Agree. We only made it through two episodes before we said, “Why are we still watching this?” For some reason, it just became totally uninteresting, And we didn’t even wait to see Jensen Ackles, who I love.
We started “The Warrior”, and so far it’s great. Snappy dialog, great martial arts. Directed by Justin Lin.
There’s a great story behind this. When Bruce Lee came to Hollywood, he had a project he shopped around about a Chinese martial artist who comes to the old west. None of the studios would bite, but suddenly they released ‘Kung Fu’ starring David Carradine (a caucasian) as a Chinese martial artist in the old west. Lee felt robbed, but he couldn’t do anything about it. The studio claims they were already working on the idea, but that seems… fortuitous if true.
This show, “The Warrior” is a realization of Lee’s ideas. He is credited with the concept, and his daughter Shannon Lee is producer. The star of the show, Andrew Koji, is a legit martial artist trained in Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu at a UK Shaolin temple, as well as being competitive in Tae Kwon Do. He has apparently worked very hard to cpture Lee’s fighting style, and moves and fights just like him. It’s quite amazing.
There are three seasons so far, with season one getting 76% and two and three getting 100% on the Tomatometer.
Yeah… we were already starting to check out at the end of season 2 and then season 3’s first episode we watched and then didnt feel the need to continue. The way they dealt with Arlo just felt wrong.
Huh, I saw the 2000 film Shanghai Noon with Jackie Chan that is basically exactly that premise, but I didn’t know anything about this historical backstory of the concept! Ignorance fought.
After The Diplomat I got my wife watching The Americans. I had previously watched several seasons without her (as a show during exercise) before losing interest. Loved the first two seasons though!
Now she has us binging. Up to S3 ep7. Getting to where I had started to lose interest before …
I bailed during S4. It just wasn’t holding my interest anymore and I didn’t care what happened. It bothers me though every time I go to Netflix and see it sitting there under my “continue watching” shows.
We started the new Justified season last night. Bit of a rocky start in ep one, but smoothed out more in ep two. I really am tired of the lawman-with-rebellious-teen-daughter meme, though. Oliphant is watchable, as always, and there’s a good supporting cast.
Just finished Jack Ryan: Season 4 on Amazon. The plot was complicated with so many characters, twists and turns that it’s a challenge to keep up with it all, but it’s so well done that you enjoy the ride anyway. The torture scenes in the last episode were a but hard to take, though. We’ve enjoyed all four series and really wish they would consider doing another one.
Finished Young Sheldon season 5. They’ve gone a lot more serious this season which tbh is probably good because the “Sheldon is socially awkward” shtick has worn very thin.
Started Staged, season 3. Still immensely funny, and goes off into meta and meta-meta territory rapidly. The amusing cameos continue, plus honestly I could watch Georgia Tennant look exasperated for hours.
As previously suggested, I’ve started watching Space Battleship Yamato - having watched the 1970’s series as a child, I’m working through the 2012 series and enjoying it greatly.
Naughty Amazon Prime, getting my hopes up with a notification, making me think a new series of Invincible had just dropped. It’s just a one-off prequel episode. Think I’ll save that for when the proper s2 lands. I checked and it’s not til November.
Finished Season 1 (9 ep, 45 min each, all that exists so far) last night and overall my wife and I enjoyed it. I agree it levels off a bit and leans more into the detective work and less of the silly comedy than the first few episodes would lead you to believe, but it was worth our time. Seems open to a new season at some point and we will have our remotes ready when that happens.
Again, would recommend to those looking for some dark comedy/film noir in the vein of The Boys or Fargo Series.
I’m a big fan of Justified and Timothy/Raylan. My husband and I just watched the first two episodes (he has never seen the original). We both really liked it, but WOW there were a lot of characters and info stuffed into those two hours. It was kind of hard to follow. I’m glad they haven’t brought up a lot of the original (so far) because I’d have to explain it all to my husband.
You made the right call. It is most definitely not for everyone and an acquired taste. If the first episode wasn’t your cup of tea, the rest of the pot won’t be for you either.
It was a bit confused in the first ep, for sure. If your spouse hasn’t seen the original, he really needs to be introduced to Dewey Crowe. “Hard being a criminal, ain’t it?”
I think I enjoyed Season 2 even more than Season 1. The continuing characters become more three dimensional and even more morally ambiguous. And some of the new characters (and the actors who play them) are a lot of fun - Cristina Umaña’s Judy Moncada is the standout performance of the show, so far.
I’m about 5 episodes into Season 3 and still really digging the show.
