i just finished watching Star Trek Continues on Youtube and it was excellent. I especially liked how it set up the later movies. It’s a shame that one group ruined these fan made films.
I watched 4 1/2 out of 6 episodes of The Survivors. I sort of liked the first episode, but liked each successive episode less and less, until I realized I no longer cared whodunnit anymore. Few of the characters were likeable. I saw no reason to drag out this mystery for 6 hours. Even the premise of the show made little sense to me and didn’t match up with anything I’ve ever seen.
Finished Dept. Q last night. We liked it a lot. Very well acted, although the plot was occasionally hard to follow (a problem with many British series). Whoever came up with that torture method was brilliant. Really nasty bad guys and unusual good guys. Hope there is more to come.
Heh, so did I.
As did I.
Agreed, although the final episode did a fine job of tying everything together. I also am looking forward to additional seasons.
I love “anything Arnold”, so I am immensely pleased that FUBAR was given a second season by Netflix. Arnold is great at action/comedy, and the story line is very enjoyable! If you haven’t checked it out, try season 1.
We started watching On Call on Prime. It’s a police procedural of 8 episodes. We like it - lots of action. After watching the first two episodes, I noticed Dick Wolf’s name in the credits. He does Chicago Med, Fire, and PD which we are big fans of. Also Eriq La Salle directs and stars in it.
One of the problems with the story line was that there was nothing to tell you that some scenes were flashbacks. Normally, there will be something like “Three months earlier. . .”, but not in this series, which made it difficult to figure out what the hell was going on
I know Im late to this very small party (this post is the only one on the board I could find that even mentions it)…but I just finished it as well and I loved this series. I am not a sports guy at all…but this show really drew me in. Partly because it starts in my favorite location and decade - 70s Los Angeles. I was vaguely aware of some stuff just from pop culture and work life (I used to work for a club that Jerry and Jeanie Buss were members of–so I knew, yeah, eventually Jerry is going to figure out Jeanie is his heir) …so for me it was a lot of kind of knowing where things were going but still being surprised. The truncated second season makes Season 8 Game of Thrones look meandering. I was surprised to see so much dislike for it though.
That is a great point. We were first introduced to Merritt when she was in the process of losing the Finch case, which I assumed was happening simultaneously with Morck and Hardy getting shot. Only later in Ep 1 did we learn that the Finch trial had occurred four years earlier.
Recently watched Season 1 of Veep. I can’t say that I understand the popularity of this show. I found it to be barely watchable.
What I liked – the occasional one-liner which was funny or on target.
What I didn’t like – the frenetic, non-stop pacing, the way every single character despised every other character, the junior high level humor with every other line being a scatological insult. The way the central character despises not only the people who work for her, but everyone she comes in contact with. Overall, it just seemed like a never-ending train wreck.
It will be a long time before I feel any interest in watching Season 2.
You think that’s bad…I spent all of Episode 1 thinking Merritt and Morck’s boss were the same person.
Pretty good so far…Nordic crime
MacDoc’s Youtube trailer refers to The Breakthrough, based on a true story:
From the earlier comments I was considering adding Dept Q to my watchlist, but this is a dealkiller for me. I have enough problems following shows with out-of-sequence scenes when there are at least internal clues such as obvious costuming or background changes.
I haven’t seen the show to which you refer, but this technique can be used to great effect.
The big reveal at the end of season 1 of Westworld was that Ed Harris and Jimmi Simpson were playing the same character at different points in his life. I thought it was brilliant; unfortunately, the same gimmick in later seasons turned everything into a confusing mess.
The Breakthrough
It’s got some trite aspects and might make it unpalatable but it is true. Well done and like many Nordic productions is flawless in execution to English.
I have been watching Duster on HBO Max. It stars Josh Holloway, who played Sawyer on Lost. He’s a driver for criminal leader in early 1970s Arizona. His brother, who also worked for the same criminal, died a few years earlier. A young, hungry FBI agent suggests that the criminal murdered the brother and tries to get the Josh Holloway character to work with her to bring down the criminal and his organization. It’s good. I think four of eight episodes have been released so far: I think on Fridays.
The Breakthrough one of the better Nordic crime offerings. Worth chasing.
Agreed. Season 1 was amazingly good, and then it just got worse and worse until literally everyone was dead.
