an actor except one guy, who thinks it’s real and that he’s really on jury duty. They fill the jury with unusual characters that he has to interact with, make him the foreperson, and film his reactions. It’s kind of like a two-week, 24/7 Candid Camera. (Also on the jury is James Marsden, playing a douchey version of himself.)
They picked the exact right person to be the “hero” (as the producers call him). He’s a normal dude who just wants to do a good job, and his subdued reactions to the craziness around him are priceless. They of course have a big reveal for him at the end where they let him in on the secret.
So did we. I had no intention of watching it until it got a bunch of Emmy nominations and the teaser with the plaintiff’s best friend describing her “occupation” hooked me. Whoever vetted the “hero” for the show was an absolute genius.
We watched the final episode of “The Blacklist,” a show we enjoyed for its entire network run and came to be the last network TV show we watched. We knew Red was going to shuffle off his mortal coil at the end, but how? It turned out to be a very Red-ish way to go, and certainly novel, but once that business was done, they did nothing to follow-up on the fates of the other characters, who were still in personal and professional peril from their long association with Red. We liked them too after all these years and were disappointed there was no closure for them.
We gave up on The Great season 3 , just the same thing over and over .
We started watching Succession.
I saw that not long ago. Highly entertaining. They’re talking about doing another season of the show. I’m not sure how they could pull that off having already streamed the first season to the general public. I mean, juries everywhere are going to think they’re on candid camera now the first time anything out of the ordinary occurs.
The guy they picked really hit it out of the park. He took his juror responsibilities very seriously and did a great job convincing his fellow ‘jurors’ at the end.
I guess I’ve given up on The Boys. I watched about half of the first episode of the latest season and am no longer interested in these people. The first seasons were a lot of fun, not so much now with the “Soldier Boy” arc.
Watching season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
It’s great. Perfect? No. The logic doesn’t always shake out, but it’s really entertaining and makes you feel the way good Star Trek makes you feel. Like we all need to aspire to something greater. Like we have strength in numbers. Like our sacrifices are noble. I’m really glad to have it right now.
Pretty much the same thing.
