Thanks for the review, I’m starting season 2 now.
I’d agree with Elmer, the more you watch, the more invested you get in the characters. Absolutely worth watching all of both Narcos and Narcos Mexico. I think my ‘favourite’ character is Pacho. Both very charming and an absolute monster. ‘Favourite’ insofar as he can be, being a real life person and to put it mildy not a nice person.
Watched the first 6 episodes of Season two. Very interesting.
I told him that he has to watch the original. It’s so good. He asked me where it takes place - I told him Kentucky and you should see the characters there! Dewey & Boyd were the best! Maybe I can get him to watch it this winter when we have a lot more down time. Hopefully it stays on Prime for a while.
Today is a crazy day for new episodes of series that I watch. A new Strange New Worlds, Nancy Drew and Warrior, which were coming out weekly anyway, plus three new each for The Witcher and Harley Quinn and the first episode of a second season of Dark Winds.
Thanks for the heads up on that.
I didn’t know there were new Harley Quinns out. Yay!
Someone on here recommended 24 Hours in A&E. I watched a season on Prime. I didn’t think I would like them going into the patients’ back stories but I actually love it. I watched season 16 and now I’m going back to watch earlier seasons. I love a trauma show. I used to watch Trauma: Life in the ER when it was on and I’ve seen both seasons of Lennox Hill. If anyone knows of others, I would live to know.
We just gave up on The Practice in S4. Wife and I are both lawyers and tend to appreciate well-written character driven legal shows like Boston Legal, Good Wife, and Suits. We thought this one had promise, but through the 3d and into the 4th seasons they have been going hard into the perverse rape/murder themes.
Some time back we decided we wanted to minimaize the amount of rape, murder, and mayhem in our entertainment. This show exceeded our tolerance.
I’ve been watching Hijack on Apple TV+. It’s a seven episode series starring Idris Elba about a hijacked airliner. The gimmick is that each episode covers one hour of flight time. The last episode is available next week.
Yes, Hijack is excellent. It brings to mind the old series 24, running in real-time
but without the mountain lion. My only complaint is just as you know that Jack Bauer doesn’t die by the end of each episode, we can be sure that Idris Elba will make it safely to the end.
Has anyone attempted even an episode of Queen Cleopatra? Jada Pinkett Smith does nothing for me, but the morbid curiosity of a 19% and 3% rating on Rotten Tomatoes may drag me into it.
Can it be that bad? We might find out together this weekend.
Today adds all of season 2 of Good Omens and part of season 4 of Tacoma FD.
We’re watching and enjoying it; but I can’t figure out for the life of me why anybody in the show would listen to anything the Elba character has to say.
Also on Apple TV, we’re watching Season 2 of After Party. It’s a whodunit were each suspect’s story is done in a different cinematic style. The last episode done a la Wes Anderson was hilarious.
We just bought the complete Buffy. So we’ll e watching THAT for a while!
I got the complete Buffy box set many years ago when Amazon had it for $40 in one of their 24-hour flash sales. A bargain then and (looking at current prices) a bargain now. However, when I do a rewatch I use my ripped copies. Much more convenient having them all in one lump instead of shuffling through 39 DVDs.
Great fun. I had a thread here many years back when I watched it for the first time, long after the show completed its run. It was a captivating experience. I think that thread made it through the whole series, Angel included.
Buffy has a fond place in my heart. Around that time I was doing a lot of martial arts. One of my sparring partners kept telling me about this show he was watching. I couldn’t believe how stupid it sounded, but he insisted it was funny, scary, had great fight scenes, and hot babes! It aured on a night when my wife worked, so one week I turned it on. I can still remember the first ep I saw - Bad Eggs from S2. Was a bit scared - and immediately hooked! I remember the next day asking Big Frank, “What was the deal with the 2 cowboys with the bumps on their faces?” Watched the rest with my 3 kids aged 7-10. To this day, my wife and kids all agree that Buffy and Angel are just about the highest form of TV ever!
One of the highlights of TV watching w/ my kids. (A short list, probably including Pee Wee’s Playhouse and ST-TNG.)
Gotta adjust the ratio. These discs are making everybody look awfully wide-bodied…
It definitely wins an award for the show that most won me over. The only familiarity I had with Buffy was the dumb movie. And I knew it was a kind of teen drama in my day. Two factors which made me think I might not like it. And when I started it, I was like, “This is cute I guess.” But it really sucks you in toward the end of the first season, and then it ends up being better than any teen drama vampire show has any right to be.
Just finished season 1 of the new Netflix animated series Captain Fall. It is about a guy named Fall who is chosen as captain for a cruise ship specifically so that he can be the clueless patsy who pays the consequences for the wide array of unspeakable crimes taking place on the ship if they get caught. Violent, provocative, and reasonably hilarious.
