Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

Someone finally convinced me to watch Andor. That person swore up and down they were not a Star Wars person. Probably the only thing that could have swayed me.

So far, eh. We watched the first two episodes, it’s not at all clear what’s going on, but there is some heavy male brooding, so I dig that. I think it has potential. I was told by another fan it doesn’t get good until the third episode, so there’s a lot riding on this next one.

That series was primarily filmed in Portland, OR.

Rogue One is great. Finally see why Vader is feared. I agree something in the Star Wars Universe not dominated by Jedi was great.

I enjoyed The Force Awakens. I got that fun feeling with Star Wars again. It took two or three viewings for me to start nit picking it. The other two went downhill quickly.

I watched episode one but I don’t know. Something about it didn’t pull me into it. Devon is being a jerk. Simone doesn’t owe her sister or father anything. I don’t understand why Devon thought she did. Then for Debon to show up at Simone’s work and potentially ruin it? WTF? Nothing about any of the characters came off as redeemable or interesting to me.

We loved Grimm! Fun show! Probably stayed true to itself more than most shows.

Years ago, we gave the CW super hero shows a chance. Arrow started out strong but went too long. (And stole too many of other heroes plots.) Flash was there. I bailed on second season of Flash. I think I saw four season of Arrow. Legends of Tomorrow, I barely finished the first episode and couldn’t do more. So, when Supergirl started, I thought I would try it. It was okay for what it was. Until. Sister is a spy and goes undercover to see someone . . . and took her real purse? Or took that purse home so the bad guy knows something?? To me, that makes the sister look stupid and breaks her character. I didn’t watch anymore after that.

That takes me to Superman & Lois. I saw the pilot but took a while for me to pick it up again. I start it again and enjoy it. We aren’t doing a Smallville KotW villain. It’s going pretty well. Then I got to episode five. Sigh. Superman hears a name, Leslie Larr, and goes straight away to find they are conducting experiments and making powered heroes. I don’t know why he reacts to the name and nothing is explained. Superman sees the machine that did it and asks about it. It’s the size of an MRI. Larr and Powell have mysterious dialog and the powered one, Powell leaves, taking Superman with him. There is a five minute chase scene. Then Superman never goes back to the machine? Doesn’t check it out? Doesn’t track it down, the owner of the property, or Larr? It’s never mentioned again in the episode. WTF? If I don’t think of it because I’m into the episode and it takes a second or third watch before I catch these issues, it’s on me and I like it. When I am thinking about it as it’s happening, it doesn’t seem like good writing to me.

I think the problem as I get older isn’t that bad guys are stupid but the writers are. Superman, imo, should enter everything having xrayed everything at superspeed, constantly aware of his surroundings. He find the bad guys quickly. If something has lead, he shouldn’t walk toward it, he should super speed around it to check it out from all angles. Look at a molecular level to get an idea of what they are trying to hide from him. Instead, he comes off as no better informed than a human and doesn’t use his vast array of powers to scout and check it out

Maybe, maybe I could excuse that because Clark is not paranoid even though his enemies are out to get him. He thinks the best of people. Maybe he is too used to being powerful and not being hurt, which is when something that can hurt him does. I don’t think this shows him as able to learn! Again, it’s weak characterization.

I don’t understand the fights in the shows. He breaks through concrete in one scene and then in the next scene, the bad guy hits him into concrete and he bounces off it. They need to find a way to show what hurts Superman. Then be consistent about it.

Part of it is that I haven’t read Superman in a long time. Maybe this is Superman on Earth-777 and he’s not as fast or invulnerable in some ways. It would be nice if they say that.

I guess I’m just really disappointed. I was looking for something new to watch and this started out well.

Thanks for the discussion!

Alone is back on. Only realistic Survival show on TV, now that Survivorman is gone.

Instead of the Arctic, now they are dropped into the karoo in South Africa. They did drop them near water- but the water is really nasty. One guy out 4 days in, likely as he drank bad water -yes, they all boil it, but maybe not completely etc. Lots of game, some fish, not much edible plants.

I agree it was a fun show. I thought it ended pretty well. Apparently a spinoff was planned that never happened.

Now they are making a movie that will come out on Peacock.

Among other things, I’m enjoying Long Way Home, the fourth installment of the motorcycle journeys of BFFs Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. This adventure isn’t as hard core as earlier installments, but the main attraction for me is still there: the camaraderie between the two and their team and the interesting people they meet along the way.

Love all the Long Way series.

Have you checked out Itchy Boots ?
8th Season, decently short episodes
She’s been everywhere in the world- all on her own, no crew and does her own video and editing as she travels.
Very knowledgeable with her geologist background and appealing personality.

That is not her video but is accurate.
This is the start of her latest season

I find these so addicting but usually have to wait until they land on Hulu- where are you watching this one? The last ones I saw were the Arctic and Tasmania.

I can agree with your assessment of the CW superhero shows, but I would suggest to give Legends of Tomorrow another chance, by skipping season 1 entirely and just watch s2e1. It becomes an entirely different show that is very much fun, at least for seasons 2 and 3.

I liked all of them to start. Flash got tedious by the end. The formula became too formulaic. How many times could they defeat someone with the power of love? I mostly liked Arrow all the way through. Supergirl became awful and unwatchable by the end. Legends turned out to be the best of them. Batwoman and Black Lightning were awful from the beginning.

Supergirl was on CBS first season then moved to CW? I remember we watched the first season but didn’t follow it when it switched networks.

The History Channel. Cable. Alone is generally in cold climates, like the arctic. Alone Australia was in tasmania.

Yes that’s what happened. Which is why in the beginning it was in a separate universe with no cross over to the Arrowverse. Later there were cross-dimensional shenanigans that allowed mixing.

Ok, that explains why I don’t see it yet…cut the cable a long time ago, but glad to know another one is on its way eventually.

Wrong thread

We loved it too. My only gripe is that they didn’t call it Only Birders in the Building.

Got to Episode 4 of Andor and yes, it’s good now. Basically the series starts in Episode 3. The first two episodes were a failure of good storytelling, but it seems to have found its feet very quickly. I suspect some things from the first two episodes will come back around and be relevant, so I’d have to watch the first season before I could say how to fix it.

(I also loved Rogue One, the only Star Wars thing I could say was truly great.)

The Truth is Out There is back, and it the pro analysys have hardly any woo, and the show is not all that credulous.

History Channel

And people should start doing that- ID where the show is, please.

Looks good and I like the cast

Both leads familiar from Downton Abbey for Joanne Froggatt and Game of Thrones for John Bradley.

I liked him in GofT
